avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
I've put a flashlight to the spider and looked thru, and pushed the cone up so I can see the top of the coils and the former. I've then turned the sub and looked at it from every possible angle turning the sub around a full 360 degrees and I can see no rubbing, no interferance, and nothing that looks loose. I'm running with one coil shorted and power to the other set, for a 4ohm load. I'm using the LFE signal from my HT reciever and clean power from a crown K1 Pro amp.

Hows the Denon avr-588 for a first receiver?
Have a look at some of the integrated amps by NAD. C370 is one, (but a tiny bit out of your price range) big power, most with pre-outs for running a sub. Stay away from a 5.1 reciever if you only intend to run 2.1. you're spending your money on processing rather than amplification.

recone kit for Avalanche 15 needed please!
I'm desperately seeking a recone kit for my Avalanche 15. I've had several people suggest that Fi Audio might be able to help me. Scott is a name that has been mentioned on a few occasions as well. Can anyone get me in contact with Scott, or help me find a recone kit? TIA!!!

avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
Well I've blown the driver out thoroughly using compressed air, and the sound persists. It looks like my next step is to take the driver apart, but I'll need to find a recone kit before I'll take this step. I've started another thread looking for one http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=13891 If anyone can help I'd be greatly appreciative!!!

recone kit for Avalanche 15 needed
Hi All The ava15 I'm having problems with isn't co-operating, so it looks like the next step is to take it apart and see whats going on inside, whats making that clicking / tapping sound. In order to do this, I think I'll need to buy a recone kit. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=13630 Anyone out there know where I could get my hands on one? I'm desperate here... Thanks!

Box build for my Havoc 18s.
As stated by someone else, I didn't design it. I am, however, absolutely sick and tired of traditional ported boxes and their lame frequency response. People always say something like "just put it in blah cubes, and tune it to blah hz for a nice smooth response".... well, that IS NOT the case most of the time. Although ported boxes do get quite loud, and sound "ok" sometimes... they do not at all turn out like people say they will just because they plotted them in some crappy box graphing program that only plots the graphs in an infinite environment, and not in a small cabin like a CAR, and can't possibly factor in all the different wavelength phases, and different shapes/obstacles in the way. Also, people are just too ignorant to the fact that there are other types of enclosures out there other than ported and sealed, and those other types of enclosures DO WORK if designed correctly. I love transmission line enclosures. All of my HT speakers are PMC, who are famous for their TL enclosure designs. I'm still in the "decision making" process regarding building enclusures for my Avalanche 15's, (for HT)and had pretty much settled on sealed or simple ported. if theres anywhere to get info on a TL design for Ascendant subwoofers tho, maybe I'll think again!

That is a really fantastic looking enclosure. How did you calculate the parameters ie: lenth / width / height of the lines of the TL? This is a bold move on your part, TL enclosures are alot more difficult to design and build than a simple sealed or ported enclosure! Looking forward to hearing your impressions on the sound.

avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
I've sat and pushed the cone up by hand enough to see a good portion of the coils. I carefully pushed the cone up and then turned the sub by 10 or 15 degrees so I could see the assembly from as many angles as possible, and there didn't seem to be any interferance or rubbing between the coils and the magnet. is this what you mean, or is there something else I can look for?

avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
What makes you say that? what kind of damage? Anything can be fixed. be more specific please. Are the spider and surround attached on all sides? Everything seems to be glued down and not flapping.

avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
We're thinking along the same lines: the guy put them in a huge box with a ton of peanuts. some had gotten up inside the magnet. I cleared all those out when it first arrived. (no easy task) So where else could one be stuck? I've put a small mirror inside the magnet and could see nothing. I've also pushed the cone up and can see the coils, and have looked from all angles, but can see nothing.

avalanche 15" subwoofer driver problem
Yep, they each measure 1.5 or 1.6 ohms. (whew) If you shake the sub, can you hear the coil moving around? Possibly a loose coil. Theres no rattle or anything moving around that I can hear. interesting thing is that the noise you can hear when you push the cone down changes. sometimes its a longer sound, sometimes isolated to a specific region, sometimes it seems to not be there at all. I've inspected this thing a million times from a ton of angles, I'm stumped: there seems to be nothing rubbing, nothing interfering etc. I just keep looking, hoping something'll pop out at me... All help so far is appreciated, please anyone else with ideas speak up!
