Hehe.. the "RL" prefix was aimed at playing off a tagline I created when I first designed the concept for SoundSplinter. The tagline being, "SoundSplinter.. an Aural Experience!" Tryin' to do a little play on words there of course, but after reconsidering, it seemed too cumbersome of a tagline to use anyway, which is why I'm sure most people don't see the connection. Anywho, the prefix for the woofers stuck it through for some reason - I guess I just liked the way it rolls of the tongue. But hey, the RL can mean whatever you want it to mean; Real Loud perhaps?
  5. Definitely go with the 1.25 cu ft net sealed measure. The leap graphs would show optimal enclosures of a smaller size just above 0.5 cu ft, but my ear tells me that you'll want to go with the larger size for sure!
  6. I pretty much feel the same way as denim & squeak. While it would be a nice avenue for additional exposure, something has me on my guard. I was approached by Mr. Milne two days ago about this and have been mulling it over since. To make matters worse, this thread has only served to reinforce my initial hesitation in the matter! I'm still up in the air on it, but it may not be feasible anyway since they are using the 1ohm Nine.1 setup and I only have a couple D2's left which have already been requested by customers. Not to mention, all the tests taking place at eD, and half of the test group (even if they won't be judges) are directly affiliated with eD as owner and employee - it just doesn't feel how I'd like it to feel. I'm not trying to say anything about the integrity of the people conducting the test, as frankly their business is their business.. but I am simply a skeptical person by nature and I can't easily change that! Hell I actually think what frightens me most is that perhaps I'm not ready to take such a step into the spotlight yet I like keeping things as simple and as under-the-radar as possible.. but only time will tell on this one. Low-Pro all the way baby!
  7. They'll be sticking 'round to be sure Question is, how long will it take to retool the damn thing? ..But I'll do what I can to make it snappy!
  8. 1200 watts will work with the RL-p (hell, even split between TWO RL-p's ). A little bit of overkill to be sure, but so long as you build a sturdy box to spec and keep all your settings in line, it should make for a very nice setup. Of course, if you are reckless with your equipment and have a tendancy to crank everythin' up to the max... well then I'd suggest a smaller amp to be on the safer side.
  9. > How many 8's do you have in inventory yet? Less than 10, a couple of which have already been spoken for (on one week reserve) - as well as a couple on repair, but who knows how long those will take to come back I'll also make note that I will be offering up a sale on overstock / old inventory drivers here at SSA in the coming week or two. So keep an eye out, there will be some RL-i12's, a few RL-i10's, and an outside chance of perhaps even a couple RL-p12 D2's available.
  10. PM box should be up and running again - had a bunch piled up from my vacation last week that apparently hit the quota. Right now though, it's dinner time and I need to go stuff my face with tasty goodness - but I'll get back to all inquiries asap (most likely this evening).
  11. Greetings all! I'm back in action after my week long excursion to northeastern Europe and I see that the momentum around here has hardly slowed if at all, which I am happy to take as an indicator of the public satisfaction with the products I have offered to the online car audio community over the last year. To all of you whom have taken the admittedly risky plunge in purchasing from a newcomer to the market, I thank you! Also to those of you who have helped spread the word by telling your friends, or even simply by posting pictures of your system on the 'net, I can't thank you enough. So many of you have played an important role in helping get the SoundSplinter name proliferated 'round the web and I can't tell you how happy and appreciative I am for the kindness I've been presented from so many of you But enough with that sappy chit for now, let's get down to biznasty! As I'm sure some of you have come to realize, I am fresh out of both my 12" and 15" Premium series offerings for the time being. I was hoping to anticipate demand and be able to appropriately restock before such dwindling reserves, but in no small part due to so many of your off-hand promotions, I have had progressively busier and busier business months from January '05 through the present day (not that I can complain! ). To compound this inventory problem, I was informed this morning that an international sea freight shipment destined for the assembly plant in San Diego did not include the ceramic magnets that were on order. As a result, there may be an additional 3-week wait before the RL-p series is restocked . We are currently working to find local suppliers that can get us these parts quicker, but the prospects do not look bright at the moment. I will still do my best to get a small run of RL-p's cranked out to satisfy some of the immediate demand, but it will be a grudging process for the next few weeks and for that I apologize, but promise to do everything in my power to fill as many orders as quickly as possible. The good news (Yay!) is now that I believe SoundSplinter to have proven itself as a viable business venture, I am going "all in" so to speak and will be receiving many hundreds of new RL-p's as soon as the magnets do arrive in their appropriate quantity... at which point I truly hope that we will be able to avoid periods such as these with limited to no inventory available. Why am I telling you all this?.. well, I just wanted to keep you all appraised of the situation since I feel free flowing communication is a very important aspect of a sucessful business model, and also like to let you know that if you have any questions, or would like to be notified as soon as new stock is available, simply contact me and I will get back to you asap. Now on to another matter: The RL-i8 This newest offering has been received very well from our first slew of customers, however there are some matters that need to be tended to before further production may proceed. Principally, these drivers were built with in-house parts, the supply of which was exhausted from the production. Since I am currently the only customer that lines up 8" drivers from my OEM, they have not kept an active stock of these parts and apparently no longer have access to the previous supplier. As such, I am going to be outlaying tooling fees to acquire new parts for the driver, which will throw a delay into the subsequent production. I will concurrently be requesting some changes be made in the design of the driver as well - minor things - but things that will increase the resiliency of the driver, and hopefully widen its optimal range of frequency response. These changes will be discussed with the engineers over the next couple weeks so sit tight, and I will do my best to inform you once things are closer to being put into motion. Oh and one last thing: The Supreme Series As many have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of our new Supreme series drivers featuring TC Sounds' proprietary Linear Motor Technology, I feel that I should just drop a note here to mention that progress is being made on the newly proposed machining of the pole piece, and we are still aiming for a public debut in late July. All the parts are ready to go, save for the pole piece which should be ready soon.. so keep your fingers crossed that all goes as planned and we can get this baby out on the market sooner rather than later! As always, with any Q's or whatnot, post 'em here, PM me.. but if you want the quickest turnaround time, best way to get me is through email. Keep on keepin' on
  12. Take it easy on that li'l 2 inch coil, will ya?!! On the whole, I'm very happy to hear your experience thus far has been quite positive They are indeed some beefy little 8's, that's for sure.. unfortunately they may fall out of the public's hands for a short while after the current inventory is gone, which will be explained in an update thread I'm about to make.
