SoundSplinter questions
> When did soundsplinter start? Hired by TC Sounds in early Summer 2003 to begin developing SoundSplinter for TC's exclusive use, along with a more general audio wherehouse concept over at SoundBistro.com that would carry SoundSplinter alongside many other already known brands. Well as fortune would have it, TC got involved in other projects and offered me a contract to begin using them as an OEM, and in turn to run SoundSplinter as my own > Any info on production processes. Various parts are sourced worldwide and shipped to the manufacturing plant in San Diego, California to undergo assembly and any additional manufacturing processes that may be necessary for the finished product. They are also tested in-house, packaged, and ready to roll out the door from this location. > What

RL-i8's
It works The sound has been nice so far, it offers slightly more power than it is officially rated for, and it is fairly pleasing to the eye. For my purposes, and the $200 I paid for it, I'm happy

req, indeed there are a couple prototypes, but they use a conglomerate of spare parts and have the eclipse logo on the cone.. so I don't want to be putting up pictures of that for obvious reasons The drivers will look most similar to the ones that idiot posted above. We do plan to keep woven lead wires in the design as well. It's a bit more expensive, but I believe it to be both aesthetically and functionally superior to the non-woven alternative.

Yes, similar to Entasi's. I'll look into getting the cone black... but I want to make sure the integrity of the driver won't be compromised - as I know in the past, the paint on the surface of the aluminum has posed some potential issues with the adhesion of the glue to the surround. I'll see what I can do.- RL-i8's
RF Punch 6002 feeding each driver roughly 350 watts a piece (figured from the included amplifier spec sheet). I had used my Earthquake PHD3 (3000 watts) for a while, but it was quite simply ridiculous overkill so I decided to throw in the more practical RF amp I had layin' around that I picked up cheap a few months ago. Honestly though, while my system suits my purposes just fine, I really should put some more work into it seeing as I run a subwoofer company The drivers are enclosed behind either seat, with roughly 0.5 cu ft airspace.. though I'm sure there are some leaks as I'm relying on the body of the vehicle for some of the walls.. so I suppose you could consider it a quasi-infinite baffle rig. Not bad by any means, but it could be better. Since it's more than I need, I haven't been too worried about it - but seeing as I'm sure others who listen to it would love to witness the full capacity of the system so to speak.. I'll probably be modifying the enclosures to be ported, and may even put back the PHD3 just for kicks as a demo rig.- RL-i8's
Not at home at the moment, so I don't have my pic's handy Kent if you still have the copies I sent ya you can post 'em.- SoundSplinter LMT sub
Nah, I like my logo! .. not to mention I have a great time drawing, so if I used a new logo I'd want to do it myself- RL-i8's
Hey trigger! I think that setup sounds like the ticket. Pretty sure I got back to your email earlier this afternoon.. if not, just send me a virtual kick in the ass and I'll get right on it Don't let your friend spend so much money on the w7's.. they're just ridiculously overpriced for what you get -- good subs no doubt, but damn the price! Alternately, if your friend craves a lot of output, you really should work him over for a larger driver (10's or even the premium 12's), as they will certainly offer more output and still allow you to use relatively small enclosures. But if space is his pet peeve, by all means the 8's will be nice Indeed, I do run two RL-i8's in my car with roughly 300 watts a piece. Unfortunately, I'm up in the Los Angeles area and nine out of ten times when I'm down in San Diego, I don't have my little MR2 with me since I have to haul around so many speakers! ... we could hook one up free-air at TC, but that won't be very exciting (aside for the porn). In the rare event that I have a lot of extra time down there, I may be able to drop one in an enclosure - but it probably wouldn't be tailored specifically for the RL-i8, rather some leftover box they have in their demo room At any rate, hit me back if you have any other questions. LMFAO! You guys are awesome I would LOVE to take a trip out to Hawaii.. but I believe we're in the high season now, so unless my agent can score some unbelievable deals, I'm not so sure I'll be able to make it out by summer .. nonetheless, your offer is pretty damn sweet! We'll just have to wait and see what happens - you may just be hearin' from me sooner than you think! Denim, the cone will not be the same as the current drivers I'm carrying. Rather, it'll be a matte off-white/silverish aluminum cone, possibly with a polished aluminum inverted dustcap in the center. We had to go this route because the black annodized cones wouldn't offer as strong a connection to the linear voicecoil, and I want to make sure these drivers are as close to bullet proof as possible .. I'll make sure it looks good though, don't worry about that! As for the rest of the Q's. I just rolled in from Oregon, so I'll be playing catch up through the end of this week. More juicy info to come!- 5l-p 15 ported and tuned?
