IMO better off going with a good used amp then some budget new amp. like find a used kicker, or jbl, or something that makes power at 2 ohms, not a hifonics or boss or lanzar or something lol
  2. not so sure the inversion is the cause, sounds like a very not-solid box, with possible leaks, and turn down your sub volume on the HU, turn bass to 0, make sure your xover on amp is set correctly, and try turning your amp's gain down. if no O-scope, here's one idea, turn LP xover off on your sub amp, so that woofer is playing higher tones, start your car, if you hear whining, or any noise coming through woofer, turn down gain until eliminating, then reset xover accordingly. It's no where near "proper" but better then "it's halfway up"
  3. what about just doing some bassrace, maybe 140-149.9 class?? with the exact setup you have, because you'd be playing music in a bassrace.
  4. ok pretty simple, will def. get an o-scope in near future thanks for all info guys!
  5. awesome, the price isn't a huge factor, and i like the idea of handheld, but anything less expensive you'd recommend? and also how exactly would you us this to set gain? I feel really dumb asking i'm sure i could figure out, just not something i've done or spent the extra money on to do.
  6. looks good, i plan on doing some fiberglassing on the interior of my next project, two 8's in each front door and 4' mid and 1' tweet in each A-pillar. so i'm def. taking notes, haven't exactly worked a lot with fiberglass. any fiberglass products you'd recommend that work better than others from like an ace hardware or w/e you like? i hear that what you use is very important.
  7. Ok, so I've done a lot in car audio, and have used a dmm to set gains before, but it was a cheap one from radio shack and i don't feel it was really worth crap even using. Never blown any speakers, but also know I've never had a perfectly correctly set gain on an amp. I just do it by "feel", "sound" and performance. natural abilities you may say, complete crap you may even say! lol but hey it's worked so far but i'm tired of trusting myself. What oscilloscope has anyone used? know of? how much? where? and what will do the trick/be best for setting gains? Thanks in advance i'm very interested!
  8. i like it, very cool, awesome for that vehicle!!
  9. was wondering about that, i thought, "two different coils on same woofer? maybe a combo??" lol but i don't build woofers for a leaving so i didn't want to question...lol awesome!!! sounds good maybe i will have to get this started earlier then planned
  10. I sat in his van with the SSD's at laster year's DB finals in tampa, not so sure i'd want to sit in this vehicle!!!! absolutely insane!! OF COURSE I STILL LOVE IT!!! which AA's are those btw?
  11. I threw an e-mail at Scott a couple days ago, then went on the forum and read the sticky about e-mailing about questions and stuff that aren't orders, sorry. Anyway here's what I wanted to say... two things, my feedback from my Q15 and a question on a 18 BTL First of all, absolutely love the Q15 w/bp, an absolute monster, the ported box, 4.8cuft @28hz was just insane, I was blowing away everything else I heard, W7 on a 1000/1 built to "JL specs", and two kicker setups, one pushing 2kw to two 15L5, and one setup pushing 3kw on 2 15L7's!! Because they had significantly more power then me (rf p1000-1bd) the higher bass tones were close, but as soon as it dropped low, I absolutely blew them away!!! Well, I decided to then swtich my car into an SQ build for hopefully some competitions this summer. It is now sealed in 2.25cuft, and the rest of the build is almost done. Just waiting on a couple key components, but have done a few test runs just with the sub, and dang, 1 15 sealed, whoever says can't be that musical, doesn't know Fi, amazing, tight, accurate, yet still able to drop plenty low and push some hard hitting bass!! love it!!! pictures of new finished install should be coming and finishing my build thread in 1 1/2 weeks. Now, I got this brilliant idea to get a trailblazer, and have that as more of an SPL daily, and keep the infiniti as an SQ daily. The build should start in April, which should give me time to finish the current one, get it tuned in, and take care of a couple other things. Well I like to have everything planned ahead so here's what's planned for the lows. Please tell me if you'd make any changes. BTL 18 with cooling, and flatwind(which i read on forum is now standard on the BTL, would just like to confirm that, and then would like to add a 3rd magnet and HiXm coil, since this is a loud daily setup. The amp in mind was a sundown audio 3000d. or a RF t2001bd. i know both are very underrated, as I read in the sundown thread that a 3000d tested at like ~3200 watts at 10.75 VOLTS!!!! so i'm guessing ~4kws at 14.4v (i know like it matters) for box i was thinking 6.5cuft ported to 33hz, with ~110 sq in of port. and if anyone knows what a similar setup has hit in what vehicle as far as DB's, please let me know as I am interested!!
