Building my first ported box
I hope you are as picky with your women as you are your car audio...but then maybe your eyes aren't as sensitive as your ears

Building my first ported box
......perfectionist. Do you drill through the MDF for it? That stuff splits easy....

Building my first ported box
Sounds good, would a 3" wide piece of 3/4" be a sturdy brace?

Building my first ported box
Yep, Admittedly I forgot to check SS's recommendations for box sizes and as Sean pointed out, I only need 1.5-1.8 cu ft. This should be attainable with 3/4" MDF. I'll probably do a PVC port because of the complexity of fabricating the MDF port over the hump so I guess the last question is, will I need to brace the 3/4" at all?

hmmm...JVC I think

Building my first ported box
Well no thanks to Kent who wouldn't sell me his subs, I have finally gotten my amp and sub (assuming all deals go through) JBL BP1200.1 and a RL-P12 D4. Now it's time to focus back on the box. Sean, Kent and anyone else who knows what they are talking about....I need you guys to fight it out over what sacrifices I need to make on the box. Between MDF vs PVC ports: PVC is way easier and I guess will take up less volume inside the box, MDF is ...ummm better maybe? 3/4" vs 1/2" MDF: If 1/2", should I brace? Maybe I can brace the outside of the box across the back? I will be fiberglassing the hump to get a touch more space Kent, can you give me your dimensions when you get a chance?

RE SE, IDQ, Others?
I have brand new DIYMA 12's I'm trying to sell. I hear 500-600w might be overkill for that too but they fit into some tiny boxes supposedly. I'll let someone else takeover if that's a good sub for you or not
-
Why do they sound like butt?
Yea, I personally have not heard it in a while but I remember it being a high pitched hum or squeal. Next time I get home I should have another amp to try out as well

Why do they sound like butt?
Well my brother was called in on emergency so I was unable to check out his setup. Unless he is able to scrap together some time himself to check things out, I won't be able to check things out for another two weeks. In the mean time, wanna take bets on what the problem is? -bad battery -need to wire out of phase -amp clipping -bad wiring -ground

Looking for a sub that will work well in a small sealed enclosure.
idea for at least a temporary box. I built this one for a 10" and it has about .7 cu ft and as you can see, a better build could get you a few more, not to mention you might get away with 1/2" MDF or fiberglass to reach or even break 1 cu ft

Why do they sound like butt?
Not a normal box the drivers are mounted 180 from each other, which by nature means some wavelengths are in and some are out of phase and damn right inline with each other. I'd start out of phase and then try in phase but either way depending on the box the response will change. Sounds good guys. I'm headed to his house this weekend so I'll try out everything that has been recommended. not sure on the head unit by the way, looks like i really should have just thrown one 10'' in there. Oh well....live and learn

SSDs vs Qs
I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I need to buy used and all the offers that keep coming are SSD's. I heard they are nice with the copper coils but I think I'm going to hold out for something better. Let me know if you choose SSD's and I'll refer you to people that are trying to sell them to me

Why do they sound like butt?
thanks guys, im passing the info along and ill let you know what he says after he tries all this out. what will having the speakers out of phase with each other do to the sound? only one sub hits at a time i guess?

Why do they sound like butt?
well while waiting on sean about this in phase / out of phase stuff.... Kent, any easy way to test if the battery is acting as a good filter or not? I was right about those LED lights too. They are extremely dim unless the motor is running. Yea that sounds like a battery problem, except he put the reg lights back in and they are fine. Led's are 1w and reg's are around 10w i believe.....hmmmmm

2 20" subs. Need a box size ideas.
anyone seen The Italian Job? I wonder if these will blow the clothes off a woman. I wonder how many owners these have had that have bought them, then decided they were too impractical and said screw it and threw them back on ebay. I like the return policy

Coaxial vs Triaxial vs Component
Even then, prebuilt passives aren't really great... so what will happen, will you hear distortion with coaxials or what? In reality, I could have a midget with a tambourine in my glove box and it will sound better than my Bose
-
Coaxial vs Triaxial vs Component
I understand I can't really ask "ok guys, what sounds the best" because we all have different ears, tastes, and musical preference. But I am going to need suggestions when I really start shopping (not yet, still learning the basics) because I'm not allowed to leave my school's campus mon-thurs and friday is my drive home from school day (from ny to maryland). So really I only have Saturday and part of sunday which I always have packed with tons of other errands. I've heard that 3 ways typically suck so I'll probably rule that out right now. I guess I'll start w/ this question: Can 'decent' coaxials be had at a $200 budget (for front and rears) ? I'm going with a pretty 'bass head-ish' setup with the subs so I'll need something with highs that won't be too over powered
-
Coaxial vs Triaxial vs Component
w/out getting into the high dollar range, are components worth the harder install over co/tri axial speakers? I'm getting my lows (sub) squared away now, I got the Avic D3 head unit, so now it's time for speakers. Currently, I got the stock bose and I'm not sure if I've heard a worse 'premium' set up. I'm going to say I have about $200 to work with for speakers

Why do they sound like butt?
no, he has a 4 door tacoma so there is very little room for anything. It sits on the ground right behind the center console...basically its at the feet of what would be the middle passenger in the back

Why do they sound like butt?
there's a sub on either side of the fox's cheek
