I need help with an idea
I haven't had the chance to use them yet, but I'm getting ready to do a budget build for someone's rear channels, and I'm going to use Dayton DA175's (7" driver) in a MT arrangement with a yet undecided tweeter. At $18/piece it's worth it to test 'em out. (for me at least)

I need help with an idea
I too also got tired of my el cheapo computer speakers. I ended up doing what I refer to as my "desktop towers"... Or some simple MTM's. I went with the Dayton Reference 6"s, paired to a Dayton silk dome, and used one of the PE passive crossovers, powered off of a Behringer A500. The system is far from finished, but operational and a 1000X improvement over my old speakers. I'm thinking a small sub and an active crossover will be the next steps. I spent more on the setup than I really wanted to so far, but it's steps towards a much better system, but considering my profession, and the amount of time I'm behind the computer and listening to music, I can justify it.

Thoughts on a dashboard material...
Go to a Jo Ann fabrics store, or someplace similar, and just walk around... You might find something rugged, or you just might get new ideas.

Thoughts on a dashboard material...
Would you not be able to do a combination? I'm thinking either vinyl and suede or vinyl and tweed. The vinyl mainly for appearance and cost, and suede/tweed for taming. Then there's alway shag carpeting or leopard print faux fur!

Havoc preferences...
I still haven't managed to sit down and measure it out. I'm looking for some method of getting a bunch of 6" X 6" X 6" cubes to stack up to get an idea of how much space it's going to take up. I had the bright idea of using foam blocks for floral arrangements... Then I saw the price tag on them!

Yo...
Always a pleasure to see that sig!

Now... Aiming. These are going in a Tahoe. What's the best direction to aim them? For looks in general, I would like to aim them at the rear doors, either slightly angled up, or close to a 45 degree angle. I don't see any issue with that configuration... The next part is where I think I'll have to modify: I wanted to put one in each "corner" and angle them towards each other maybe 30 degrees. What would the recommendation be for this?

Yo...
Sean (///M5) pointed me over here from fullsizechevy.com. I keep coming back here just to see his sig! Just some background info if anyone is interested... I've got a '99 Tahoe (4-door 4wd) and a '96 2wd Chevy reg cab pickup. I'm planning on drops for both and new "systems" for both. I've gotten into the DIY lines of speakers, and have became a Parts Express junkie. I'm a computer programmer by profession, and have an actual cabinet shop in my front yard, so I piddle around there most nights, making MDF rings and all types of other "things" for cars, boats, and trucks... Nothing major, but just a hobby. The Tahoe should hopefully be getting a computer installed this winter, once I make my new center console to house a touchscreen. That should be an interesting project!

Cheap place to buy textbooks online?
I always buy my hard copy textbooks from half.com.

Havoc preferences...
A pair will be going into the Tahoe in my sig. I'm wanting as "tight" bass as possible from these, and I'm leaning towards large sealed enclosures... Somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5 cubes a piece. Any issues with this setup?

Sealed space on MLI-65's
Yeah, it's for my truck. I've got this itch to do a new set of kicks, and I'm wanting some something cheap that I can run in a small sealed enclosure.

Havoc preferences...
Do the Havocs (namely 18"s) prefer to be ported or sealed. Or are they at home in either enclosure?

Sealed space on MLI-65's
Just looking to see what the recommended sealed enclosure for a MLI-65 would be.

Any info on box specs?
Do you hear that? I think two 18" Havocs are calling my name! Now comes the time to measure up to see how feasible TWO will be.
