  1. Repost my ass! I ripped the box apart and rebuilt half of it... plus the floor! The grill is functional with big boxes. Smaller or oddly-shaed things can still poke through. But all the grills that offered more protection were just too bling-blingy. I'm more of a minimalist when it comes to grills, so this seemed the best option. (I tried making my own... but... it didn't exactly come out as I had envisioned. ) So yea, if the object isn't tall enough to hit the grill, it'll just slide into the surround. And if it's weirdly shaped, it'll just slide between the rails. You can experiment with different directions (vertical, 45-degree angle, etc.), but each will have their own disadvantages in terms of protection.
  2. Thanks for the kind words, guys!
  3. I first built this box about six months ago. But when I slid in the box, I noticed that the back seat wouldn
  4. This is all we know at current:
  5. I don't believe that they're using the Eclipse baskets. I'd guess that the appearance will be closer to this, but with a shiny dustcap: Mike, are you keeping woven leads for the RL-s? RE doesn't seem to like them, and I've noticed that SI recently switched to unwoven leads in their prototype (unless my memory fails me, their older subs were woven).
  6. Similar to Entasi's cone?
  7. And from the AA website: We actually modeled up our new 6.5 inch midrange in both XBL2^TM and the new technology and ended up with nearly identical results. The 6.5 will now also be built with this non-XBL2^TM technology. I'm not sure that LMT can be applied to a 6.5". If not, this is evidence against LMT as their new topology.
  8. Mine had a much catchier title.
  9. I hate living on the east coast! I wake up to this, and the rest of the world already knows. And here I was trying to be Mr. News Anchor this morning. But I guess you can delete my spotlight moment... *sigh*...
  10. AA will stop licensing XBL^2 in response to a caustic public statement made by the owner of Adire. And their current stock is being sold at a significantly reduced rate. Read the announcement on their main site. http://www.ascendantaudio.com/
  11. Didn't you just buy an Avalanche? Not that I would mind hearing a comparison between the two...
  12. I agree. That page looks great.
  13. Cliffs Notes: oh yes it does. I'm not trying to distract from the fact that it definitely does sound great and can get extremely loud, even when sealed. I'd still love to hear some of the 'supersubs' to compare, though. Right now, my sub resum
  14. Thanks! And it sounds great! I
  15. Well, I do strive for subtlety. Anyway, you don
  16. I just realized that I've never posted this over here. I put it one CA.com a while ago, but it would be nice to copy it onto this board, considering the content. So... This being my first sub box, I was a bit unprepared for fiberglass. Skin allergies and fiberglass fibers/resin/sharp points do not mix very well. Also, it
  17. Thanks for the update. I've been hoping that Ponte and Wiggins will get into a sparring match, but so far nothing. But at least another engineer has voiced his view...
  18. Hopefully he'll send it to someone with an XBL^2-enabled driver of the same cone size, and with similar power handling and box requirements... ...anyone have a Tumult?
  19. For $299, there was absolutely no question...
  20. I'll be the first to vote 4ohms, then. Avionixx AXT1200.2 1200W @ 4ohms
  21. I realize that. But given the way that some people talk, it might be a solvable limitation... eventually. But as it stands now, I'd prefer the choice of two SVC impedances. However, it's beginning to sound as if such a choice might be cost prohibitive.
  22. x17!! Brands like Arc, Zapco, and Avionixx (off top of head, here) give max power at 4ohms. Others, like DLS and Orion (again, top of head), do so at 1ohm. Some, like Tru, give max power at either impedance, depending on the model. Some, like JL and PG have regulated power supplies that outputs the same at various impedances. It's not really something you can generalize... although it sounds like a 2ohm DVC driver would be ideal, hmm?
  23. How's the inductance on that coil?
  24. I'm on the ball tonight. For those who haven't seen it: Pic (on the right) Many more
