First Gigabyte motherboard both the onboard LAN and audio stopped working for whatever reason. That was one of my parent's older machines... Second Gigabyte motherboard is in the machine I am typing at right now. Onboard audio stopped working and the onboard LAN chip can't run BitTorrent for more than 5 minutes without throwing a hissy fit.

I think the Asus i7 board has dual LAN also, interesting idea if nothing else...

Your choice, all i7 motherboards right now use the same chipset. The only difference between them are the feature set and brand name. Personally, I'm partial to the Asus, MSI, and ABIT brands, and I tend to avoid Gigabyte...I'm 0 for 2 with them...

I am not counting in 20's, but 100's. Thresholds are meant to be logical but stretched. the new i7 is/will be the bee's knees. there will be no front side buss with the right MoBo. that's pretty win. yup, Intel's finally taking a cue from AMD and integrating the memory controller into the CPU itself...

well considering we are talking about you, the choice is rather obvious

I'd definitely go with Core i7 myself though...

Intel Core 2 Quad/AMD Phenom II something or other with a shit load of RAM is probably at a more reasonable price point....but then again reasonable price point is in the eye of the beerholder.

And you computer is not that old, I'm still running on a socket A platform. In my reviews of things Tom's seems to be biased and for the wrong reasons, but again old info here.
