  1. +1 I have a 10'' Q in a sealed box and rock sounds soooo good. I imagine in the proper size box the 15'' would sound just has good... probably better. Just make sure you don't go cheap on an amp. I had a Kenwood on my Q for a little while which supposedly put out 900rms... yeah right. I put a Sundown 1000D on it at 2ohms (so about 600rms) and it sounded way way better and louder. You will be happy.
  2. wrong. Ture! ///M5 My Q10 with fawk the brains out of my friends 15'' in the lows. At least test tone lows. I don't have music that plays reall low. But it is proof that "bigger subs hit low dawg" is false in most cases.
  3. I would like to get a few different tones on a CD or something to play around with, where can I find some? Thanks, Mike B.
  4. Yes, but in order to do that you must have an actually midbass setup, haha. And I am talking about highschool kids. I probablly have the closest thing to a real front stage around here with only two polk coaxial speakers in my doors that are amped. Everyone around my town thought I was nutz for buying an amp for my door speakers... untill they heard them, but I still have nowhere near enough midbass. Someday I would like to do an actually SQ setup, but not as a highschool with no money. With that being said, setting the crossover at ~60hz is neccesary for kids that don't have anything but a sub and stock or un-amped speakers. And when you only listen to rap, well, <30hz dosn't come around that much.
  5. sqguyib, im going to have to agree with you in that most of the time is seems like all the kids' sub hardly reach 30hz. My friend has an audiobhan 15'' in a prefab sealed box and a decent kenwood amp. It is loud as fawk in the 50-60hz range but if he plays even a lower rap song like "White Girl" by young jeezey, it seems like the sub hardly lets you know the low note is there where my Fi Q10 with about the same amount of power in a .5 cf hits it just fine. So I don't know what he could have done differently to hit the 30ish range better? ///M5 would you please explain because I would really like to help him if I could. Thanks, Mike B.
  6. My guess is your issue is box related, you shouldn't draw conclusions until you try to fix things. and the fast that its a 10" doesn't help at all, they aren't made to get really low and loud. tight and precise is what they are made for Umm I don't know about that^ But ///M5, you could be very right, but I acctually think my biggest problem is the fact that its in an ext cab truck, the lows are much better with both doors open haha.
  7. Sorry for the nood question, but what does IB stand for? See it used all the time and always get confused.
  8. I don't know, I have a Q10 on an sae-1000d at 2ohms, so probably about 600rms. I'v run it both sealed and ported and I really think it would be better on more power. It is musical as all getout but just lacks the loudness I was looking for in the lows. This is why I plan to add another 10 soon.
  9. Humm... I had not even though of adding another woofer. So the Q on 500 watts will be okay if there is two of them? I def have the space for another as right now, I have it sealed at .6 cubes. I think I could even build a ported box and still keep the use of one of my jump seats. Thanks for your input, Mike B. I just went out to the truck and took some measurement and I figure that I can comfortably get 4 cubes before port, sub and bracing... What do you think?
  10. I will not run my sae at .5ohms. I posted a question about it a while back and everyone said NO don't do it. If it was just for burps that would be different. Anyway, would a jump from 10'' to 12'' really do that much? And I could go with a whole new sub, I didn't really think about that... It just seems like I could save myself some cash by using my motor but i'll keep my options open.
  11. Okay, I'll just stick with the 10'' then, that is good to know because I don't really want to built another box.

Now that I'm working agian, I'm ready to spend some of the money I just made... I have a Q10 and talked to Nick a while back about changing the coils from dual 1ohm to dual 2ohm in order to match my sae-1000D better. My question is: since the sub would be in the hands of Fi for the recone to change the coils, would it be worth it to upsize to a bigger cone as well? such as a 12 or 15? I will run this sealed because it is in an extended cab s10. So basically, will going from 600rms to 1100rms make a big difference or not? Thanks in advance, Mike B.
  13. I really don't know much about audio, but for whats it worth, I put my Q10 in a 1.4ft^3 box that was tuned to 28hz and it played everything I wanted it to. I mostly listen to rock and ska/reggae and WOW. I impressed alot of people because I would play their favorite song that they had heard a million times and they could acctually hear the low bass lines. and by low I mean like 29hz... I pretty sure thats what most bass guitars open string is about at. If I were you I'd tune the box to somewhere in the 28-30 range.

^ No, it means it will sound only a little bit better than the rest, not alot better than the rest. Haha.
  15. Well, first off, what kind of music do you listen to?
  16. (1) Q15 gets my vote, sealed with the BP option.
  17. No, I have a 10'' not but wound see if i could recone it to a 15'' and i think it would be cool to do it myself you know.
  18. Was there a huge difference in output when switching to ported from sealed? Because I only have around 1.5ft^3 to work with and i'm debating between a Q10 ported or a Q12 sealed and I'm trying to figure out the difference in output between those two. Sorry if I hijacked the thread. Not a huge difference but noticeable, expecially on the lows when tuned so low. Truthfully though, if you listen to all types of music, I'd go with the 12'' sealed.
  19. How hard is it to do a recone yourself... just curious.
  20. I got bored with my Q10 in a sealed box so i built a ported box. 1.2ft^3 tuned to 28hz (because I screwed up) and it really is musical and sounds great. the only thing is I tuned it too low so it has an un-natural response curve where the upper end of many basslines in a little weak then WHAM the lows hit and dosent sound quite right. But it plays White Girl by Young Jeezy AMAZING! Id say try it ported, I think you'll like it.
  21. Hey hey, whats wrong with being a 14 year old... that was only two years ago... haha jk. I agree with Adrian_D though, chill out, a couple of days wait itsn't gunna kill anyone
  22. It is pretty much at all frequencies, I'm far from an audio expert so its hard to tell, but I'll try moving the sub around. maybe pointing up or back will help... we'll see.
  23. Okay, thanks guys. So there is really no secretes or tricks. I'll just have to take the doors off. Lol.
  24. btw who is that in your SIG. lol ^ +1 Id like to meet her, and your car.
  25. Ok, I have an s10 ext cab with a Fi Q10, run off a sundown sae-1000D put in a .6ft^3 sealed box. The box is down firing in the back of the cab right in the middle. First off, why does it get soooo much louder when the doors are opened? and second, how do I deal with this? I have been planning on building a ported box but before I go ahead and spend the time on another box, I would like to know if there is anything I can do to overcome the downfalls of a truck cab. Any takers? Thanks in advance, Mike B.
