  1. I certainly understand you point OP. I know I don't have to tell you this, but do what you like. It may be good, it may be bad, but no one has ever evolved by doing the same ole. There have been many great ideas come about from someone trying something off the wall or just different. As previously stated, you should be able to locate a switch like you are looking for from any parts house, Autozonoe, Advance, NAPA, etc. They usually have a pretty good selection and I'm betting you can probably find one in blue. Also, as someone previously stated, I don't think I would put a switch on the speaker wire itself. If you have the option, I would put it in the circuit with the remote wire for that particular amp and just turn off the amp. Even though it will work on the speaker wire, its just something I don't consider a good practice. Best of luck on your project.
  2. Nice install. I really like the detail and pictures you give. Just a thought, I've always put some kind of protection on my power wire anytime I have had to run it outside the vehicle. Sure, it may not be necessary, but its for my peace of mind. In the past I've used a clear PVC type material that was just a little larger than the outside diameter of the wire. I run the power wire through it and then installed it. Turned out pretty nice. I've also used flex loom, but to me its not as good as the other. I feel your pain on the screwdriver bit through the woofer surround. I've done that twice in my life of installing. I've sworn no more. I now put my enitre hand around the bit and screw. I figure if it slips off it will damage my hand, not the woofer. My hand will heal. Keep up the nice work.
  3. Dang, I should have waited I though I was the only one that kind of thing happened to.
  4. Hey man, thanks. Yeah, working on it, just slow go. I'm going to try and make one of those upcoming shows, Lebanon, TN or Florence, AL. Hopefully will see you there!
  5. Driver's side tweeter mount starting to take shape, doing some test fitting, think I'm going to cover it in vinyl. Got the passenger side 6.5 in, will work on the tweeter for this door next.
  6. Started today on the driver's side tweeter mount. Going to attempt to locate in the sail panel. Didn't get a whole lot done, too windy and cold for me. I'm ready for Spring.
  7. I'm not an SPL guy, however, I do appreciate what you guys do. Looks like a solid enclosure build. I have to ask though, even though you say the BL was flowing, what in the heck happened to that speaker?
  8. There are head units that can run hot, but it does seem to be a little odd for it to run THAT hot. Do you have a multi-meter? I would double check the factory speakers and make sure they are not less than 4 ohms. Probably not, but just to be sure. I would then check speaker wires to ground to make sure there isn't a short. Of course, do this with power OFF. Factory speakers and factory wiring can be funny sometimes.
  9. A little more work completed. Passenger side door ready for the 6.5 and made up some cables to replace the factory grounds. I've installed them in the car, just don't have any pictures yet. Will get them up soon.
  10. Was able to get a little work done today. Hopefully get the passenger side completed tomorrow.
  11. No, I haven't. Didn't even know it existed. Does it come in a dash kit or something?
  12. Thank you. Yes, I'm planning to run 3 Blues Iso-Kits, two 8 in. and one 10 in. I already have the drivers, just need to put them together. That is, unless I change my mind between now and time to install.
  13. Starting a build log for my 1995 Cadillac Eldorado. Will use Pioneer Head Unit, Blues speakers, and Linear Power amps. Working on it as I have time, will update as often as possible.
  14. Thanks everyone! I will definitely stop by from time to time and keep my eye on this site.
  15. Hello all. I've been a member of the CA-F for some time. With the new banner at the top I've seen there are other forums out there. So, decided to join a couple, including this one. So far, so good. They layout is very nice.
  16. I briefly tried one of the Hifonics Class D amps a few years ago. I did not like it at all and ended up sending it back. I didn't think it was making advertised power and I certaintly didn't like the sound quality. Its possible they have improved over the last couple of years, I haven't tried any since that time. I'm an old school guy. If I were looking for an amp and I was on a budget, I would probably hit the Bay and try to find a good, old school amp in nice condition. You can usually find some good deals if you are patient and really look. Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
