  1. I listen to a variety of music... everything from rap to rock etc I like my boxes ported and usually are tuned to around 32-35Hz unless they're a competition box I like my rap bass to be loud when I want it, but usually dont like my rock to be over-bassy; so its turned down when i listen to that. hope this helps! I haven't listened to a lot of "SQ" subs because most people around here mainly just crank their stuff up and go for as loud as possible (Orion HCCA's, Type-R's, etc). The best sounding subs i've listened to I think are RE SE's. I really liked the way they sounded. My BL sounds pretty good to me though for everything I use my sub for.
  2. Hey guys! got another topic about a new set-up idea i'm looking at Current set-up is an 18" BL on a JBL BP1200.1 amplifier Currently though, i'm looking at picking up another BP1200.1 for a total of 2. this means I would start changing around my subs then. Here's where i'll give you the info and you try to help me decide Limitations: Each BP puts out 1200 watts @ 2 ohms. I'll have two of them and they're not strappable so it'll be two subs i'm looking at. I have around 5.8 cubes of space to play with. Max sub size I can fit in terms of still being able to get the box in the trunk are 2 15's. I'm leaning more towards 12's though just because then i can actually give them ample space to work with and it makes it easier for me to fit a port in with them. Current subs I was looking at were between: 2 12" BL's with P Chamfer or 2 12" ICONS. My goals for this build are I wanna say LSQ...but i know id be lying about the definition of what that means haha. I want it to be louder then my 18" BL and somewhere around the same sounding which I dont think should be that hard to match the "SQ" of a BL. forgot to add..this will be going into a trunk car and as for the orientation of the drivers, i'm not sure about front firing or rear firing. see how big the box is. let me know what your guys's opinions are on this! thanks! what are your guys's reccomendations on these? Any other ones out there?
  3. forgot to add though...one of the things about is is that it is an A/B amp not a class D
  4. sorry i wasn't clear enough. yes, the BP line is not sold currently by JBL anymore. They were replaced with the GTO I do believe. I bought mine from a friend for around 180 dollars which has been a pretty good deal. On ebay I've seen them go for around 200 maybe. Nut sure how much you like buying used/without warranty, those kinds of things but its worked perfectly for me being on a budget!
  5. figure i'll throw this out there seeing as im in a bit of a pickle myself with this an amp to consider you can find on eBay that will fit your bill perfectly is a JBL BP1200.1 Its what I'm currently running to my BL. I have no idea the RMS i'm putting out. But i did find an old car audio mag that tested @ 13.8V it put out 1380RMS i think @ 2ohms so it might be what you want depending on your electrical. As far as durability goes, its been through everything in my car. One of my grounds even came loose and the amp was like going in and out and shorting out and everything and it was smelling really bad. I thought it was a goner for sure. Checked the cables for it...boom, bad ground fixed and its back up and running like it never even happened ill be interested to see what you get though because I bought a D1 sub and its a difficult thing to upgrade the power for it.
  6. I have an 18" BL firing up in the trunk of my honda accord and i havent noticed any difference sound quality but I have noticed that it moves my rear deck covering a lot more then typical.
  7. Yes, the MAW's are the 500 RMS a piece thats why I decided to look at them because they fit my power level correctly as for the tuning ideal, i tuned into the 30's because although i want "SPL" i am also a fan of the lows. so i mean i figure if i tune them the same that won't matter all THE tmuch if i make them both tuned to the same frequency they should still be "compareable"
  8. Hey guys! I have another sub comparison question for you. I'll try n' give you as many details as I can and you let me know what your closest estimations might be for them! Overall: Both of these set-ups will be going into a 1995 Honda Accord electrical system is up to par to be running the 1200 rms Current set-up: 18" Fi BL Daily Loaded 1200 watts RMS 5.5 cu ft Box ported @ 32Hz Questionable Set-up? 2 x 15" MAW's 1200 watts RMS for them total 5.8 cu ft box ported @ 30Hz what set-up do you guys think will be better? I'm gearing more in terms of SPL. but like if you had to pick between these, which would you find more suitable to you? im a bit of a basshead when I decide to crank it up, so keep that in mind! let me know if theres any more info you need!
  9. http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/051...ofer/index.html thats the review done on it by car audio mag, but I am skeptical of it. Mainly because of the SQ testing on an SPL sub...and then saying it sounds good all other things Ive heard is that although it can get loud, it needs gobs of power, and doesnt sound good. especially for that price cost. yikes!
  10. what subs are you comparing between the 12's and 18's? there's so many other options out there its impossible to tell you an answer the power you'll be giving them, box sizes, things like that. Also...your goals may be a bit off. I would say its going to be hard for you to hear the highs over 4 12's or 2 18's depending on how loud you turn them up.
  11. What are your guys' favorite places to get your speakers online? or what do you have that people should stay away from?
  12. an easy way to get the songs off is to set the folders to view invisible. Then just drag them over to your computer. However, they will all be named weird from the file. But most of the ID3 tags will be the same when you view them in iTunes otherwise there are a few different programs on the internet u can find
  13. I would go for the BL. Fi has different subs because they're meant for different applications and power ranges. why buy a sub like the BTL if you arent even going to use its full potential. Where as a BL with the full options would be a much better fit. unless of course you have some sort of overall plan for upgrading the amp.
  14. a lot of it depends on what you want to see from the subwoofer if you listen to rap a lot, im guessing you are wanter some louder, boomier bass. I'd say stick with ported to achieve the most output from your sub. to get your ideal "setup" i would focus on your tuning. what is your current box tuned to? and also, am i correct in assuming you are going for louder, boomier bass? or do you want that tighter, sealed sound?