I hear ya Jelly. I don't know why you went all the way down to 23 Hz.. I'm pretty sure I didn't suggest it! I still wouldn't go up to 37-38 Hz, but again, this just exemplifies the importance of personal taste, and the fact that everything audio is extremely subjective and is really in the ear of the beholder. I guess I may have exaggerated above when I said only tune to 38 Hz if you're runnin' test tones.. but for me, I would simply not tune that high. If you like it, more power to ya! .. and I agree, 23 Hz would be pretty awesome for home theater. Heck even down to 18-20 Hz would be pretty damn sweet- 5l-p 15 ported and tuned?
Eww.. don't get that pre-fab tuned to 38 Hz - that's way too high in my opinion, unless you're just trying to get a high dB rating on a test tone For a quality in-car listening experience, I'd suggest tuning between 28 - 32 Hz on the RL-p15.. and yes, as has been pointed out there are quite a few people here who build quality boxes if you don't have the time or desire to build your own.- SoundSplinter LMT sub
No "final" word yet... as I still need to get some testing done on the final prototype to make sure everything is in order before we start doing public demos. I'm hoping this will happen late this week or early next, but as I was leaving for Oregon this past Saturady, I spoke with the boys an' gulls down at TC and they related that they've been hit with a pretty heavy workload. Whenever I get word like that, I tend to prepare myself for the worst - but I'll know with more certainty what the deal is when I get back in town Wednesday Even if I can't make it to a specific meet, I'd be more than happy to participate in a small gathering when time permits, to demo the new Supreme series for the locals- SoundSplinter LMT sub
Only if you put me up in your Hawaiian home for a week! A meet in Hawaii, man that would be the ticket though.. I'd probably get held up at airport security once they see all the huge metal beasts I'm tryin' to take o'er there- WOW
Indeed - welcome to the forums Derek! Your thread has brought a smile to this man's face! Now I'm not going to tell you that our woofers are definitively better than the XXX's or any other woofer for that matter - for in my opinion, there is no definite answer to be had. I will say however, that given the amplifier you plan to run, and your desire for great sound coupled with the ability to get loud enough to be uncomfortable , two ported RL-p12's should fit the bill no problem! I'm currently on leave in Oregon (for some mother's day festivities and family visits with my sisters, nieces, and nephews ), so it may take me a bit longer than usual to get back to you - but feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions about your system or just want to shoot the shyte B) FYI, I'll be back in town on Wednesday. Here's hopin' for a great week!- Current Group Buy Count
Yep I've been gettin' a few emails here and there from the stragglers - thanks for keepin' the word rollin' out guys chinny, make sure your friend specifically mentions your name when s/he places their order, so that I can make sure to offer you a $10 referral credit on any future purchases you may make Thanks for the quick payments everyone!- is that a new 10" rli
Heyo, I think you emailed me about this over the last couple days. I'm up in Oregon at the present time for Mother's day through this coming Wednesday night.. and all that champagne at breakfast has me off my game a bit .. but, indeed there are a couple RL-i12's left laying around. Going on a first-come first-served basis. Thus far, I've already had a couple people contact me about them.. so we'll see how it goes.- What do you think?
I'll tell you this: Recones are 50% of the purchase price + two-way shipping Seroiusly though, no need for 1250 on a ported RL-p. I wouldn't risk it. I mean hell, unless you're planning on doing competitions or something, you can still go deaf with a "modest" 500 watts on a ported RL-p. I'd shoot for 750-800 watts per ported RL-p imho. 750-1000 if you're doing sealed. Make sure you contact me before you start building your enclosure. With the amount of power it sounds like you'll be using, you'll want to make sure your enclosure is spot on.- 12" rl-p vs 12" avalanche (specs only)
Aww.. I feel so special Bur really, thanks for the kind words - tis always nice to feel appreciated .. and that off the wall 'seekers of punani' graemlin is fridgin' hillarious!- SoundSplinter LMT sub
Send your request anyway Squeak. It could very well work out that we have a little get together around here in California - but even if we do, I'd still like to have a centralized list of everyone who is interested, just to make it easier to coordinate when the time comes- SoundSplinter LMT sub
Too late, you already did!- SoundSplinter LMT sub
No, no major effects in terms of how the driver will perform in the practical/realistic sense. In the marketing sense, the new design has helped tweak the T/S param's in the generally accepted favor- SoundSplinter LMT sub
It will be big in size, yes. You might be able to consider it to be similar to the W7 in that respsect. In terms of sound however.. Well, you should know I'm betting it'll be better than the W7; but what the public may think is of course, yet to be seen- SoundSplinter LMT sub
The RL-p series has used dual 7.5" x 1" magnets in the past. The newer Premium 15's and the group buy 12 D2's are using tripple 7.5" x 0.75" magnets. The Supreme drivers will use quintupled 7.5" x 0.75" magnets. - SoundSplinter LMT sub
