Solid ported box should always be louder then the sealed one...as they have said may want to try to build a good ported box for your current sub and then if you still aren't happy go from there... Thanks! -Nick

You can make the box a little on the larger side of the spectrum...because you have less power.. 12-16sq inches of area is per cubic foot of volume...so if it's 2.5 cubic feet you can run a port anywhere from 30-40 square inches of vent area (width x height) then make it however long to tune it to whatever frequency you desire...
