enough power?
lol, a lot more than likely. It is obviously not for SQ at all. We are going for sound like it is coming from everywhere...literally. The back panel is being pulled out and a new one is being fiberglassed to hold probably 4 to 6 6.5's with some tweets, probably 1 set of comps for each door, kick panels. 1k watts was a very high estimate, more along 600 or so. I shot out 1k watts to be on the safe side when it comes to planning on power upgrades and such. Time being, we keep swithchen minds about what mids and highs to use. Right now we are lookin at Kicker, Pioneer Premium, Boston Accustics, and a few others.

enough power?
So, I will be running 2 subs off a 2k RF amp and also about another 1k watts to mids and highs. I will be doing big 3 and puttin a extra battery in the back (smaller one). Right now I have a 160 amp alt and a stock 730ampere battery. Are these going to be enough or will I probably have to upgrade them? As to why it is a double post, I have no clue and apologize. Not to sure what happened on there...said some kinda flood issue, whatever that means.

Couple Power Upgrade questions for someone
First the system: Right now I plan on doing 2 12's ported or 2 10's ported, Q's of course. 2k watts total. I will be running lots of mids and highs for "look" purposes as I am hoping to compete in shows, so I imagine around 1k watts, depending on stuff. I have a 160 amp alt and the stock battery is a 730 ampere battery. I already plan on doing big 3. I will probably throw in an extra battery as well. Will I need a bigger alt or will a 160 amp alt work? I know it brings a lot of other factors in. My amps are more than likely gonna be RF amps cause I can get a little deal on them. Any other suggestions or ideas to ensure I have adequate power would be great. Thanks.

Bit by the SQ bug
whew, good luck, to much work for me to try and get it set up perfectly.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
I have actually heard that sub and could not stand it. Wasn't to impressed with it.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
yeah, i am lookin for more musical. He was too, but I think he jumped in to quickly and got those subs cause of the way they looked. I listen more to death metal and heavy metal, so things like BTLs and such are of no use really to me. I will def. check out the subs you listed, right now my num.1 choice is FI Q's, but I am open to learning and lookin at other subs.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
so all he is gonna be good for is SPL, lol, figures. I want a more musical subwoofer. Glad you steered me clear.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
I thought that was a joke for a second till I googled them. Really never heard of that one, new one for my book, lol.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
Such as, sorry to ask and not being an azz, but I am newer to subs and tryin to find an extremely good sub to compete with him.

JL 12W7...how is this sub
So, a friend of mine just got two JL 12W7's...sexy lookin subs. Before he kills my system I am curious, how do these subs stand up. Are they very good subs....SPL, SQ, etc. Tryin to find out before he puts me to far to shame, lol.
-
JL 10w7 VS FI
LOL. I have to admit, it was a very sexy sub. Expensive as hell though, that is why I was so curious. Looks more like a monster sub.

JL 10w7 VS FI
My friend just picked up two of these beefy lookin subs and I am gettin ready to order my FI's. Where would these sit in the FI lineup. I was guessin between Q and SSD, not to sure though.

Thats cool. I still have a lot of debatin to tumble around in my head. I like everything when it comes to music, so I am still in the process of debating my setup. My old lady is naggin me to do what everyone else around here is doin and just do a nice ported setup with a 15....guess she likes SPL more than me, lol. Just finished checkin out your build log, nice. I like how that last pic looks with the sub pointing forward. I could something like that with plexiglass or somethin, that would be cool. I have a tiny little system in my work truck now, 2 RF P3's with 500 watts each in a ported box. I cant help but to wonder how that compares to an IB with a 15. I am not even sure how much bass much current crap produces, not much I am sure. I vibrated my rearview mirror off once, kinda fun. But I do like your setup, nice.

Wow, I got a lot of learning to do. I was just into SPL for the longest time, now I want something "spectacular." I will be sure to get with Scott and my fav local shop to do all this fun stuff and learn more about what is going on with SQ setups. I noticed on your build log you had 3 10's. Are they hooked to one amp or several? If hooked to one, how is that done, wouldnt that cause some odd impedance loads?

I have been to every car show in my general area and not one person has had an IB. My area is "dirty south" territory so its all systems that have so much bass and no mids and highs, so I wanna do something different and right....let them see how it really is done. So you are saying put 8's in the doors where my 6.5's usually go and add the tweets where they usually belong. Put like 4 10" Q's in the trunk. That sounds kinda nice now that i think about it.

I was thinkin of getting Scott to set me up with some Q's made for IB, hearing that he has done it a few times before. As for mids and highs, I am lookin at getting 2 sets of RE's XXX comp set. Heard them a couple times and they blew me away....but in my area something like those are amazing components. Everyone here has Kicker and junk like that.

I never heard an IB before! How do they compared to a general sealed enclosure? I heard they are not always quite as good, but I have no clue. I know the subs cant handle as much power, will they still get as loud as a sealed setup? Right now I am pretty set on 4 10's, esp since my old lady is puttin her foot down with 4 10's as it is. Not sure if sealed or IB though. You got it right Mathman, that is exactly what I am going for, an all around show vehicle. Its gotta sound as good as it looks.

What are your opinions for a show car install
Quick easy question, would 2 12" Q's ported with 1k watts each be louder than a 15" BTL with 2500 watts. Just curious. I think 1 15" BTL would look pretty cool. Esp if I were to wrap the box in black leather or something and red stitching for the accent.
-
What is IB'd
I am sure it would look cool, but from all your other posts from way back when you are much more into SPL, which I think you would lose a lot of.
-
What would you do...the correct post
an IB would sound the best huh? I have honestly never seen a car with an infinite baffle and have no clue about them, so this will take some research? Can they usually produce a nice amount of vibrations? I want it to look great, but I love my little vibrations and the feel of some SPL.

My problem is I keep changin my mind. Now that I am picturing 1 15 ported, and put a very nice built and planned box to match my interior, it does look pretty pimp. 2 12's would sound a lot louder in a ported setup, but i can't really picture a great lookin setup with that one, so i will have to keep that in mind. when it comes to 4 10's sealed, box builds are limitless as to design just about.
-
difference between SSD and Q
No amp really selected yet and I am open to that. I just hear great things about each and was curious as to what divides them. I am also not sure as to if i want to run 4 10's sealed or 2 12's ported....unfort now i am even lookin at a BTL 15 ported. This is for a show car and several people have brought it to my attention a ported 15 isn't seen to ofter, i may be interesting. Plus i could make it look really nice, so that is not an option. The problem with your great subs are that there are to many great choices and options.

A few simple questions
Cool, thanks Scott.

I am plannin on probably going with FI for this venture. It is going in the trunk of a Dodge Charger SRT and will be set up according to what goes in there (i.e. plexiglass or not, ports, etc). Just gettin some opinions with this one. It will also be a daily driver. I listen to everything, literally, so I am open to what you guys think.
