12" rl-p vs 12" avalanche (specs only)
Indeed, this is very true. Something that I think is a great selling point for that matter, thanks for mentioning it! The reason for this added "presence" or "warmth" as many tend to call it, is the 2nd order harmonic distortion. The 2nd harmonics are actually desireable in my opinion, because they do flesh out the sound a bit, and are by no means unpleasing to the ear.. quite the opposite! It is the 3rd order and higher harmonic distortion that begins to grate upon the ear drum... but fear not, because the RL-p and RL-i drivers are built such that 2nd harmonic distortion is really all you'll get, with the higher orders so heavily minimized that they are essentially null and void  B)

Rl-p 15 and ed nine.1
For in-car, I'd say tune to 32 Hz with 35-40 sq in of port area on a 2.5 - 3 cu ft net volume enclosure. For in-home, I'd raise the bar to 5.0 cu ft net volume, tuned down to 18-20 Hz with some 45-50 sq in of port area

SoundSplinter LMT sub
http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=2748 ^^ long and cumbersome, but that thread does contain all the information I've released on our new Supreme Series LMT drivers thus far. Prototypes have been made, but they are frankenstein woofers and I am waiting for the last parts to come in for our final version, which we should have a prototype built for within about one week. Now, the fun stuff - if anyone here would like to DEMO THE SUPREME SERIES 12" LMT DRIVER, shoot me over an email and provide the following information: Your Name Your Full Address Why you would like to Demo it If you are willing to incur the cost of shipping the driver to the next person Any type of references you may have Aside from the outbound shipping cost, the demo will be free of charge, and I'll give each person between 5-7 days (one week maximum) to play around with it. This will likely begin in early June. ------------------------ Recap of the new Supreme Series: Built upon the TC3HP high excursion motor Aluminum cone w/ NBR tall rubber surround Available in 12" and 15" sizes (maybe more down the line, interest depending) Up to 38.15 mm one way linear Xmax - True 3" peak to peak excursion! RMS rating of 800 watts (2 kW peak) 2ohm single linear voice coil (TC Sounds patented proprietary technology, first time it will hit the open market) Powedercoated black/grey chrome basket 5 x (7.5" by 0.75") magnets in order to flat-out prevent the possibility of bottoming out Dual 9.8" spiders Fs around 20 Hz Qts between 0.4 - 0.5 Debut pricing of $499 for a 12" and $559 for a 15" Full release date scheduled for late June / early July More information will be released after all the final parts arrive and the finalized prototypes are together in full force for testing.

12" rl-p vs 12" avalanche (specs only)
Are you serious? You wouldn't be referring to the comments Dan made, illuding that Adire is the only builder truly capable of using XBL^2 to its full potential, would you? .. nevermind, I just saw the statement on AA's website. Ah, so funny how the drama swings with us humans. Part of our condition I suppose In so far as the Avalanche versus the RL-p. Pretty damn close I'd say. So close, that I would not want to call one better than the other, as it will literally come down to the individual box and listening environment no matter how you slice it, imho.

Good eye NattyD.. I'll fix that typo about the 12" RL-i's right away Thanks for the compliments on the page too chinny, the RL-p pages are pending update. They will be the same format as the RL-i series pages, but as I'm planning on going out of town over the weekend for mother's day, I may not have time to get the final revamped RL-p pages online until next week.

is that a new 10" rli
If you're talkin' about the new RL-i10 page on the website, the driver itself is still pretty much the same as it's always been. Differences being the use of an NBR rubber surround and annodized aluminum cone as opposed to the santoprene surround and painted aluminum cone of the older ones. A couple of the original units had a glue problem where the surround would become detached from the cone because the process of gluing required a technique that wasn't all that failsafe. It involved using abrasive chemicals and tools to texture the edges of the cone where the surround connected, in order to make for a proper seal. Unfortunately sometimes the assembly guys wouldn't get this done quite right, or may not have waited long enough for the chemicals to dry before attempting to glue it together.. which resulted in the couple failed drivers. Fortunately, the new materials used should correct this potential problem entirely. I still have a few of the older 10's left that I will probably offer up here on the forum for a discount in the coming days, and of course they will be covered under warranty. No new developments on the RL-p's for now, except that we are using a slightly different magnet structure for our current (and probably all our future) lots of RL-p15's. Performance-wise, this will have minimal effect, though the new units do look a little better on the T/S side of things. The new spec sheets and pic's will go up once I've finished putting together the updated Premium Series pages in the coming week, or the week after since I'm flying up to southern Oregon to visit familiy for mother's day and may not get a chance to finalize all the pages before I leave on Saturday morning.

