SS Plans
Just playin' things by ear. As I run SoundSplinter on comparatively low margin with respect to most any brand you'll find in stores; it is not likely that I am in a position to offer the price incentives that dealers would prefer in order to make a dealer relationship plausible. This isn't to say I'm against seeing my drivers in stores - but I don't want to jack up my rates by $100 just to make it feasible to do so. In short, I'll be stickin' with the online path for the time being but will remain open to any opportunities the future may bring

Older RL-p's use dual 1" slugs, the newer 15's are using tripple stacked 0.75" magnets. The pictures of the LMT proto's located in the other thread are quad stacked 0.75" magnets, and we're planning on the final production versions carrying quintupled 0.75" magnets in order to prevent any possibility of bottoming out the woofer; in other words the suspension of the driver will limit its travel before it even has a chance to hit the backplate at extreme excursions.

Larger basket assembly + larger magnet structure. We will try to keep the weight as reasonable as possible, so hopefully my above estimates will turn out to be a little high Click Here for some shots of a couple prototype LMT's

Supreme Series LMT Prototype Pictures
I know quite a few of you have been houndin' me for pictures of the new drivers - and I've been hesitant as we continue to refine and play around with different options from week to week, but I figure you've waited long enough and deserve an inside look at what these drivers will be lookin' like when they are finally released this coming summer. However, I will be keepin' ya in suspense on the driver's excursion for now, but will get some nice pr0n for ya'll in the next couple weeks Please note that the drivers pictured herein are still slightly different from what the final production versions will look like - but for the most part, this will definitely give you a solid idea of what to expect. So without further ado, feast your eyes on these beasts The cone: The driver: An older prototype that has been scrapped: The magic: Various LM coil prototypes: For more information on our new Linear Motor enabled drivers, to be known as our Supreme, or RL-s Series line of drivers, please visit the following threads: Linear Motor Technology - A Reference SoundSplinter LMT sub

It may be difficult to tell exactly how much volume some oddly-shaped firewood would displace.. but indeed it would work! Easiest way is to just use some scrap 2x4 or anything really, that you will be able to measure and determine its volume. Then you can just tape it down inside the enclosure and experience the difference.- My Rl-p
> Mike whats the breakin period on these? There is no specific break-in period, per se. Of course, over time the suspension will loosen up a bit, but it is impossible to say how long this will take and what type of subjective modification in the sound will occur. BTW, feeling that you didn't have enough power for a smaller enclosure makes me chuckle - considering that you have 500 watts, and these subs are rated at 500 watts- SoundSplinter bandwagon

