Went fishing for like 20 minutes last night and everything was fine until I got my lure snagged on something and had to break my line. Apparently the mosquitoes were waiting for that moment of weakness when both of my hands were busy tying a new swivel on and attacked by the hoards. I was literally shaking because I was trying to ignore the biting/itching for a minute to complete even one loop of the knot. fuck. When is it going to freeze and kill all those motherfuckers.

Stupid Madden Football. I've had it on All-Pro level for a number of seasons in my franchise but I had grown tired of beating everybody 50-3. So I up it to All-Madden, and it's just retarded, I lose every game even to the shittiest teams. I don't know why the computer doesn't just play zone the whole game because it's absolutely impossible to pass against, even the shittiest linebackers turn into superhuman players to run 20 yards in .1 second to intercept a pass. Decent corners pick everything off, and you have .5 seconds to throw before getting sacked. Likewise, your corners turn into retards and can't cover even a fullback, let alone a big time receiver. Too big of a discrepancy between the two levels. It's turning me off of the game.
  4. yeah...........dual 2s.
  5. Weren't those JBL's that said 1000 watts on the cone the........Power Series I think? The GTI, at least the last version I saw, used the spaceship looking basket. Sorta like the Alpine Type R's.
  6. No. But the "level" from SPL doesn't work well when you use S-Q-L or LSQ. Sound Quality Level? Level Sound Quality? No. At least I changed it to loud because that's the meaning behind SPL. At any rate it doesn't much matter, I hate the term and try to never use it.
  7. only because you think S-Q-L is a real term. What is it supposed to stand for? Sound Quality Loud? That doesn't make much sense. maybe Loud Sound Quality is better. They've put a filter on here to change it to LSQ when you post so as to stop the spread of the term.
  8. But how much does a sub stage actually affect the overall score? I've never competed in SQ so I don't know what all they look for, but at the comps I've been to where SQ judging took place the overall SPL of the system added to the score. So I don't know if just having loud subs evens out the score from them not sounding the best. I agree that there isn't a lot of difference in subwoofers so none can really innately be called an SQ or SPL sub. However, I think there are certain factors about each individual sub that leans it one way or the other for in-car use. Box required is one I can think of. If a 12" sub needs 8 cubes to have a flat response it may not be the greatest choice for an SQ application in a vehicle if that much space is not available. Those subs also tend to have a large peak above tuning in a ported box (recommended size for in-car use), which makes them louder for that range and the SPL tag gets put on. Some subs just don't play low very well, so if your definition of SQ is a flat response from 20 to 80 hz, they may not be able to do it easily in a car. And as we all know some subs are designed for SPL use with huge everything to be able to take a lot of power, which sometimes tends to not allow for an easy good response curve either, or just a different sound in general due to the higher moving mass and Le. But with all that said, I'll reiterate that with proper box design nearly all subs should be able to achieve a response curve that fits your definition of "SQ." Plus it's much easier to label a sub an SPL sub if the manufacturer recommends a box that's 3 cubes tuned to 42 hz or something (I think Kicker at least used to do that for their L series subs), which obviously is going to have a limited response range and be very peaky. But if they want to draw in the kids who just want to get loud, that's the way they market it.

half day at work today, yeehaw!
  10. You could, but it would be a waste of time and money. If you put the 18 from like 0 to 30 hz it would hardly every play anything because barely any music goes that low, so you may as well just use the 12. And you can only go up to 60-maybe 80 hz with either driver, and the 18 will easily handle that, so no real reason to have a 12 to go any higher. It just doesn't make sense to have two drivers split up to play only 80 hz total of the music spectrum. It would be much more favorable to just choose either the 12 or 18, then build a 3-way component set up front, because in that case the 8" midwoofer would play 60-300 hz or whatever, and sound much better doing it.