  15. hey guys! I have your typical question for sub comparions again. Im looking at comparing the DC Lab LVL 4 15" subwoofer vs. 18" BL Here are the specs: I have a maximum of 5.5ish cu. ft possible for the subs. I'd run the BL in 5.5 cu ft and the LVL 4 in around 4ish maybe tune them to around...35Hz or so. I have a JBL BP1200.1 to power them. So around...1100 to 1200 watts per sub. The BL would be Fully loaded for daily driving. what do you guys think would perform better in comparison to SPL ouputs? Im thinking the SQ will be around the same maybe? lemme know if you guys have any ideas! I know the sub comparisons are always hard because of all the variables
  16. hmm...i dont know if everything adds up a 4000 watt amp on a BL? and only 80 amp fuses on the amp? what are some more specifics?
  17. going off your signature...im thinking you mean the Fs and just missed it maybe? otherwise I am confused, haha DUAL 1 | DUAL 2 Fs: 28.4 Hz | 27.1 Hz thats for a 12" Q
  18. Hey guys! was just browsing around and am sorta of scouting out some new 6.5 components to use in my car. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3742_-...ns+CD60.4C.html what do you guys think of those? I haven't heard them or anything, but im just looking for like a sort of your input. Their aren't many "variations" of speakers around here for met o listen to. so i'm looking for your input on these and if u think they're even worth considering. maybe I can track down a set to listen to. lemme know! and if not and have another set in your head, id love to hear suggestions!
  19. Hey guys! so its time to get around to finishing up my car in at least short terms. And i've got Big 3 to do, dampening (it never ends), and a new front stage. What would you guys recommend for a front stage? Lemme give you guys the set-up/etc i'm looking currently for a so-so good sounding driver. I'm in a way looking for stuff to keep up with my sub and not be overpowered. So just a good sounding driver for my price range. Size: 6.5" slot...the window cuts pretty close in terms of mounting depth, so nothing thats overly deep Components Vs. Coaxials: I'm not real particular, but i don't really want to modify my doors. Coaxials are of course 6.5's and components are 6.5 mid basses and then I can fit a 1" tweeter in the stock component spot (is on the front dash in the corners closest to the front window firing upward). Price Range: Hoping to stay under 150 if possible. Max price would be around...180 I think Things I've been looking at to give ya an idea: Type-R components, I like the sound of the JL coaxials, Polk MOMO components...Haven't listened to to many...but I'm just looking for a starting point to track down the speakers to listen to them. Power: about...65-75 rms per channel @ 4 ohms Thats about all I can think of in terms of information...if you want to know more/etc, lemme know!!
  20. Hey guys! thinking of redoing my set-up and am wondering why my loudest combo would be? Items I have to work with: 1300ish watts of power @ 1 or 2 ohms; 5-5.5 cu ft of box space price really that big of a deal seeing as I know I don't have enough for the BTL's and this isn't a real immediate idea, so i can save up for a bit. As for as my wattage and so forth, I'm hoping to not have to upgrade because righ tnow my electrical is just on the edge of supporting the amp I currenly have and if I am not thinking of getting a new alt, etc anytime in the near future. In terms of dimensions though...I can only fit one 18" of a sub, 2 15's, 3, 12's, and probably 3 10's also. Goals are: pretty much righ tnow being loud; not sounding terrible. But i've heard the BL's and thought they performed fine, so that should give u an idea of what my "requirements" are i guess. Not to picky about that. Lemme know what you guys think would work the best in terms of subs and whats gonna be loudest!
  21. I have experience with the Fi BL's and have only heard Type-X's but what i'll say is that they're defintely geared towards SQ. In the Alpine line-up, the Type-R's are even more SPL oriented then the X's. I'm going to go out on a limb and say maybe what you're gearing towards is the Q's over the BL's if you want some SQ based with good ouput. As for how the Q's line up against the X's...i'm not real sure. But i'd have to lean my way towards the Q's in overall performance. (again, this is with limited first hand experience)
  22. ahh...well as I am about to say what I'm sure everyone else will say. First off...if this is daily, Fi reccomends not using the extreme leads due to you'd probably hear tinsel slap. Thats more of an SPL burp option Second...the RMS is 1000 watts, but if u get the full daily options you can feed them a bit more. They're tough subs Thirdly...box size and tuning depends on what you want. But a good starting place is Fi's reccomendation of 2.8-4 cubic feet @ 28-37Hz per sub What sort of scenario are these going to be used and we can help ya out more i'm sure.
  23. yea johnecon...thats sorta the same things I have heard. I haven't had a chance to take apart the door panel yet. As for what type of speaker, I haven't even looked at that to hard. But i figured i'll just check before to see if anyone knows anything. Last night I was trying to find a stock speaker replacement for them but I couldn't locate any on the internet. To compare to i guess i'll just have to take it apart and see what it looks like! in general though...is this that big of a deal? or ar emost speakers a pretty average depth assuming i'm not hrowing like a 6.5" woofer in there or something drastic? at most i'd just be doing an average price (120-150) component or a coaxial in there.
  24. I know that the size of my speakers is 6.5", but my question is this. I have a 1995 Honda Accord and am worried about mounting depth. I've heard that the window comes down pretty close to the back of the stock speakers and on crutchfield, I'm not sure if the speaker takes into account the mounting depth. anyone had any experience with the honda accord? or if crutchfield takes into account the mounting depth?
  25. maybe my computers just frieking out or something...but where is the amp?? or link or whatever??
