Surprised at what?It was far from a recommendation to do it. Implementing a 4 way active setup isn't trivial and mounting locations and other constraints make it a bitch. Can be done effectively. I've used a ton of PA drivers in my life, but always thinking about the application at hand first and not following some idiot recommendation on the web. If you were surprised at my Blues comment, I thought I would just make ridiculous judgemental claims to mimic your own. Of course, in my case I'll stand by mine but it has nothing to do with the drivers themselves but the bullshit marketing machine and retardedly brand loyal consumer base. They aren't special drivers...not unlike most PA drivers. In application of course they can be used, but as a fit for all they are as big of a pucking joke as Pro Audio drivers. Raw drivers are dumb. They will only do what you make them do. Using them out of context will result in less than stellar performance. Doesn't matter what the driver is this holds true. The sad part with PA drivers is that I haven't seen a good implementation of them ever posted on a car audio forum by their owner. Look man, I came back after the initial post and tried to say I wasn't jumping on the guy. If he wants to do it, then fine. I stated it was only MY OPINION and he could choose to let it influence his decision or not, simple as that. I hate pro audio drivers. That's ME. It's apparent you hate the brand Blues. Fine. But, you then go on to make a statement that indicates their customer base is retarted. Whatever man, I don't have the time nor the energy to sit here and argue with you. You like what you do, I like what I do. We can leave it at that, if you think you can? I don't make personal attacks on individuals or anyone customers' base. Reading comprehension eludes you. Google adjective. On top of that the only way you can take that personally is if the shoe fits. Like with anything stereotypes don't apply to all, but if you felt it personally then perhaps a mirror is in order. I don't believe Blues Audio drivers belong in an automobile.Misconceptions keep flying. Inherently a pro audio driver is still just a driver. When used in an application that highlights its capabilities the results can be great. Two difficulties with the implementations you see in car audio. -With efficiency comes a narrow bandwidth -it's only morons who generically use them. Completely forget to think about the application and instead just buy a driver and use it WAY out of its strength. ie, they forget the first difficulty LOL. I am really surprised!!!!

I certainly don't mean to slam anyone. I apologize if it came off that way. Even though I hate pro audio drivers and don't believe they belong in an automobile (previous comp winners noted and excluded), that's just me. If anyone wants to use them, I say go for it. I'm a firm believer in using what one wants and what sounds good to me, may not sound good to you. I was just stating my opinion. The OP may choose to let my opinion influence his decision or not. Either way, I'm good with whatever he chooses, so long as he likes it, its all good.

Absolutely. IMO, there is no way I would invest in something from Zed to use on pro audio drivers, just doesn't make sense. I'm not going to hide it, I HATE pro audio stuff. It's for the clubs, and that's where it needs to be. If you are going to use a quality product like Zed, please consider a nice set of components. I believe in the end, you will be much happier. Since I know how Blues guys like to promote competition success......RC's Buick GN which went undefeated as well as winning the most $$ in competition history used all pro audio speakers. Eldridge, Harry Kimura, Doug Winkler (Phd in acoustics), etc etc.....all used pro audio mids and/or subs and I think we'd agree did pretty well in competition The genre of speakers isn't the problem. Just like any other type of speaker, the problem is when people use them incorrectly, for the wrong reason, and use low quality low performance speakers. Yep, aware of the pro audio drivers that have won competitions. I think we could agree those people had a high level of knowledge and experience, ie. ......they knew what the heck they were doing. Much different than your everyday guy that decides to use pro audio drivers. Sure, we Blues guys like to promote competition success. I'm sure most that compete would, regardless of what equipment they use.

I've always sealed off my boxes from the trunk when facing forward. I've tried many ways back in the day, and this setup is what sounds best to me, which is what I'm always after anyway. I've visited the local fabric, upolstery, or craft store and purchased 2 in, 3 in, or 4 in. thick foam, depending on the space I need to fill. I get a piece big enough to go around the box and seal the sides, top, and to the back of the back seat. If your seats fold down and you plan on showing it, you could add some carpet, a trim board, etc. I've always just trimmed out the area right around the sub/subs, and port if applicable. That way, I get foam up against the back seat brace, if there is one there. Good luck!

If you haven't already, try looking over www.the12volt.com. There is quite a good bit of info on there, including calculators, T/S parameter explanation, etc.

Sub enclosure, holes filled, sanded, sprayed in a couple of coats of clear, and covered in trunk liner. Still needs to be ported, but have to put it in the car and take some measurements.

He was right the first time. Have you ever seen how fast Alton works? He flies right through builds. LOL!! Sure. That's why I still have the 10" XCON (and PR's), 15" DCON, and 15" ICON sitting in their shipping boxes unused. One bit of good news, I did finally start assembly on the box for the Jimmy (using the $90 Baltic Birch) again. I may ACTUALLY get it done and installed before the end of the year this year. LOL $90 Baltic Birch? You going to stain it? If not, why it over MDF? Just curious.

As several others have stated, I would ditch the idea of speakers in the rear and spend the extra money on better ones for the front. Also, as others have stated, what sounds great to one may not work for the other. And...install has a LOT to do with it. I personally don't think listening to speakers in a shop, on a sound board, is an accurate representation of how a speaker will sound in a car. Let's face it, cars are not the best environment to try and get great quality sound out of. It's something many of us strive for. If you have friends, or can get to a show, try to listen to as many sets in a car/truck as you can. It may help in your decision. Good luck!! Sorry, by the way, I think I saw mention of it earlier. If you are looking for nice sound, I personally wouldn't purchase any components that have "super tweeters" or pro audio drivers in them. They may get really loud, but sound like, well....you get the point.

150hz?? Yuk. I guess to each his own, but I have never run a LPF that high. I can't stand the sound. Sounds like someone tapping on the woofers instead of SUB bass. Again, that's just me. I wish you good luck in whatever route you decide to head.

Working on the sub enclosure some today. Will be .55 cu. ft. per side, have double baffle, tuned at 25 hz., and ported through package panel. Two 8" Blues Iso-kits will be mounted on outside of enclosure.

I can't see the review for some reason. However, I am interested in knowing what people who have used it think. I've been looking at it for some time.

Only my opinion, and I'm sure I'm in the minority. This subwoofer stuff is getting out of control. It seems as if everybody and his brother is coming out with "their own" sub. Seems like one is stumbling over the other to try and top every one else. I don't know, just all seems a little ridiculous.

Managed to get around to taking a couple of pictures. Still haven't permanently mounted them yet. Tossing around a couple of ideas of exactly how I want to do it, for looks and function.

Finally got the tweeters like I want, I think. Covered them in black vinyl to match the factory sail panels. Will post some pics later as soon as I take them.
