Profuse apologies, but this will be a flat rate regardless of how many drivers one individual may be ordering

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
Ok, had a chance to play some numbers through Leap.. I think the best overall enclosure for an SQ oriented system with these new 8's would be a 0.17 cu ft net volume sealed. I ran this quickly so I may revise this recommendation in the neat future

.. and for Kent and squeak, and perhaps a few others - I would have no problem offering a demo unit to be bounced around within a group of select trusted users so that they can get a chance to test and listen to this new design. I saw Ascendant Audio doing this with one of their woofers over on SoundDomain and it really helped get the word out for them, and I know people like to play with new toys so I figure this will certainly be an opportunity for those interested.

Inductance is a little bit higher on the LMT's, comin' in at 6.5 mH (as opposed to the roughly 4 mH series inductance on our RL-p12). All in all though, given that this is in consideration for a subwoofer, it is not a large concern. If we were talkin' about midranges or tweeters, then the inductance would be acting as a quasi-low pass filter and hurting the response.. but for a subwoofer, the LMT will still shine below 100-150 Hz no problem, and that is all we are really concerned with when considering this driver as a true subwoofer, which it is. Also, it is indeed true that there has not yet been a dual linear voice coil developed at this juncture... so at the moment we are stuck with single voice coil configurations. Price-wise, and please remember to give or take about $50, this driver is looking to come out at around $560 for the 15" model, and perhaps $500 for the 12 incher. Please remember these are preliminary estimates only, and when all is said in done this estimate may a bit off! It really depends on how these prototypes come out and what type of modifications (if any), we will be implementing. Of course, as I am fond of, I will offer price breaks when you buy a pair.

Official Rl-p D2 Group Buy Thread
This special order will utilize our new cosmetics, exhibiting the black annodized aluminum cones. At this time we do not offer an RL-p10.. and it looks like the concensus as it stands is that this group buy will be for RL-p12 D2's only. Local pickup is fine, but realize that 90% of the time I am up in the Los Angeles area and not down here in San Diego. If you want to local pickup in San Diego, I cannot make any guarantees but there is an outside chance that I could leave one driver here at TC for you to swing by and grab. Also please realize that this order will need to be paid for up front, so if you are truly interested, it would facilitate the process if you left your contact information in this thread or gave it to squeak9798 to keep track of until the time comes that the 15 minimum buy order has been reached. Good luck

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
Hey all, Down at TC today helping them revamp their website, but I'll do my best to work out some enclosure recommendations as soon as I can. The boots are in transit from Ohio, so they will arrive next week for sure. I may have to wait for a re-shipping up to Los Angeles though, since I'm not planning on being down here next week. At any rate, I think I will start shipping these bad boys by next Friday. I believe Xmax on the RL-i8 is 17.8 mm

No recommended enclosure sizes quite yet. I'd also like to keep the price point on the down low until these beasts get closer to launch, though I will tell you that they won't exactly be cheap So far as the surround is concerned, this is something we are currently debating. The tall rubber surround will raise the Qts value quite a bit, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.. but we may end up shooting for a thin rubber surround or possibly foam, which will be more flexible. Undecided on this one at the current time. About the basket, it has been used before on other drivers. Think Lightning Audio Size-wise, we're lookin' at 12" and 15" models. I should note that we may choose to release only one size at a time, depending on parts availability, and also simply to get some into the market as quickly as possible in order see what people have to say about them. Given the high excursion of this driver and large stack of magnets, these will indeed be a large driver with a pretty hefty mounting depth - though we will try to do what we can to keep it as practical as possible without compromising mechanical performance ability.

Lost of excitment - that's what I like to see! Thanks go out to everyone who has shared their opinions/preferences.. please keep it coming. This production is moving a lot faster than I had anticipated and I may just have a limited number of LMT enabled drivers ready sometime next month!.. though this is tentative and certainly not a guarantee. I have made up a document for my own reference (and that of TC Sounds) indicating the general trends of what you have all requested, and will add to it accordingly given the continuation of solid feedback. This driver will be a work in progress, and over time there could very well be various tweaks made in the design, seeing as this product will be introduced in its infancy and bigger/better ideas may come about after people start really using them. So without further ado, the tentative build specifications for our first batch of LMT enabled drivers will be as follows: Powdercoated black/grey chrome basket (not the typical 4/10/12 spoke, nor the Eclipse style as was used on the first prototypes) TC 3 HP Motor 4 x (7.5" by 0.75") magnets Dual 9.8" spider assembly Linear Single Voicecoil @ 2 or 4 ohms (likely to be 2ohm, but 4ohm coils are already in inventory) Black annodized aluminum cone 35 mm one way Xmax (near 3" peak to peak) Power handling from 750 RMS to 2 kW peak I'd like to take this time to make a few personal comments as well. A lot of what gets said on the internet (by both consumers and companies alike), is riddled with embellishment and sometimes outright lies. I pledge to you to provide as accurate of specifications as possible at all times, and will never try to mislead my customers. It is for this reason that you may think 35 mm one way Xmax isn't "all that much" - but in reality, if you place this driver next to others that may claim 40 or even 45 mm Xmax, you will likely see that there is no discernable difference.. which must mean that someone is fudging some numbers just to look good. Of course I'm not going to mention any names because what other people do is their business, I only want to express to you all that I am giving you the facts straight up and without a sugar coat Here's hopin' these drivers will be a smash hit!