Are you sure it isn't seized? My gf seized her engine from lack of oil. Oh i just saw you said it cranked but wouldn't start. guess it's not seized.
  12. Never really thought about it. I'd have to order another port from PE to do that. I guess I'll just see how this turns out first.....and if I don't like it I'll build another one with longer ports and have them stick out the top. or you could just go to your local hardware store and buy some 3" PVC in like a 5 foot section and just cut it down to what you want, then stick the ends from the aeroport on it.
  13. I think there are many misconceptions about college. Many think it's only for rich kids or whatever. False. Rich kids actually get penalized for being rich. If you fill out a FAFSA form, one of the things on there is to list how much money your parents make. If they make a lot, you won't get as much or any financial aid. The system is set up to help poorer familes get a child into college. Also, kids may just not know about scholarships. There are a TON of them out there. The university you choose will give you a lot of money if you have good grades in high school, have a good ACT/SAT score, and/or graduate in the top couple percent in your class (there's another kick in the butt to get young people motivated in high school). Student loans aren't the worst thing in the world, either. If you aren't a jackoff during college and actually have a part time job (even just during the summer like I had for a couple years) instead of getting plastered every night and running your debt up higher, student loans can be very reasonable after graduation even if you only manage a mediocre job right out of the gate. Second thing about college is that lots of people come out of there without the ability to get a job and wonder why. Hmm, maybe it's because you graduated with 4000 other kids who got a psychology degree from your ONE school? How many across the country do you think that is? Many majors are nearly worthless in the real world outside of university research. If you do get a psychology, communications, sports management, etc. degree. you will almost HAVE to go to graduate school and get a masters or PhD to separate yourself from the thousands of others just like you. But if you get an engineering degree you can basically get a job the instant the diploma is handed to you. I graduated with a degree in Geology, one of I think 3 people at the entire University of Kansas that got it that year. I got a job offer from the first place I applied. With that last paragraph said, it is still important to do what you like, obviously. But you have to realize the facts about your major. It may take more work in your college years to get a degree in electrical engineering, but it may take a lot more work years after college to succeed with a psychology degree.

    bastard
  15. quoting so we all read it again in case we missed it. Different speakers inside play different frequencies. and even if you built the same box for both subs, say 2 cubes @ 32 hz, they will still sound different because they respond differently in that size and tune of box. It may take the BTL a 2 cube @ 32 box to have the same frequency response as the Kicker at 3 cubes @ 29 hz, or something.

That is not a skill that chicks want. They want nunchaku skills or computer hacking skills.
  17. How would they drown each other out? Wouldn't one have to drown out the other? and......no. don't do it. They sound and behave differently.

These last few nights have been amazing (weather). Freakin' beautiful, man.
  19. why not make it smaller and save space since obviously you don't have much to begin with back there?
  20. Yep, I had the same viewpoint but just in slightly fewer words.

having a nice little storm this morning. Rode my bike to the store last night. Great thing about that is that hot girls are always out walking with their dogs or just running in the evening, and they always smile at you. I even got smiled at by an attractive middle-aged lady in a convertible Benz.
  23. Does it crank easily when you start it but just not turn over or does it have a slow crank too? If it cranks but just doesn't start it's not a battery problem and could be starter, fuel delivery, etc. Slow crank is indicative of not enough electrical power. Is your voltage where it should be?

I did a Momentum article on an M3 with the full Dinan package with that exact Powerdyne. I just went to look and my old Photodump account is dead, or I have long forgotten the password. In addition, I checked on CS.org and the server is busy so I cannot link the article. Wrote it some 4 years ago, but still applicable in this instance. I miss writing for Momentum, in a way I would like to restart the Mag. I know Neil enjoys writing, and maybe we could get a few others to bring it back to life supported here. I know AudioJunkies is there for a reason, but maybe bringing back Momentum which was more focused on the average experienced audio and automotive nut on the net would be worth it. I'd love to see your article. http://forum.carstereos.org/momentum-magazine-f82.html Not sure which edition it is.
