than whats the deal with these guys running almost 1000 watts to theyre drivers?

well im getting ready to purchase all my front stage equipment, SLS-8's and probably CDT gold 4" 2ways. the question is, if i decide to go with raw drivers for mids and high like the Auras or Seas, which are about all 8ohm, whats the best way to get some decent power to them? i understand that 100watts to these is about sufficient, but i know of competitors pushing 800watts to each driver! so whats your front stage/amp setup? and any reccomendations would be wonderful

is the sls8 one of the better choices simply from the xmax? specs compared to others arent entirely alot, i havent dealt with raw drivers very much other then powering them with a A/C outlet for fun what should i look for compared to the SLS8?

i got a buddy with a set of brand new SLS-8"s the 830667 model, wants 100$ for them, cheap enough i can just pick them up and try them out..

install will be done as tedious as possible.. im not gonna spend the money and then crap the install.. my personal car should be a example of my abilities, obviously il shoot for for perfection. has anyone ever heard the Resonant Engineering 8s? the RE-8(wonder who thought of that one!) i know a guy down south thats got a set, il have to find an excuse to drive an hour to miami for a listen

yes, that is deffinately one hell of a unit, il have to sit down and organise where the money is worth spending between 1000+ for the alpine goodies, or hybrid audio speakers.. is there a way to use the h701 with another HU? if i could use a 2nd alpine monitor as a controler for the h701 in standalone mode, that would be well worth it for me, theres a pocket ontop of my center dash calling me for a nice 7" lcd, processor controls would be o so perfect!- im using a kenwood excelon ddx7015 (wich i hate might i add)

so something like the audiocontrol DQX or DQXS or even the matrix would suit me better no?

i might be getting a deal on a set of hybrid audio 3way component, 8", 4", 1" and just go active with that... might be worth it to spend the extra and get a combo ive heard before

so maybe something like the Audiocontrol "Epicenter" or "DQL-8/DQXS" would be more of what im looking for? from what im understanding i need to split the preout signal into 6 channels and then amp each of them seperately, correct? ie; HU front-> procesor -> left midbass \ > 2channel amp -> 8"s -> right midbass / -> left mid \ > 2channel amp -> mids -> right mid / -> left tweet \ > 2channel amp -> tweets -> right tweet / so no crossovers needed if the EQ/Processor can handle it instead.. i hope thats right! =)

the goal is just good quality sound, im not competing SQ. its my daily and im trying to get the most volume without losing quality, but i want full range, my last system lacked midrange completely(why i decided to use 8") JimJ- are you saying to use a channel for every set of speakers? as in run three 2-channels for the front? i doubt it that but thats what it sounds like.. a single 2 channel will power 4" and tweets, but without any crossovers at all theres gonna be some problems.. can you be a little more specific?

my setup will be a 3way setup for my front stage consisting of; 8"(undecided) in doors 4" CDT gold 2way set in kicks 12" iCONs in trunk HU is kenwood DDX7017 (somethin like that) amps will all be kicker(undecided on models) so my question is; is the KX3 3-way active crossover from kicker a good option? if not what would be better? im debating on also putting a set of some 6.5 midbass drivers in the panel next to my door for a bit of rear fill, i know its not most peoples taste, but my 3way setup is worrying me about missing some fill. if i decided to use those rears would u just use the 2way crossover as well as the 3way for the front? is there anything im missing? thanks for the help should i use 2 2-channel amps? one for the 8"s and the other for the CDTs?

finally pulled the trigger on a set of 12 iCONs now im tossing around box designs.. i may get some help from a coworker that does box designs for a hobby lol

yea thats what i figured, this way il be able to distinguish that specific sound im looking for.. think il probably buy one at a time so i can still have enough to throw at my front stage and processor!!

thats basically how i feel about them too.. the biggest grime i have with them is that 750watts burnt the voicoil and spider to the point of being stuck at full excursion.. and that was a w7, and they want 320 to fix it.. haaa... haa... haaaa.... yea how about no. im going to buy a few subs and test them all out.. a mojo, rockford t2 and iCON decide which i like the most and get another most likely, i think i got a pretty wide variety of subs in that choice so it should give me a much better idea at what to look for.. i should start preparing the credit cards =D

well ive got everything else down pat, its basically set to just the sub and the box, its gonna have ample power, and what ever processer i choose i have someone thats gonna help me tune everything as good as it gets. thats why i was curious as to box requirements.. ive seen some serious spl boxes use internal channels that made quite an impressive difference. has anyone compared these side by side to a JL 12w7 for example? im thinking of buying a few subs and trying each, find the one i like the most and tweak the enclosure as much i can

would anyone be able to estimate a db level with one 12" iCON or even 2 ported iCONs? i can fit 2 of then nicely, but im just wondering if 2 is necessary..

ive been arguing with myself to try the iCON 12" sub, ive only heard good about it, but i have never heard one before, and i dont know of anyone in my area with one.. anyone use these in south florida?

12" in the kicks ? HUH ??? damn those gonna be some big kicks Enclosure shape really doesn't matter much for sub enclosures in cars unless your talking humongoid spl enclosures. just to clear it up, i DID mean kicks of the trunk lol as in corners of the trunk? for example; that was an idea a while ago but decided not to go that route, i already know its junk, kthanks

ok a basic question, im gonna try a 12" in the kicks, but the box will be in the floor and be over 2 cubes each, would the overall shape of the box make a difference in sound? it would be rather oblong, but i think its the only way to get over 2 cubes on each enclsure. this way i can port and tune for larger subs.. but how much does shape account for?

my coworker just recently sold his car that was sponsored by ED, so he still gets the good hookups.. anyways, im not sure how i would use an 8ohm speaker, how would i wire a typical 2 channel amp to power that? ///M5; your knowledge overwhelms me =D haha

true i cant say i have, but i get 65% off, so its 1/2 the price of the raamats, and its alot thicker, it shall do =) ok maybe a stupid question, but the drivers im seeing from scanspeak are all like 8+ ohm except 1 or 2.. and i didnt see any of them being IB, only actual midbass driver was a paper cone, which sounds like home audio, i wouldnt use a paper cone for a car. i saw the PL22WR09 wich is a 8" midbass from Peerless, but again, its 8ohm and not IB am i missing something here?

the iridiums i heard were in my oppionion not worth the money, they sounded great but the cost is too much.. i havent used the raamats or second skin, but ive used eDeadV2 on several cars now and have had great results, alot of people bash them but theyve got some stuff that really performs well.. i cant find any of the scanspeak or peerless sets your refferring.. all im finding is home audio, do you have a link?

i can get up to 4cubes.. any bigger and the box isnt going to be removable. JoeHemi57; yes i am looking for spl, but its gotta be something i can listen to, im not going to be competing SQ obviously..
