The 4.0 had an issue with timing chains mainly which made the explorer get dubbed the "exploder" to begin with since jumping a couple teeth could make the engine basically in a term "explode" causing valves and rods to go bent and break everywhere. I have owned a 97 explorer, although it was a 5.0 model 302. To me a car is a car and is only as good as how well you take care of it. I show no favortism towards brands, but I will throw a joke once in a while against others nonchalantly. I know this will be loud. If not Senchez knows I'll give him crap about it so it better be.