I would like to add that this driver is currently under development and as of the current date, we have no concrete specifications for the product that will come to market. To satisfy some curiousity, I would estimate that prototypes will be in hand within a few weeks, and I would hope that this driver will come to fruition within the next three months. These drivers will likely perform optimally with 1000wrms and above. Please realize that these are estimates only! I would also like to welcome any and all comments about what YOU, the consumer and enthusiast, would like to see these drivers offer. Obviously we cannot satisfy everyone, and need to keep in mind the economics behind the development of this driver.. but seeing as we are in the prototype stage, it wouldn't hurt for you to express your own desires for our new LMT enabled drivers. Things to ponder might include the importance of excursion versus practicality, optimization for small or large boxes, and so on. Make your voice heard! People are listening B) As we get further into the development of this product, information will be posted in this forum - so feel free to visit often, we'd love to have you as a member!

Linear Motor Technology - A Reference
As many of you may have heard, we indeed have some exciting news about TC Sounds' Linear Motor technology. After years of development, and months of negociations, SoundSplinter has been granted exclusive rights to be the first distributor of Linear Motor technology enabled drivers! Few prototypes have been made thus far, but those that were have been given exceptionally high acclaim by those who have experienced them. My goal is to work with TC Sounds to continue this saga in appropriate fashion, bringing to market a truly awesome driver, capable of massive excursion, huge output, high power handling, all with incredibly low distortion and a beastliness that will amaze any onlooker (and of course every listener!). So you might be asking yourself, "What is this Linear Motor technology all about? I've been hearing the term thrown around forever now but could never get my hands on it.. Is this a dream?" .. A dream come true maybe! __________________________________________________________________________ Variable Density Coil - White Paper By Thilo Stompler Property of TC Sounds, Inc. __________________________________________________________________________ Principle Electromechanical systems are made up of coupled electric and magnetic circuits. By a magnetic circuit, we mean a path for magnetic flux, just as an electric circuit provides path for the flow of electric current. In electromechanical devices, current-carrying conductors interact with magnetic fields (themselves arising from electric currents in conductors or from permanent magnets), resulting in electromechanical energy conversion. Consider a conductor of length "L" placed between the poles of a permanent magnet producing a magnetic flux density B in the "air gap" between the poles N - S (ref. Image 1). Let the conductor carry a current "I" and be at right angles to the magnetic flux lines. The conductor experiences a force F, in the direction of which is perpendicular to both the conductor and to the magnetic filed lines, and the magnitude of which is given by F=(B)(I)(L). For N conductors (or turns), F becomes (N)(B)(I)(L). A more general statement which holds for an arbitrary orientation of the conductor with respect to the flux lines is the cross product of the two vectors B and L, i.e. F=(I)(L) x B (Ampere

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
Punk! But on a serious note, I know that there is some stuff on the website that is a little dated and I do apologize.. I am planning on getting to most of it but I have a lot on my plate at the moment and I'd much rather concentrate on giving quality service to my current and future customers, including bringing new drivers to market, than nit pick over some pictures on the website. Additionally, I still have drivers with the cone model you see on the website in stock (the RL-i series), so it is only 50% misleading I will be adding a note on the website that driver cosmetics will change from time to time and that there are no guarantees that what you will receive will be what is on the webpage (a standard disclaimer that many companies use). I do try to ensure that all the drivers look sexy, even if different.. but if you need to know exactly what is available at the present moment, I always invite anyone to email me and just ask me and I'll do my best to answer all your questions. Also, I will be adding an image gallery to the website over the next month or so - which will allow everyone to see just how varied the cosmetics can be! Indeed I have gone through quite a few styles, but like I said, I think they are all beautiful and if you need to know exactly what you're getting all you need to do is ask.

