Welcome to the IHoP v.2
I don't know if T-Mobil would be good for the sled trails. Take me with and we can see if I get service.

We both know I would rather have the 70-200 for every shot. If only I never needed a wider lens, I would be happy :-)

I also feel that the I SO was way too high for that pic. If I could have got the 24-70 in the position I got the 50mm in, and I could have had a longer exposure it would be an AMAZING shot. In this case, it's just good with some artistic flair.

You have the assessment 100% accurate. The cigar should be in focus, IMO also. Handheld, and crap light. The camera was actually held over a drain while laying on the ground.

Confused Matt is confused.Sorry, posting from phone IS - stabilizationNope. But pics like this wouldn't have been possible with IS as a replacement for the wide aperture. In my case I just question how much better. ie, 2.8 with IS (3-4 stops better) would mean in low light my f/2.8 IS is as good as my 1.4 without IS. When you are in situations where you are fighting shutter times IS is super helpful. I haven't tried both but have taken handheld shots with only a fire as a light source. Why is the cigar out of focus? At 1.2 some things had to be out of focus. I feel I get maybe 2 stops from IS. So helpful in handheld. It isn't instant though. As you know it takes a fraction of a secong to get it going. So while walking around in horrible light I like wider.

Grab your gear and just shoot. I have put out 20,000 shots this last year I bet. 10,000 just practice shots. Didn't bother to upload, just format the card after I took the shots.

This is our host in Rome. It was about 10pm, only one incan light to cammera left and up, the rest was back lit. Not a great picture, but it shows the ability of hand held with the 50mm really wide open. I didn't mess with the WB even here.

All of these are right out of the camera and converted to jpg BTW. Only white balance has been adjusted. I have more that look great, but these posts are more to show the possibility of any given lens.

How is the rural coverage around here? That could be better. In the twin cities it's a god, in the boonies, it's not as epic.

I sincerely love T Mobil as a provider. I pay less than almost anyone I know, have 4 lines, and I set data on fire. 30gb some months and it's screaming fast.

Walking around at night with the 1.2 is heaven. I will post some shots that I could not have made without it. Other than that I agree. The 1.2 is artistic. The 2.8 L lenses are absolutely amazing.

Depth of field is all too short in these. I get dizzy looking at them. Could use that short I think if you changed them so it wasn't the center of the picture that is in focus. I am by no means an artist and only talking out my ass, but what you have shot there is exactly what frustrated me completely about the 1.4 50mm that made me nearly throw it away (to ebay). Most of Aidan's baby pictures have one eye in focus and nothing else DOF is a great tool for telling a story, but you have to get the whole subject in focus and off center. Ha! So awesome. The entire point of that series was to shoot only in 1.2. It was a challenge I gave myself. I'm doing a project where I photograph a meal every week, and I'm going to give myself a weird photo challenge with it. This time I decided to only use 1.2

Mess around with you 50mm at 1.4 in video. It's extremely useful for night time shooting. Your DOF in video is much different in practice that while shooting stills. If you are filming them really near field it might matter. I made a video of a little girl spinning in circles at 3.5 on the crop and she was just feet away. The T4i held and tracked her the whole time. If framed better it would have been a cake walk in manual.

This is a good example of how stopping down to 1.2 can help. Of course, if I had a tripod it wouldn't be as awesome. I find I whip out the 1.2 when I want to take pictures of friends. Candid, evenine and nights, or indoors. Just catching the moment.