The Supreme Series will debut in 12" and 15" sizes.. there may or may not be an 18" driver following up later on, depending on how well the interest is overall. So far as a sneak peak, just waiting on some of the last parts to come in and we'll get a finalized prototype ready to roll... should be about a week (I hope). There are some prototypes built, but they use leftover stock parts from various other drivers so I'd rather not solicit pictures of 'em. .. especially since they use cones that say "eclipse" on 'em- Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
Indeed that is NOT a typo The Enhanced Q configurations are oftentimes quite small. I doubt many people will actually use them, but I included them just as a comparative instrument for people analyzing the graphs. .. and LOONY?! I'll loony you Supa_C PS. I know there is some missing information on the pages as well - I'll be getting to that as soon as I get my new 18" caliper in the mail later this week =]- Linear Motor Technology - A Reference
The RL-p's are great drivers and you certainly won't go wrong with one. The RL-s LMT enabled drivers will be great too.. but moreso they are designed for the extreme. For most people's practical purposes, the RL-p will be more than enough. But for those who want to push the limits, that's where the RL-s comes into play. There really shouldn't be so much concern placed upon the inductance of the subwoofer. If we're talkin' midranges and such, fine, indeed a high inductance would slaughter 'em -- but as for the Supreme Series, you shouldn't be worrying about the inductance as much as you should be about your ear drums!- Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
Just so you all know and don't think I'm going off my rocker.. the direct pricing structures will be fluctuating a bit to compensate for the significantly increased production costs I've been faced with as of late. If any of you have noticed, I put the new RL-i Series pages online earlier this afternoon.. and you may have noticed that the prices are a few bucks higher than they have been in the past. You'll also notice that there is no longer an RL-i12 listed, as I am discontinuing that driver due to low-interest coupled with the fact that I wasn't hardly making any money on it to begin with -- if you or someone you know would like an RL-i12, I still have a pair of D4's and a single S4 available. For those of you lookin' to jump on the group buy a little late, I will be offering the RL-p12 D2's for $209 a piece, plus shipping, through May 15th. Sorry about the bad news.. but I'm doing my best to keep my prices as low as possible without me having to live off of Top Ramen all day . I'm also planning on obtaining more wherehouse space in the near future which will allow me to stock more inventory, and thus maintain my margins - I hope!- Linear Motor Technology - A Reference
.. and I really wouldn't worry much about the comparatively higher inductance. When using this woofer within its recommended enclosure and input power specifications, the inductance will not cause any discernable decline in quality or frequency response within the woofer's intended range.- Current Group Buy Count
Thanks finebar, that's very nice of you! Indeed my fees are the same 3% as any business or premiere account's. But hey, no one should feel obligated to pay extra - however, I can't complain! .. and I do appreciate it greatly =]- Buying Rl-p

Sure thing.. fire over an email with your full name, shipping address, desired type & quantity of driver(s) --> http://www.soundsplinter.com/contact_us.html Sorry about the online form - don't know what's up with that but I will look into it and get it back online soon. Most of the website will be going through updates this coming week so there may be a few bugs cropping up here and there. Thanks for the report! B)- Current Group Buy Count
Indeed, TC has been raising their rates fairly consistently. Perhaps not so much on their direct account, but the fact that the OEM business in general is starting to decline. Most recently, the prices on steel have gone up about 20%, cardboard packaging up 50%, and freight up between 30-50%. Unfortunately, these increases trickle down to me, but I am doing everything I can to ensure that the end buyer is still getting a solid deal on our products. I don't want to price my products around the ridiculous rates that many of the large manufacturers do because I know how much I appreciate low prices myself and would like to keep the "family" atmosphere of SoundSplinter alive and well. I imagine that if this trend continues, I will start moving towards fully finished products where I can keep higher margins (alongside the likes of SVS). However, if I do go this way, I will certainly not be discontinuing my raw drivers - since in my opinion it's more fun to build your own than to buy a pre-made unit. At any rate, pre-made units will sell for more money and I'll still get to have fun building them B) The times they are a-changin'- Current Group Buy Count
Individual invoices have been sent out to each person on the list Squeak provided me, detailing the total costs and payment information for each buyer. I also included a note in each invoice, requesting that if it is at all possible, it would be much appreciated if you could send in your payment by check or money order. Normally, I wouldn't be so concerned, but upon hammering out the purchase order for this production, I've found my production overhead to have increased 15% since January, and 30% since last July! This almost made the entire group buy impossible - but I sucked it up and am going to be buying about twice as many RL-p 12 D2's than I currently have on order, in order to make the whole thing feasible and as not to disappoint all you fine folks that have signed onto the project. So yea, if you can swing writing a check - I'd be a very happy guy. If you must use PayPal, then hey no hard feelings, that's the way it's gotta be! For anyone else interested in an RL-p12 D2 at $209 a piece, you must contact me before May 15th! After that, any remaining drivers will be sold at the normal rate.- Current Group Buy Count

Yes on PayPal Yes on Tracking No's (for domestic shipments only) .. and as I just mentioned in the original group buy thread:- Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
Purchase order is currently being worked out and parts should be slated/ordered as early as next week. The drivers for this group buy should ship no later than the week of May 23rd. Production overhead has risen on me, so I am going to be ordering a higher quantity of drivers in order to make this more economincally feasible. As such, any stragglers who may want to pick up a RL-p12 D2 will have a chance, but they should get in touch with me ASAP. - Linear Motor Technology - A Reference