Exciting news from SoundSplinter
Prices on the 8's are staying steady @ $148 a piece or $135 a piece if you a pair. As stated in the dedicated RL-i8 thread, they are not to be used as midbass drivers and are in fact a true subwoofer performing optimally at 100 Hz and below. I will have more info ready to post here with regards to the LMT soon. I have to go and run around for an hour or two but if all goes smoothly I'll slap up some data on the LMT straight from the hounds at TC Sounds later this evening.

I'd bet these would be absolutely phenomenal in a 'vette! Nice and tight enclosure spec's which won't take up massive amounts of room, but plenty of robustified output

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
No logo on the RL-i8's. They will simply feature an all black face with a clear coat finish on the cone (which will make 'em nice and glossy).

> Can you still do the gloss black logo? > If so, put that on the new cone the affect would be better. For now I'm going to keep it simple and sleek with non-logo'd drivers. The printer just takes too long. I may at some point give the gloss black a shot, but now that I'm using the slightly textured annodized cones, I'm not sure that I would like it as well as the matte versus gloss contrast. At any rate, thank you for your input

Exciting news from SoundSplinter
O great.. now I'mma be bombarded with emails while I'm trying to do my taxes Just to clarify, I do have my RL-i8's in hand, but I am still short on boots. I literally have only one or two spare boots, so Kent you'll be getting your driver right away.. but I will not be taking orders for the RL-i8's until I receive the rest of the boots (approximately one week from now). Also, it is indeed true that SoundSplinter has been given the first exclusive rights to carry drivers enabled with TC Sounds' Linear Motor Technology. Finally, I can confidently state that the LMT will be a reality and SoundSplinter will be the first to sell it to the masses! As I am still hammering out the details, I do not want to get ahead of myself save to say that this will happen, and I would estimate I will have the drivers in hand within a few months (though perchance quite a bit sooner ). Keep an eye here for more detailed information as I get time to organize and post it. First things first, and unfortunately today that's figuring out all my 2004 taxes Sit tight! Be excited! .. I know I am!

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
No pic's quite yet.. but Steve I got the numbers I think you need (and then some ): RL-i8 Measurements: Mounting Depth: 14.6 cm Total Depth inc. Gasket: 16 cm Depth of Basket (not including gasket or motor assembly): 7.2 cm Widest Basket Width (in the 7.2 cm of depth listed above): 18 cm Weight: 18 lbs Magnet Width: 15.6 cm Magnet Weight: 4.2 lbs x 2 Driver Diameter inc. Gasket: 22 cm Thiele-Small Parameters coming very soon! I would also like to state that these are not to be used as standalone midbass drivers. They are designed as a subwoofer and will do a fantastic job with the sub bass frequencies, but above 100 Hz they will not perform as well. My apologies to those who may have had hopes otherwise

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
I'll do my best to grab you those measurements Steve (I think your name is Steve.. if it's not, I apologize ). ..and supa, magnet boots are the sexyness! You know what they say about first impressions

First Looks: SoundSplinter RL-i Series 8" Driver
The new RL-i8's just came off the line yesterday!. Unfortunately, we are short on magnet boots for these drivers and will need to wait approximately one more week for those to come in from Ohio. I don't want to start shipping these until I can do so in their fully finished form. I will be down in San Diego hangin' with Thilo for the next two days or so.. going to pull off the spec's from the new production units, hopefully snap a few pictures, and hey maybe even hit some waves in this 80

I'm starting to think the same JF. I've always liked the sleekness of a blank cone - but I'm also proud of the logo I made damnit! Initially, I had planned on the logo being printed in a gloss black on the matte black cones, for a very subtle effect (which I may still try at some point). But then I saw this Pantone 876C color, which is a sweet metallic copperish color. Unfortunately, during printing the ink reacted with the paint on the cone and it lost its nice metallic shimmer.. which is why the end product looks more orange than copper. Ah well, you live and learn! Thanks for the input everyone - keep it comin'- "Ultimate Competition"
Indeed, that project has been put on hiatus for the time being to make way for the new high powered 8's that will be ready to ship in about one week. The "Ultimate Competition" driver at this point is more of an idea being thrown around than an actual work in progress, although over time I will be adding new products to my lineup... just have to take it one step at a time B) (Secretly, I'm hoping that I'll be able to score the rights to sell a driver utilizing TC's Linear Motor Technology.. but word on that hasn't come through quite yet) - lets take a vote