  13. The TC9 12 and the RL-p12 are very close in nature. At the time of the RL-p's debut, the principle change implemented was the addition of a second spider on the suspension to decrease the compliance and simply to make the driver more protected against abuse. After the first run, the surround material was changed from santoprene to NBR rubber in order to allow for greater adherance between the cone and the surround, as the santoprene did not react well with the glues we were using and the NBR offered a much better hold. Following that change, the size of the spiders and spacer ring between each spider was modified to allow for a bit of increased movement. In practice, the RL-p's versus the traditional TC9 design offer a similar sound, but are more robust in their construction which allows them to take more abuse with largely decreased failure rates. If and when TC gets their direct sales operation in gear, I imagine they will also employ most of these modifications in their production units as well - at which point the two drivers will be nearly identical save for the cosmetics, but I'd like to think that I will offer more personable support and as always I pledge to do whatever is within my means to satisfy my customers. Afterall, this is my main business, whereas TC is involved with many different projects. Run with the little guy! B)
  14. Truth be told, I have not heard the Uber. Those were being built when I was first getting involved with TC as their web designer LOL! Of course that project got nixed and I ended up working with them as my OEM partner, but unfortunately I have not had the privilage of hearing the Uber myself. Nonetheless, by all the accounts I've been privvy to, it certainly seems like it would be super solid.. and likely to be a little more capable than the RL-p, all things considered (though on that note I'm sure some people would still prefer either over the other since everyone has different tastes ).
  15. Yep as others have said, it is a normal occurance. Good thing we use an aluminum cone too, as a paper cone wouldn't be able to effectively cool the system. It really is an effective heatsink, but indeed you should be careful if it is getting super hot
  16. Spoke wit cha on the phone about an hour ago. What a bummer about the damage! But then.. sh
  17. Too late, the jet lag has already worn off! Nice try though
  18. Mmmm.. seeing some nice stuff in here! Good eye! Indeed, the group buy D2's came with tripple stacked 0.75" magnets as opposed to the usual double stack 1" ceramic mag's. FYI, almost all RL-p15's (except the very first run) come with this magnetic make-up.. but future RL-p12's will probably go back to the double stack 1". Performance-wise, it makes little difference; it has more to do with parts availability and marketing than anything else
  19. !! That is f*ckin' hilarious. Greetin's from Estonia - and I'm out.. time for breakfast. Did you know the sun rose at like 4am here (it's 8:45am now) ?!! This place is messin' with my mind
  20. 1200 watts on a ported enclosure is definitely pushing it. I would comfortably recommend between 400-800 watts on a ported RL-p. Wish I could help you on your box plans right now - but I need to start packin' up my chit for the plane I've to catch in the morning!
  21. It's been waay too busy this week - when I rolled down to TC earlier last week to pick up the special order D2's, that's literally all I had time for (didn't even have time to hit the waves for some surfin'! ) .. Thilo is workin' out the modified pole piece with his machinist at present, and I'm still holdin' on to a release date of late July. Sorry to make it so quick, but I'm scramblin' to get everything in order for my trip to Estonia which begins early tomorrow . I will of course post more when I have more to post
  22. You better be sorry - I almost expired your order today! Good thing you emailed me back so quickly I include diecut stickers in every box.. unfortunately I do not create those huge white vinyl ones myself. As I understood the previous question, arodgers was simply extending the courtesy of asking if he could make one for himself.. which is of course fine In the future I'll have some of those made up - but I have a lot going on at the moment between moving to a new place and leavin' to Estonia for a week come Monday. Oh and if you will, watch my back while I'm away - I'll be gone from the 6th through the 13th and will try to get online, but as I don't speak Estonian, it may or may not be easy ============ Also, an Update on the Group Buy; The following orders shipped today: 20050429-115 20050429-116 20050502-131 20050506-137 Order # 20050429-121 for Jeremy L. is ready for pickup, as noted in an email sent today. Order # 20050505-135 for Jarret P. is delayed for 1 more day, as it is being shipped by an alternate method, internationally, and I don't have the tools to prepare the shipment at my disposal currently (my internet is being lame ). I will get it out tomorrow though for sure - sit tight Jarret!
  23. But of course! How could I complain for free advertising like that?!
