  1. Honestly, sealed sounds very nice and for the in-car environment (hell even my living room!), a sealed 12" will do a nice trick and get plenty loud for any type of reasonable use That said, if you are planning on using this sub for daily driving (and generally responsible listening), you could get away with a ported enclosure tuned to 28 Hz or so since most music won't end up playing lower anyway; and at normal listening volumes, the added stress from the drivers attempted overexcursion at frequencies below tuning shouldn't be strong enough, or long enough, to physically damage the driver. But hey, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful! For a musical in-car application, considering your situation, I'd personally stick with a sealed setup.
  2. With all due respect, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to discern a driver's quality from a compressed video file on the 'net. The sound quality will be off since the mic's on most cameras are flat out crap - and video framerates can vary quite a bit, thus fudging with the image you end up seeing on the recording. No biggie though, we just don't want assumptions to be represented as fact 'round here.. which is why neonrider called you on your statement B)
  3. It's really up to you. The two RL-i12's will have the potential to get the loudest, but any way you slice it you'll have more than enough bass to work with for a daily listening application. To save space, I'd likely opt for the single RL-p12 myself. I should also note that after I'm out of my current stock of RL-i12's (only have a few left at the current time), I'll not be restocking them again. So if you have your heart set on one of those, you should jump on it quickly
  4. I can get you those measurements by the weekend. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have any of that info with me while I'm on vacation. What kind of box are you going to be building that you need all those measurements anyway!?
  5. .....
  6. Ouch, sorry to hear about your car. Sounds like you got a busted cooling hose, and as a result, maybe a fried water pump and a few other cooling problems... but all in all, if you didn't drive it much in that condition, I'd say it'd be much cheaper to repair your cooling system than to buy a whole 'nother car! Then again, if you don't want to deal with the hassle, I can understand that too... and the generous offer from your parents only sweetens the deal! I'm just a thrifty guy I guess - I can't picture myself buying a new car since it loses so much of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Used all the way baby!
  7. Thanks for the compliments guys! The way the page has been setup it goes: Main Index --> Series Index --> Series/Driver Info I figured that since I'm catering to DIY'ers, more information the better.. so I added a new level: Main Index --> Series Index --> Series Info/Driver Index --> Driver Info Up here in the Bay area so I can't upload the Series Info/Driver Index page 'til I get back, but it looks very similar to the current Series/Driver Info pages, except with a link to the fleshed out Driver Info page instead of just pop-up links for the t/s & enclosure rec's as it is now. Hopefully this will cut down on my email load since more information will be readily available on site!
  8. Yea, what Kent said. I'd really like to do that, get more hands on with my work you know .. but at the moment my plate is a bit full. In time... Also, FYI to those reading, I am on a 5 day excursion up in the San Francisco / Santa Cruz area starting today - so I won't be as on top of things as I usually try to be. But, I'll still be checkin' in on email and voicemail if anyone has urgent concerns. Just figured I'd mention it here since you guys are so awesome at keeping everyone informed B) Have a great weekend!
  9. Not likely... if I had my hands on TC4HP LM proto's, it'd be 'cause I'd be planning on carrying them in the lineup I really don't need anything that massive for myself... yet!
  10. Lookin' very nice! If you want to pick up a nice amp which is relatively inexpensive for the amount of output it offers, consider this .. then you'll have headroom for adding another TC9 later on B)
  11. I'm just not sure that smaller versions of the LM drivers, at this time, would be economically feasible. In the future this indeed may happen, but right now it would require tooling new parts and would end up being quite a bit more expensive than the majority of 10" and smaller drivers currently on the market. For the most part, people who would pay $350 for a 10" driver would probably be the type of person that would rather find a way to fit an equally declicious, yet larger driver in their application.. thus I'm not sure how good the smaller LM enabled drivers would end up fairing. Of course, if the price point could be matched with the market, we'd have a winner - but expenses are expenses and there ain't much we can do about 'em! Not to mention, the RL-i line will do a great job at keeping the small driver users consumed with beautiful bass Wish I had some of that Mad Anthony Beer
  12. The RL-s series (the new LMT drivers) will likely be rated for 800wrms, with acceptable ranges anywhere between 600-1500 wrms for daily listening. I would estimate that in roughly six months, a TC4HP LM driver will be coming out.. however, depending on its price point I may or may not carry it. By the looks of things, it will probably be so expensive that hardly anyone will want to buy it anyway, in which case I likely will not carry it through SoundSplinter. But if the price is right, I'll add it to the lineup and that motor will be rated around 1200 wRMS with daily handling anywhere from 800-2200 watts.
