Welcome to the IHoP
What? I've never even heard of this. What goes on in your part of the country? Haha.

Welcome to the IHoP
lucky bastard! this week is killing me. wifes parents are both home. all the family came into town and they aren't working... I am though. what's worse is the wife is doing 4 10's for the rest of the year. It just twists the knife in me. Haha yeah, but depending on the office 10 hours in it can be like torture. You wouldn't think it, but those extra two hours at 5-7:00 really drag on. That's why I didn't think I'd like switching to that schedule.

Another which would be louder thread...
I would say just get a single 15". You'll save a bunch of money that way, and I think it should be loud enough.

Welcome to the IHoP
Off today after my 15 hour day on Wednesday. Yay!

haha that made me chuckle.

how to use an oscope to set your gains correctly
Head units clip just like amplifiers, because they are amplifiers as well. Why wouldn't his head unit clip? All do. We set our gains at 3/4 volume because that's about the point that most head units begin to clip. He may be right about 59 never clipping, and he may be wrong. It depends on if he set the gain at 59 with a 0 db tone. Then no, nothing could be louder than that tone and it should never clip. But if he set it with just some random song, chances are another song was recorded at a higher level and it could clip.

Kicker 1000.1 Underpowering a BL 15?
That amp will be sufficient. The sub's RMS is only 1000, remember. There is absolutely no NEED to overpower a sub. I've had 200 watts on my 1000 watt sub before and there was absolutely no difference except the loudness, as Adrian said. But then again, realize that there is a point of diminishing returns. You won't see the same output gain going from 1000 watts to 2000 watts on that sub compared to going from 200 to 400 watts.
-
Downfire formula?
To be a smartass, you calculate the distance from the floor with a ruler. But really, Adrian has it. It obviously needs to be more than the xmax of the sub, but a few inches is good. I'd say basically as much as you can afford to get the airspace you need under the seats, because there will be some sound effects from having the sub too close to the floor, or any surface (even back firing into a trunk for example).

fi sub closest to icons?
The Mag is a pure SQ-based sub. It gets decently loud, but I imagine the Icon gets louder. But I also imagine the Mag has lower distortion. Which isn't always a good thing, a lot of people like the sound of a little distortion, mainly because they're so used to it.

FI BTl spider ripped
It is clear overexcursion. Plus it's not even impossible to damage a subwoofer above tuning with enough power. There are a few ways to damage it.

Does anybody besides me think this dude grossly overpaid if he gave the $1600 listed on the window? http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=29042

New Amp Problems
Try taking the amp out from under the seat, then turn the truck on and let it play. See if it turns off. That'll let you know if it is overheating under the seat. It might have tighter tolerances to trip the overheating protection circuitry than your MTX did. Or poorer cooling mechanisms.

Yes, do that. Whatever you said.

Welcome to the IHoP
define "decent" Oh, I don't know. Not horrible? Works fine, maybe just not all the features? Doesn't need time alignment, 1/3 octave EQ, or anything like that. Ha. We're just adding a sub to stock interiors. I'll sell ya 2200+ for double that. It's not for me, it's for my little brother. He's 16. So not much of a budget. I told him I'd find him amp + wiring for 225. I have a blown amp that I can get refurbished for $150, so that's my fall back option.

Welcome to the IHoP
Does anybody have a decent head unit they'd let go for under $100? Or a 600-1000 watt amp for under $200?

Welcome to the IHoP
Come to Kansas. All the summer you want.

Welcome to the IHoP
I know I will. Maybe not on that day, but opening weekend anyway.

Welcome to the IHoP
That's because you're good country folk. More and more people don't realize that's how people are outside the cities. People are different (*better*) out there. At least in terms of helping people.

you should be used to working with a nanotube zing! haha!

Welcome to the IHoP
make sure you drink 15 to replace it. Yeah, I know I didn't drink enough. I never do. I'm just always work work work and taking care of myself is a 4th or 5th thought. I didn't pee from 10am until about 10pm. That's not too good.

Welcome to the IHoP
Same here. I do too because I love thunder and the spectacle of lightning. Just not when I'm trying to sleep. I can sleep through anything if I want. I usedtocould (stole that from Jeff Foxworthy) back when I was a teenager and in my mom's basement. I could have slept through a tornado. But now I'm on the second story of a thin-walled townhouse, and plus I haven't been sleeping as well lately.

Ported box for 2 12" Orion XTRs?
Wow and they were really 800 watts RMS? That would have been a huge sub back in that day! One of the first big boys. But it's strange that they scaled down the next versions so much? Is that 5 cubes for a pair of 12s?
-
Is this possible?
I don't think you realize the difference in decibels. You're thinking of it like oh, I whisper 50 db so going from 140 db to 190 db should just be like going from not saying anything to a whisper. Only it's not like that. The decibel scale is logarithmic. So while going from 120 to 130 db is 10 times more intense, going from 120 to 140 db is 100 times more intense. 120 to 150 is 1,000 times more intense. etc. There is also a limit to how loud things get naturally. The atmosphere doesn't allow for over I think 194 db? from things like this.

Amp problems! Help please
What impedance are the subs and how are they wired?

Is this possible?
A dude a few years ago, I want to say Nate Munson, but not sure if that's right at all, was hitting 170+ with a single 10". I think it was on an AC mic because it was before termlab days, but whatever. As has been said a thousand times, the install is everything. Equipment is almost nothing.
