  1. probably thought you had some salami or bologna tucked away in your pants; can't blame the cat for that
  2. based on my rough calculations the post + concrete would be around 250 pounds, about 2/3 of which would be underground
  3. was thinking of digging a 4' hole, putting an 8' section of 4x4x.250 wall square tubing in it, fill both the hole and the tubing with concrete
  4. mailbox is fine, we have a Rubbermaid model that flies away on impact. The post, notsomuch
  5. having no curb + no sidewalk sucks

  11. Well that sucks for you. How do you live without a basement? I couldn't do it. We use the attic space for HVAC, typically. This house? Not so typical. All three bids include relocating the unit(s) into the attic, redoing the ducting the right way, adding new return(s), and extending the gas line(s), FWIW. We're probably going to go the two single stage units route.
  12. But yes, having basements for HVAC, electrical, and washer/dryer is definitely the way to go if your water table is low enough

  14. It's some new marketing campaign up in NYC; Anti-Defamation League is going ape shit over it
  15. http://thedailywh.at/2011/11/22/unfriendly-skies-of-the-day-8/ poor bastard; almost had that happen to me flying back from Charlotte; luckily there were a few open rows available.
  16. furnace and evap. coil are in a closet in the far left of the house, also the only air return, with flex line octopussing out (no main trunk line) to the rest of the house.
  17. The house as an odd shape, basically an exaggerated C. Because of the large run from side to side we were thinking of either a single furnace/air conditioner with a zone damper system or a dual furnace/air conditioner system. Crude Paint drawing: So basically we were given a bid on: A.) Single dual stage air conditioner with variable speed furnace and zoned damper B.) Dual single stage air conditioners with standard furnaces C.) Dual dual stage air conditioners with variable speed furnaces A & B are roughly the same price; C is more expensive than either.
