A RAID array for the music server is the fall project, I've got a really general idea about RAID 0, 0+1, 5, etc...but on actually installing and running it I'm clueless right now. I'm thinking 2TB or so...heck, with the way single drives have gone up in volume, there might be a 2TB SATA drive by the fall But I wouldn't want that much data without some way to recover it... 2TB is more data than ever. raid 5 should work for you thoguh as it is part mirror part striping, that of course is the simple version. Basicaly it's an amazing way to make all the space available from the disks and then back it up, so that if a drive drops out you have the rest to compensate, it would just run a bit slower. But in reality, if it's a home music server... yeah even 2 7,200 drives would get data as fast as you would want. I just want more performance if I ever move to video, or when playing a game. The new veloci raptors are running at speeds faster than current solid state. 300GB is more than I need for sure if I run them raid style with 600GB between them.

....oh realy? hrmmm.. I don't even see where it says that. It could solve my delima with my only having 2 way with the 880. It's killing me to not have new audio in there but I'm really indecisive and see the good sides of too many things. GrrrRRrrr

Another down side is my music HD and my laptop are now having issues talking with the friendlyness. I have commisioned my roommate to build me a mega super duper PC. Have you guys seen the new veloci-raptor drives? MmmMMMMM tastey. Were thinking about a sweet raid set up. I'm just not totaly comfortable with raid 0. Maybe raid X if it lives to the hype, or raid 5. Buy 5 would require more drives.

I have no idea what that H701 even does. lol I only get that it makes with the dolby/dts.... I'm now really left wanting that I had 3 way processing. A rule of audio is to always buy bigger and better than you say you need, because you will want... "sigh" The upside is I may be getting a new pedal bike this summer so I can get my fat arse into shape. I used to mountain bike when I was younger, but I got out of it.

I'm torn between finding a mag d2(old style) The last blue boob capped Icon and an SDX15" from CSS. I have the 1500saz so power is there, more than needed in fact, but that's why the lord made gain knob

I have an older alpine v 12 that's only 60 watts x 4. I wanted to upgrade and go 3 way front, but it's becoming a nightmare of logistics without the processing to handle it.

I randomly was talking about people in HS I wish I still knew with my roommate, and a friend of mine came up who was one of the sweetest girls I've ever met, and in general a mega cutie. She went on to be some kind of model, well yesterday I'm taking phone calls at work and I get a call from her calling on behalf of a client of her investment company. Hilarious, she went by a different first name than what I called her in HS but the last name, and it was unique enough to ask if she had a sister. Nope it was her. Funny stuff, I hadn't even thought about this person in years and then have a convo about her and whammy. Yeah, if she's still modeling I'm going to set up my roommate if I can lol.

lawlorskatez. You folks are crazy. I feel that 2 chan > 5.1 6.1 7.1 or any other combo. and above video. My 480 projector is real nice for the 80" screan, and most people think it's 720-1080p anyway because they are teh noobs. sounds like it will be pretty awesome Sean. I hope someday I can have a dedicated 2 and a dedicated HT. Not for some time I'm sure though! so I say 2 chan in every room DIY with integrated home audio with music server FTW. =)

Well the BIB's running off of 25W is damn near enough for volume and of course everyone wants the low end. so I thought, the maggies can handle up to 300W so I would assume they get louder then the current BIB's (yes I know assuming is bad lol) and why not stereo subs since everyone is so gah gah over sub notes. I'm trying to come up with an idea that can handle movies, satisfy the party itches and still be something thats a pleasure to listen too when I sit down to some Miles Davis, or whatever I may be listening to. Oh yeah, and the budget is not too big lol Different needs. I am concerned, really concerned that with 100w the Maggies won't cut it and that I will need a new amp. Shucks However, I wouldn't make the assumption that you are making, in particular if you designed some big arse things with those goals in mind. The Maggies will be great for the Miles, but perhaps the movies and party itches aren't there thing. They will be in the living room in our house that has no tv and just a lot of seating I would set up maggies the same way, or in a dedicated 2 channell room.
