  1. It doesn't look like it's sucking in. It's just from more excursion. Notice how on the low notes there is that downward crease in the surround? It's the same in the high notes, just larger amplitude. As for the sound, I can't hear it really well because I have to keep my volume down here at this training place I'm at. Are you sure the sound is coming from the sub and not something else, like the box jumping up and down on sheet metal, or resonance of the box? Could also be an air leak, so keep checking for those. If you can, play the sub with the box outside of the cabin so you can freely move the box around and check all joints easier.
  2. 38 hz is still real high even for music in-house IMO. 30 is as high as I would go (agreeing with M5). as for the ports, you'll likely have to make the box larger to accommodate the port and keep the internal volume for the sub the same.
  3. did pretty well with the more complicated design. those are some pretty beefy mids. did you do those door panels custom with the red? that looks pretty awesome. and you really need to clean out your garage.
  4. they are pretty much revamped as far as I know. they now use xbl^2 and are geared more for SQ than ever before. power handling is a little less. I'm sure they can still keep up in the output department, though. Their older lines have been arguably the best mix of SPL and SQ in the business and I doubt they would throw output totally out of the window.
  5. I'm not familiar with kenwood's new model line, but if it's not the top model line (Excelon), don't get it. All of their lower lines have been average at best in the past.

low pass at 60-70 I'd say. bass boost off (so frequency doesn't matter). turn the head unit up as loud as you'll play your interiors, then turn the gain up until the sub reaches maximum potential without stressing, sounding bad, etc. Some others will tell you to use an o-scope if you have one.

Both Joshes (99ta & Laine)...Greer...Claudia... Loyd's posted here but has since disappeared... don't remember if talnlnky is here. and member02. both of them may have moved on in life though. and nismo.
  8. play some music or a tone and just go around the box, looking and feeling for leaks. some people use baby powder or the like to kinda sprinkle around the edges and see if they blow out.
  9. what amp do you have and what are the settings tuned to? Also, check for air leaks on the box.

none really. It will break in by itself no matter how hard you push it.

the ones i've heard of don't work. look at threads at gassavers.org, some people have tried it there and made long threads. I just joined there a week ago.

If the Corvette engines are so great with their 2 valves/cylinder as far as price/performance/hp/etc., why are most cars made with 4 valves? Or if 4 valve is better, why doesn't GM put 4 in there? Maybe just to be different like the Hemi engine?

One reason why I like it a little more

not feeling it I am. Pretty tight.
  15. a box that's too small won't make the sub "suck in." that has nothing to do with it. It's in the signal chain if anything. can you post a video?
  16. 750 watts if the impedence is right. 1500/2.
  17. I was wondering the same thing. Usually if you can't get it rewound it's because the alternator case is already stuffed with wire as much as it can be. No more wire = no more power generation. If you plan on blowing your eardrums out with it turned up all day, get the larger alternator.

Ported will be ok if you wanted to try it. But I would go sealed.

man even on your eyelid, ha.

    that depends on the box.
  21. 8 guage is pretty unnecessary. But you can shave off strands to make it fit. I wouldn't drill.
  22. what kind of performance do you want

Yeah eat more! Probably going to put on the level B suit today. Level A tomorrow. Kinda sucks, I wish I'd do the level A today since it's cooler. I'm going to fry in that thing tomorrow.
  24. that prefab ported box is probably tuned to 40 hz or something like that, hence the no lows predicament. Build your own and tune it to 30-32.
  25. Then he wasn't getting full power out of his amplifier. larger amps pull more power, period. efficiency won't be a huge difference in those amps.