  12. no, I doubt it, but that sharpness has to do with your tweets playing too low. 2.2khz is very very low for tweets. and also the fact that your xover is only 18db slope, not 24 can also allow for a bit more sharpness. try crossing over to more like 3500 hz or 4khz. I just picked ordered a set of the MLI-65's to finish out a set of 3-way components. I plan on playing them as low as possible, like 52 hz- ~130 depending on their sound. Then the Hybrid-audio legatia L4 mids will take over all the way up to about 6200 hz where the Hybrid-Audio Legatia L1's will take over the rest. I noticed someone made the comment about the MLI-65's being xover at 60 hz? why not any lower? did they not sound so great? and how much power you have running to them? I will be running ~115 to them after voltage drop, RMS 140 but no way will get that.
  13. loving, one question, how are you wiring up all the speakers? two channels off the T15kw for stereo, each channel wired in series to 5-6 speakers or how? just kinda curious on how the whole system is wired, 8 18's, 2 10's, and 6 sets of comps off of two 4-channel amps? I have it laid out in my head how i'd do it, just wondering how you're doing it. BTW: ABSOLUTELY BALLIN OUTTA CONTROL PROJECT!!! THIS THING I BET GETS 2-3 MAG COVERS!!!
  14. I love my sealed 15, i did 2.25 cuft sealed. Sounds absolutely amazing, so clean, and who says a 15 can't keep up with a double-bass peddle? well they're wrong!! However, I will say i had it in 4.8cuft ported to 28hz previously and HUGE INCREASE IN BASS, and absoulutely insane lows, Trae in the hood slowed down was just plain outta control, i was walking all over every system i saw, W7's, L7's, you name it. And it still sounded awesome, just quicker response and tighter bass out of the sealed.
  15. It really depends on which BL you got, dual 1 or dual 2? if dual 1 ohm, you need an amp that pushed full power at 2 ohms, if dual 2, you need an amp to push full power at 1 ohm, which in that case i would recommend the fosgate t1500bd, way underrated too, will push probably closer to 2500 watts. So there are really two questions needed to be answered before you purchase an amp: 1.) what ohm configuration is the woofer 2.) how much power can the woofer handle?
  16. yeh right, LOL, i think this vehicle would do quite well for RF, only problem is not using their woofers. actually surprised going with the RF speakers in the doors, not a huge fan myself, of course when doing that many in a vehicle that loud problem doesn't make that big of a difference. But the RF amps are tough to beat, and just ordered a 3sixty.2, hope i'm not disappointed. I've heard a couple not so good reviews, but one was from someone who doesn't know a whole lot about what they're doing.
  17. looks like you had the space why not fifteens?
  18. Scott, the assasin's sealed what you think?? from 50hz to ~125??
  19. oh yes for info on the speakers please visit http://hybrid-audio.com/
  20. The LEGATIA'S ARE IN!!! here's some pics of the new drivers... Today I am going to strip the inside of the vehicle and run some wiring. Also ordered the soundstream pq-7 shipping out today, so everything will be installed hopefully by end of next week all I will have to do is get one more amp and figure out how I want to finish/cover the amp rack, kick panels. PLEASE KEEP THE COMMENTS COMING I WANT SOME MORE FEEDBACK!! Also hope everyone enjoys the holiday season!!
  21. that fosgate amp is kick-ass, so is sundown audio, and us amps. fully loaded BL?? put at least 1500 on it, it will take 2000, and that fosgate would probably test around 1750.
  22. Ok, sorry had other things going on last night but here's what i got done. used some tape rings that just happened to be the perfect size for the cutout for the tweet, then wrapped some more tape around another ring sitting around to make it the cutout size for the midrange. used the rings to then cutout some circles in cardboard (very easy to work with) now the other side and that's it for the night, now I need to get that router from dad, he's using it right now, or just go buy/rent one. I am going to build out some rings then fiberglass them for the kick panels. Should look nice. Might be a little wait now for more progess, got Christmas with the family and I need to find a new place to live for the 1st of the year.
  23. I hope you're getting paid by the hour.
  24. as long as it's clean, not gain crazy, and you don't just sit there and crank the bass boost, then yes, and do it beautifully. Every setup i've seen with them has had a decent 1000 watt amp on 2 of them.
  25. me too if i had that the money, some day i'm sure.
