remote wire
Increasing size from that does nothing. There is very little power going down that wire, only about 5 watts, so it doesn't need to be big. None of that power gets translated into the amplifier output or anything so going bigger will do nothing.

Chances are pretty high that it's a short from a stray wire. Look for something frayed. Since your amp turns all the way off I'd pay extra attention to the remote wire.

Ascendant Audio Mayhems?
How are you going to wire the same subs to both .5 and 1 ohm? It can't be done.

Am i wrong here?
Alright. I will find a different tube to use. $1500 is a hell of a lot of money to put into something that some arseho could just drive away... I still disagree. IMO the stock hu is a poor choice (of course depending on which stock hu). What's the budget? A hu significantly better than stock will cost at least $250. Budget would be the deciding factor on whether or not yours will sound better than mine. atleast 250? you can do it for less..decent entry level kenwood's start @ 150ish After my experience with the terrible SQ of the entry-level Kenwood HUs I'll never recommend them.

How to determine enclosure frequency
download winISD. It tells you dimensions needed for either slot or round ports.

Sometimes there are shorts. Maybe you stuck the wire through the terminal too far and it's touching the sub's basket, or the terminal itself is shorting things out. Also check and make sure there are no stray wires either at the sub terminal, at the terminal cups on the box (if you have them), and at the inputs at the amp. Stray wires can cause shorts either by direct contact or arcs if they're close enough.

How to determine enclosure frequency
OK well if you make a box 16" deep x 25" wide x 22" tall you'll have 4.04 cubes gross. BTW, when you say enclosure volume, don't include the port and sub displacement. So your box isn't really 3.9 cubes. It's 3.9 minus sub and port displacement. That's the net volume and what you should use as actual enclosure volume for the sub. Anyways, if you use three 4" PVC ports and make each 25" long you'll have a box that's about 3.35 cubes net tuned to 35 hz. I would have liked to say use two 4" aeroports to save some volume since you're a bit on the small side, but they would need to be 16" long and with your box depth only 16" deep you'd have to put in a 90" bend and I don't think aeroports fit well with regular 4" PVC 90* bends. But if somebody that has done it before can say that they do fit in regular PVC bends, I'd suggest the aeroports. Obviously with the three 4" PVC tubes I mentioned first, regular PVC bend pieces will fit correctly.

So the amp is all the way off, like no lights are on? Check the fuse and fuse holder under the hood.

Welcome to the IHoP
Pretty tired. Gonna have to go to sleep early tonight since I have to get up at about 5:30 for work tomorrow and it's going to be a 12-14 hour workday most likely. Unfortunately about 10 of it is driving. Although I'm driving with my boss, and the way he drives it may be about 8 hours.

Welcome to the IHoP
Well my brother presented his dissertation today. So I guess he's a doctor now, although he doesn't get the actual certificate or whatever until December. He got it in medicinal chemistry. I went to his presentation today and I was like hmm, I know about 3 words he said during the whole thing. The vocabulary for chemistry is insane.

EXCURSING the Mayhems!!!!!
I think you have too many speakers in that car.

Some songs sound weird. Why?
We still need more information on this "sounds weird" and "should hit differently." Is the tonality just off, does it make any scratching/ticking noises, does it sound flat or make a dull sound when it plays a note? Are you comparing the sound of this sub to a previous one? If so, which one? How do they sound differently?

what is the appropriate wire size?
You can always trim wires off to make it fit into the terminal. That's not a problem at all. Sounds like you have it figured out with 10 gauge though.

How to determine enclosure frequency
Oh my goodness it will be a complete night and day difference on the low end with the new box. If you give us some maximum dimensions you want the box to be we can whip something up right quick.

Welcome to the IHoP
I'm at a point in my life where yes i would miss my wife, but I would RELISH the travel. I love planes, I love airports, I love the motion and the constant sense of being aware and how connected I feel with the whole population when ever I travel. Maybe not forever, but when I was cut, that particular mold was also put out and it's a great match. My wife may think differently though. I bet mini me at home makes it tough too! Travel is fun at first, but eentually you get sick of it. Well maybe once you see the world 8 times over like you have. haha. I still like to travel a bunch. But of course i'm still 25 and havent' even been out of the country yet.

Welcome to the IHoP
I know I don't want to have any dealings with livestock for the rest of my life. My dad is trying to encourage my grandpa to get rid of his cattle. has been for like 5 years. They are easily the worst part of farming and take the most out of you. Having them calve in the winter like he does is especially hard. But for some reason my grandpa just won't fully get rid of them. But my dad says when he takes over the farm in a few years those damn things are out of there as fast as he can get semis in to haul them away.

Try also replacing the amp with another and reading the resistance of the voice coils on the sub. Sometimes amps can act screwy when something is blown inside of them and not just be off all the time.

Dual 12" FI BTL In Custom Enclosure Question
So what is the net volume of the enclosure? You say 3.75 counting the vent and sub displacement, but with that wording I can't tell if that's gross or net. There would be no mechanical or electrical problems running the subs on opposite faces. Wouldn't hurt the subs at all. But it probably won't be much louder as you'll likely get some cancellation. If you're going to build a new box anyway you could try it, but I wouldn't count on it being any sort of permanent solution nor would I expect much out of it in the meantime.

Welcome to the IHoP
Good money in that too, in particular if you look at it from an understanding point of view. I had applied for a job with Terracon for materials testing, mainly concrete at new building sites. But they were only paying like $13 an hour. I thought that was ridiculous.

Welcome to the IHoP
Haha! Dammit I don't play a single thing. What should I learn........ Chicks seem to dig guitars, but to me that's overplayed. Maybe if I can get a bitchin' oboe I'd be golden. My boss's teenage son plays the accordion. I didn't know anybody learned that anymore.

Welcome to the IHoP
Boy my basketball team is not good. They got blown out like 80-40 last week when I wasn't there, and we lost like 65-40 this week when I was. Just too many turnovers from bad passes with people either just not being strong with the ball or freaking out when they pick up the dribble and think it's a hot potato or something. That frustrates me a ton.