  13. Hey 80.. we got about 0.019m^2 cone area and 17.8mm Xmax - if you need quick spec reference, visit this link (page in progress). Edit: The above link is no longer active, but the new pages for the RL-i Series are now available online in the regular products section of the website
  14. Hrmm.. probably the largest I'd go is 4.25 cu ft tuned to 24 Hz... mind you I wouldn't use this in a car, since you could get away with a smaller, slightly higher tuned box and still get just as good frequency response thanks to the effects of cabin gain. A 4.25 cu ft net volume box, tuned to 24 Hz would be a very nice enclosure for the RL-p15 in the home theater environment though
  15. Well, RL-s.. SSSS.. it's all the same to me! LOL denim @ hissing I think that formally, I'll keep it as RL-s, since I don't want it to look like I'm trying to knock off the XXX.. which someone actually tried to say I already was, on account of my "X" looking "S" logo I'm not going to speculate on box sizes until I get the final prototype in hand (about 2-3 weeks give or take).
  16. Sure. Of course, FedEx ground shipping within Southern California will usually arrive overnight and only cost you around $10-15. In other words, pickin' it up won't really save you any wait time Optimistically, I would say that from the moment I've received the funds, we're lookin' at 3 weeks lead time. Pessimistically, I would say nearing on 6 weeks lead time.
  17. It shouldn't take more than 4 weeks to have the drivers ready to ship, from the date that the pre-paid funds are in my hands. I would say that, from today's standpoint, you're lookin' at 4-6 weeks before you get the RL-p12 D2 from this group buy in your hands. Estimate only of course, for all I know it could take up to 8 weeks (but I'm really just trying to prepare you for the worst case senario, it really shouldn't take that long).
  18. Hey Squeak, when you get to 13 or 14.. you may want to send out an email to each of the confirmed buyers, asking them to confirm their confirmation Just to make sure none of the early birds got hooked up with other equipment and are no longer interested..
  19. That really is beautiful! Thanks for posting it over here I've been meaning to get that up on the site but just haven't got to it.. this was a good way to refresh my memory! .. but it looks like I'm heading up to San Francisco tomorrow for a few days, as well as being in the midst of revamping the product section of the website (click here to get an idea).. so it'll still be a week or three before I get a chance to tackle the whole "Other Stuff" section
  20. ?Simon ese, y que homie? If you prefer we can go to the "Peach Pit", you may feel better there with Luke Perry and Jason Priestly to keep you safe. And they should have alot more of the females you like.....you know.....big tits, no ass and Karl Malden face!!! Pasadena is quite racially mixed, I wouldn't say that an overwhelming portion of it is Mexican moreso than most other cities in the Californian southland. .. oh and who gives a
  21. I'll just say that the RL-p is definitely built more solid than the 15A in terms of the abuse it can take. Sound quality.. well that's hard to say - I'm sure you'd be happy with it - but on the same token - you already have a fairly similar driver. I haven't even heard a 15A in about a year so I really don't have an opinion on its sound versus the RL-p. Tough call.. and I'll leave it at that!
  22. Figure I'll add these graphs to this thread too for those that may not catch the other one Recommended RL-i8 Sealed Enclosures Butterworth: 0.17 cu ft net (magenta line) Enhanced Q: 0.065 cu ft net (green dotted line) Bessel: 0.3523 cu ft net (red dashed line) Recommended RL-i8 Vented Enclosures Butterworth: 0.3 cu ft net tuned to 35 Hz (magenta line) Enhanced Q: 0.24 cu ft net tuned to 39 Hz (green dotted line) Damped: 0.26 cu ft net tuned to 31 Hz (red dashed line)
