whew, this board is quite a bit faster than I thought. I've only been gone for like an hour but already like 20 new posts. I'll have to get used to that.

Sports
just curious about what sports people are in to and what teams they like. Personally I'm on cloud 9 since KU just won the basketball national championship (I graduated from there in December)! And before that the football team won the Orange bowl! I play basketball 3-4 times a week at the rec gym on campus and I tried out for the KU team my sophomore year. Though that's pretty meaningless unless you make it, right? ha. But it was awesome getting some instruction from Danny Manning. I follow the Atlanta Braves. I was hooked since the mid 90's when I found every one of their games on TBS. But now that Ted Turner decided to make some changes they aren't on really at all, and that sucks. I don't like to watch much NBA because I don't think it's very good basketball for the most part, but I like the Phoenix Suns now because they have Shaq. I've followed him his whole career (have a poster of him being the number 1 pick), so I have old Magic, Lakers, and Heat stuff, and just picked up my first Suns shirt/shorts. ha. in the NFL.....I don't really root for many people in particular. I've lost interest in my home-area KC Chiefs. So I just like watching good teams that are fun to watch, like the Colts, Patriots, Packers (always been a fan of Favre, too. but now he's gone so who knows how that'll go), Vikings (I knew Peterson would be a stud from his days at Oklahoma and was just waiting for him to get his chance to break out early this last year), etc. used to like watching the Falcons for Vick, but now......yeah obviously not.

Earthquake!!!
dang. I want to be in a smallish earthquake like that. We don't get many in Kansas. i'm a geologist, so, you know, these things intrigue me. can't help it.

Welcome to the IHoP
I'm so happy it's Friday. I get to go fishing tomorrow! I basically go fishing every weekend now in the morning hours.

Work... what ya do and for who?
Research Assistant for an aquifer study for the state geological survey. Basically just input data onto a computer and sometimes make cool looking images. Only on a term contract, though, so I'll be looking for something else in about 2 months.

Not a newbie, just switching sites
Hello all. I'm not new to this board, I think I registered like 3 years ago, but haven't visited since August 2007 says my last login thingie. I just feel the need to pick a new online community since my "first love" of soundillusions.net/carstereos.org is down again. And so is forceaudio.com, though that one has never gotten much attention and only a very small core group. My reason for picking this board was highlighted by the fact that it was home to Stereo Integrity, but now I see they're moving to their own place. doh. Oh well, I'm still really just after staying somewhat up to date on new stuff and chatting with/getting to know folks. And this board has a ton fewer morons than those humongous forums, which I couldn't keep up with anyway since they have like 1000 new posts a day, which are half garbage that you just have to sift through anyway. I won't be buying anything new for the foreseeable future, and my SI D2 is still running strong and i have no plans to "upgrade" it. I'm happy and satisfied with what I have and I'm becoming less and less of a loud-music-in-the-car fanatic and more towards loud-music-in-the-home fanatic. Now I just need to save up my money for a down payment on house with a basement I can turn into a HT so that I don't bother the neighbors in my townhome (which I'm lucky in my position since our apartments are 4 in a row to a building, and I'm on the end with nobody in the second position on my side for the last year. So I have a "buffer" zone for the rest of my building's occupants )

Welcome to the IHoP
I hate ball joints, they always go out.
-
box for the Mag D2
that's quite a bit. I'd just use .2 cubes.

Welcome to the IHoP
haha that's hilarious.

You want audio? This is pretty flippin' crazy!
holy cow. I hope his drivers are waterproof, and he'll have fun mowing his grass around those things. That's the most outrageous project I've ever seen. what balls one has to have.

box for the Mag D2
yeah, my use of winISD has degenerated into mainly just the port calculator. it used to be my Mecca for all things speaker. Then I learned things.
-
My someonewhat of a rant.
Ever since the sale the RE forum there has been decreasing in thread/post volume. hmm........
-
Just got my D2 now I need a design MONEY INVOLVED!
your measurements look ok, except I get .37 as the volume of the upper left portion. All that means is your box is tuned to 31.5 hz instead of 32. Not a big deal.
-
Aveo + SI mag vids!
Well I know at least the older D2's give one of the flattest response graphs I've seen in a ported box of reasonable size (around 4 cubes for my 15) and tune (30-32 hz). But it seems the impedence spikes a little harder than most, giving larger power variations. How would you rank impedence, port loading (and woofer firing direction), vehicle characteristics, etc. in terms of affecting frequency response?

what's the height? 13.5" outside?
-
Aveo + SI mag vids!
that is interesting. To what would you attribute that to? vehicle characteristics, box impedence characteristics, other?
-
Aveo + SI mag vids!
Dang, 131.5 in driveby and 149.5 at only 35 hz? you are very good at what you do.

JL w7 12" vs SI D2 12"
any grill will work, you'll just have to raise it up off the front baffle with some spacers. might look a little goofy, but.......... weigh the pros/cons of having a protected driver if you need it.

1 or 2, 12" D2 mags?
2 ohm stable amps aren't inherently more expensive that 1 ohm stable amps. .5 ohm stable amps are tons harder to find than 2 ohm amps. Most companies i've seen make a 5-600 watt amp stable to 2 ohms, a 1000-1500 watt amp stable to 1 ohm, then a 2500 watt amp stable to 2 ohms. Some make a 1k-1.5k watt amp optimized at 2 ohms also.
-
1 or 2, 12" D2 mags?
just a reminder if you get 2, you'll need an amp that does its power at 2 ohms, not 1. the 2 ohm DVC design of the Mag lets you wire to 1 or 4 ohms when using a single sub, but when combining with another you can only get .5, 2, or 8 ohms. and 2 ohms is the most popular setup out of that bunch, especially when talking about amplifier output. oh and there will be no difference between the used one and the new one if you add one later, no matter the power the first sees.

so i was at a pawn shop today...
most likely the load was just too low for whatever they were trying to push it with and it kept cutting out to protect itself.
-
Remember this thing?
strapping at 1 ohm should be the same as each amp doing .5. same basic principle as a 2 channel stereo/bridged amp- 2 ohms stereo is like 4 ohms mono. lookin good though, wish I could have 4 mags
