question for scott about Fi/SX 12
Probably because that's how you set the gain . The only problem with that theory is that music is totally dynamic.. Gains are meant to match input voltage on the rca leads. Not output voltage going to a constantly changing impedence. By that theory you could have the gain wide open..and still not have a desired voltage (whatever that may be) that your looking for. You don't clip output, you clip input that is then amplified into the output stage of the amp...

question for scott about Fi/SX 12
specs and everything are the same..unless you paid for other stuff to be done then it's pretty much the same as a stock SX Just curious why your setting your amp by the output voltage? The only reason you should be doing that is if you are gain matching multiple amps.. You should be matching input voltage on the RCA's to the RCA voltage on the deck with the gain on the amplifier, not output voltage.

Sealed box for SSDs?
Not sure what tom runs his in..ill ask him later

Aura motor re-cone?
I'll wait for scott to give the definitive answer, but i'm fairly certain that we don't have anything that'l fit. I think they use a very small 2 layer voice coil..the smallest we have is a 4 layer

which 15's??
Nope, but daily driving 1500 watts isnt anything to bat an eye at
-
which 15's??
It's so minute you wont even notice a difference... You don't have enough power for BTL's, you'd probably be well over 2dB down by running a btl with 1500 watts vs. a loaded bl with 1500 watts.

Aura motor re-cone?
The ID is the width of the pole piece? If so i know we can't do it..coil will rub out, not to mention i don't think any stock coils will fit that itty bitty gap anyhow .

Recones for re MT's
I can't quote a price on shipping to you to canada...or i'd tell you how much it is. Gotta wait til Scott gets back Thanks -Nick

Ford Explorer Worklog
You do realize that you don't have the subs screwed in all the way right? Screws are supposed to go all the way through the gasket to the basket and hold it tight there...not sit on top of the gasket. Looks good though -Nicki

which 15's??
IMO, get cooling. They'll be more abuse tolerant. Yes you'll likely loose a few tenths on the mic because of the lesser motor strength...but i honestly think you'd be better off getting the cooling option. 1500w is a lot of power for an extended period of time

Free stuff :)
Haven't decided yet.

which 15's??
Is it strictly for SPL (burps ONLY) or is it for a musical application?
-
which 15's??
Totally irrelevant... Jim hit the nail on the head

which 15's??
Well many people are prone to lack skills of mastering the volume knob . If you plan on beating on them for long periods of time, 1500 watts is a LOT of power.
-
which 15's??
Well, with 1500 watts per sub you may want to entertain the idea of getting the cooling option on the BL's. Generally speaking your looking at a 3-5 day build time, and depending on your location anywhere from 1-6 days to recieve them from ups. (if your in the lower 48) ~2 weeks and you'll have your subs on your doorstep!

SSD or BL
with 1000 watts per sub...you'd be best suited to look into the Q's
-
New to Fi and Got some questions!
Only been 3 hours man . Frequency response between the two are similar..its just a matter of how much power you have to run, how much room you want to sacrifice. The SSD is a lower power more 'street jamming' type woofer The Q is more of a sound quality oriented woofer...with 1000 watts on tap The BL is between the Q and BTL, more SPL oriented with less power than the BTL...roughly 1500 watts is needed/optimal for these woofers. Cone size and accuracy have nothing to do with one another, the myth that a 10 sounds 'tighter' than a 18 is nothing more then that, a myth. Thanks -Nick

Recones for HC's?
Really hard to say, that motor is completely different from anything that we're doing now. A HC is a HC...that's about all it is
-
Recones for HC's?
CIA engineering should be able to help you out on the amp... A recone should be in the ballpark of ~90 bucks a pop...baskets/gaskets are going to be like 38-40 each + ship

Fi 12" Q Box
Mainly accuracy.. .5 cubic feet more volume will yield a little more output, and a little less accuracy... So long as you stick within the guidelines that we've set your in good shape! Thanks -Nick

stiffer spider = more db's?
If your in bass race don't worry about it, farting/burping in spl only scenarios you have to sacrifice the daily driveability of the sub..(no cooling, short flatwire coil etc etc)
-
Fi new basket
No, we're not using any new baskets. That particular person had a old 'claw' basket laying around and they wanted to use it on their sub, so they either mailed it in or got a recone kit for it. Whenever we come out with a new basket it'l be vastly different, that one has the same clearances as the 12 spoke, so there are no real advantages to it other then cosmetics.

How are these subs rated?
Your reading waaaaaay too far into it... We rate our products a certain way, you'll have zero issues at all if you follow our rms recommendations. If you put more power to them, that is at your discretion. We will not say it will or will not take more power than what they are rated at . For example a pair of SSD's and a Sundown 1500d at .7 ohm is a wonderful combonation.