Well, metal will certainly be manipulated by heat and pressure (as is most any substance).. but I don't think that is what is happening here, nor do I think this is likely to happen with any subwoofer, as the materials used are of sufficient resilience to withstand ambient temperature extremes. The drivers have had that 'circular signiture' if you will, since they were first produced; it is not something that developed over time. Simply the way the cone was designed.. a cosmetic variance - nothing that will affect the driver mechanically, and nothing that will get better or worse as time goes on- What do yall think on my RL-p?
Sketching on paper and trying to draw with a corse paint pen on a textured concave surface are two very different things. I cannot guarantee anything when drawing on woofers - if you have a specific drawing in mind, I invite you to email it to me and I'll let you know how comfortable I am giving it a go on the woofer- My Rl-p
Indeed, these woofers are truly optimized for small enclosures. A lot of people seem to think that bigger is better (not saying that you are Fonzi), and I just try to tell them that it won't sound as good in large boxes. Have fun playing around with your new RL-p, if you'd ever like to discuss your options, feel free to fire over an email and we'll shoot the sh- RL-I 12"
> why does it look like there's circles in the middle of them? If the light is right, it shows the more-or-less flat depression in the center of the cone where the voicecoil is attached underneath. Jelly, your woofers might have this as well, though it may be less pronounced on the larger cones. I haven't been able to spy this anomoly on our new annodized cones.- SoundSplinter bandwagon
> Just curious what is the official Canadian SS #? > If neon rider is the only one, how many are getting with the group buy? I just shipped out three 15" drivers to Canada today (one to Alberta, two to Ontario)! Haven't sent out too many before that, I'd definitely say no more than 5. There's only one group buy order to Canada as far as I can see... so Ape, you'll still be one of the Top 10 Canoodian SoundSplinter Family Members @ Kent's 4:40am postings!- SoundSplinter LMT sub
Hello everyone! Spent the last couple days down at the plant in San Diego. Got some good news, and some bad news... Bad news is that the release of the drivers and subsequent "demo-ring" may be pushed back by anywhere from 1-4 weeks. Good news is, this is because after Thilo and I played around with all the current proto's down at the demo room inside TC from 9pm until midnight last night; it dawned on him that a machined manipulation of the pole piece underneath the region where the voicecoil acts may help to further refine -- or "aim" -- the magnetic flux. This is his idea of course, and my explanation probably doesn't do it justice - but it was exciting to see the gleam in his eye as the revelation came to him In so far as weight is concerned, around 50-60 lbs a piece, give or take for either the 12" or 15" models. PS. I snapped a few pictures and will release them in the coming few days here on SSA- 2 RL-p 12"box
The two RL-p12's will be fine with that power, and will still work well in your box. So far as your amp drawin' too much of a load, it may and it may not. I'd say give it a shot without any upgrades first, 'cause you very well may not have to upgrade any of the electrical components and may as well save the time/money if that's the case. If you have everything runnin' and are noticing dimming problems or what not, try the Big 3.. and if you're having further issues then you may want to consider grabbin' a deep-cycle battery and new alt.- SoundSplinter bandwagon
Thanks for the virtual strokin' of the ego No, but really - thanks for the kind words. Money is all well and good, but when you're making people happy and shown appreciation - well hell, that just kicks ass and gives me the drive to keep on keepin' on!- What do yall think on my RL-p?
Well that's the whole thing! .. if you be askin' me to scribble on your woofer, I'll have fun doing it .. but you'll have to accept responsibility for how it comes out- Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
Effendi, I did get your email - I'm not in a huge rush.. just wanted to drop mention of it to anyone who may have let it slip their mind B) If I'm in town you can bet I'll be stopping by at the SSA meet for sure! The thing that may pose a conflict is a trip I'm scheduled to take up to Oregon at the end of June through the second week of July. Call me a hippy, but I've been planning on hittin' the Oregon Country Fair for the last couple months since I have a few buddies up in the area who have raved about how much fun it's been in years past, not to mention over half of my immediate family, including all of my nieces and nephews reside up in the area and may be planning on going as well I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make it to the SSA gathering before I leave though! .. and chinny, I indeed used to have choices for various coil configurations on the site - it just so happens that I made the call to discontinue half of the options previously available because of rising overhead, storage space issues, and general customer interest. That's the whole reason we got this D2 group buy rollin' in the first place! Denim: I only have a couple D2's left unclaimed; and I'm not going to sell them until the entire group buy order has been shipped, in case a driver may fail testing and need to be rebuilt, etc.. in order to ensure everyone who did pay up front will get their driver ASAP.- 2 RL-p 12"box
34 Hz isn't too high for the in-car environment since the low-end experiences a 12dB/octave rise in response below 60~80 Hz that you get thanks to cabin gain... not to mention music typically doesn't get into the extremely low frequencies anyway. For an in-home setup, I would suggest tuning quite a bit lower since cabin gain will not be nearly as pronounced.- RL-P and my LI
Just to clear up any potential confusion (this one's for you denim! ) .. I generally tend to advocate a slightly higher tuning for the 12's (30-34 Hz) as opposed to the 15's (28-32 Hz) - and, if I know a bit more about the environment the woofer is going into, that may play a role in what I may ultimately recommend. .. and then there's the whole matter of personal taste  In short, you could get away with a fairly wide range of tuning- Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
Done taking orders for the Group Buy now. Got a total of 23 Drivers spoken for through the group buy offering. Not too shabby.. now if only all 23 people had paid for 'em already! Ah well, goin' pretty damn smoothly so far.. now we wait! Still expected to ship no later than the 27th. Thanks out to everyone for participating!- RL-I 12"
> who sold their rl-i's btw? and why? SirSyko on caraudio.com; I believe he said he wants to lighten the load in his Camero by moving to a single sub setup.- RL-I 12"
One of my closest friends exchanged his old dual 10" CompVR's for dual 10" RL-i's and has never looked back. Output-wise it'll be a helluva lot closer call.. but in terms of sound quality, the RL-i's should be kickin' some ass.- SoundSplinter questions
PM me with your zip code and I can give you an exact quote. I would estimate the RL-i8 may cost around $18-20 to ship to the midwest. - My Rl-p
