  1. Dude offering two TC2+12's for $180 ($90 a piece), either stole them, or is losing money
  2. Those are indeed very similar (if not the same) as my initial release of RL-i12's, built upon the TC2+ motor. TC does not put copper sleeves on most of the OEM TC2+ drivers that I've seen, so score one for me! But seriously, that is quite a steal - copper or not. $180 between the pair is significantly less than I'd have to pay per unit for producing them in quantity! One of the main reasons I stopped selling that RL-i12 is cause it was too expensive to produce in relation to the price people were willing to pay.. so it was cut
  3. > vid around here somewhere of an rl-i10 just getting nasty I believe [this] be the one. Too bad there was so little light at the time of recording, damn camera couldn't focus. If memory serves, that RL-i10 is in a 0.75 cu ft sealed.
  4. ^^ what he said. I would even feel comfortable using an amp configuration rated for up to 500-600 watts on the RL-i8 for musical purposes. Just listen responsibly, don't crank everything full tilt for extended periods of time, and that should help get e'ry last drop out of those bad boys. A ported box would be stellar as well (from 0.6 - 1.0 cu ft, tuned between 25 - 35 Hz). For in-car use, I would probably stick around the region of 0.65 cu ft, tuned to ~33 Hz.
  5. To go into a little greater detail - left the Los Angeles basin heading east on the 210 fwy, hit the north 15 and were supposed to take the exit to the 138 west into Wrightwood (mountain town where the skiing is!). So 'bout the time the 15 starts to wind its way into the mountains, I'm needing to piss like a race horse and it seems there are no facilities on the exits anymore. Just when I'm about to pull over and piss on the side of the road, I spot what looks to be a major exit to "Silverlake" - complete with a McD's on the corner of the off-ramp. Racing against time, I screech around the turns and into the parking lot, making a quick run for the restrooms.. all the while noticing a good lot of young people around me, all decked out in puffy snow gear. Clearly, they had the idea to hit the same fresh powder as my bro's and I did. What I hadn't counted on, was the flood of satisfaction that washed over me as I got to tap my built-in pressure release valve. Must have clouded my judgement, 'cause walkin' out of the McD's, I calmly cranked up the stereo, pulled out of the lot, and back onto the 15 north... all the while failing to realize that the exit we had gotten off at was the Silverlake / Hwy 138 exit! Subconsciously willful? Perhaps.. but I really did want to hit that snow Ahh well, all's well that ends well
  6. Indeed - I had an ol' friend in town from his tenure in med school back east, spent the last week catchin' up on stories. Had some fresh snow hit the local mountains, so we were plannin' on heading up to Mountain High here in southern California to hit some of that powder. Unfortunately we missed the turnoff into the mountains and ended up about 60 miles into the Mojave desert. Turns out it all worked out, we saw a sign for Las Vegas some 180 miles ahead and decided to hell with it - let's go to Vegas! I should be easin' back into my routine now
  7. Ooo.. bummer! If the staining is too terrible to polish out, you can definitely spray paint the cone - as my first customers who have the painted matte black drivers can attest to. Just make sure you cover up them surrounds nicely before you start sprayin'.
  8. I always find myself often recommending Orion amp's for car audio - quite reliable and the price is definitely right. PS. The user flakko here, and myself, will probably be offering a package deal with his overstock Mark Antony amplifiers and my RL-p's.. but we're still hashin' out the details so don't come firing thousands of messages at me quite yet
  9. > when i subtract the ports volume from the box, > i subtract in entire volume of the inside of the aeroport right? Net internal volume, is the effective useable airspace by the subwoofer, not including the displacement of the driver itself, any bracing, the walls of the enclosure, including the entire port. Entire port meaning, the volume inside the port, as well as the volume of the material that makes up the port.. since obviously that material wouldn't be "useable airspace". > i have the 2 4 inch precision ports Two 4" round ports come in at about 25 square inches of cross-sectional area. Definitely not enough for two 15's, as you're ideally aiming for 35 square inches per RL-p15! With the flared precision ports, you can go a little lower, but I wouldn't go as low as 25 square inches even on a single RL-p15. Them b
  10. Doubt it.
  11. cool.. but your picture is making me dizzy!
  12. > And Bib Boys you are referring to the 15"s?
  13. When in doubt, you can always run to your local hardware store and rig up some PVC pipe in all sorts of lengths and sizes. Of course, they won't have that nifty built-in flare, but you could rig that up too if you're so inclined! I'd personally run with 2 cu ft per RL-p12, tuned to 28 Hz (at least 20 square inches of port area per driver would be ideal, since as I'm gathering, your woofers and port will be firing into the cabin of your ride, and you definitely wouldn't want to have port noise in there).
  14. I think Kyle (Mr. 007) had misunderstood your question and thought you were referring to our RL-s drivers. In my experience, I will never recommend 1500 watts on an RL-p series driver. Sure it can be done, but that is "runnin in the red" so far as I'm concerned, and unless you are very responsible in your listening habits, you could definitely fry the RL-p if you keep that much juice on it for too long. Not to mention, it's not necessary for great performance and output, and will instead likely push the driver so far that it will produce more distortion than it would off of comparatively less power. 700 watts on the RL-p is a very happy place to be, especially in a ported enclosure. No question that two RL-p's (12's or 15's) in a ported alignment will get louder than your sealed 13kv2's - but as people have suggested, you might just want to try throwin' those kv2's into a ported box first and if you're still unsatisfied then move up to the 15's. OR, if you're satisfied with output but yearn for better clarity, you could consider the 12" RL-p's, but honestly if you're going to upgrade, do it right and run with the big boys!
  15. Glad you're diggin' the new beast. More pic's!
  16. Any magnet will lose its strength under extreme heat... they have a tricked out oven down at the build house for just that!.. and yes, those neo's are Fu*kin' strong. I remember Thilo putting me to work on one of his prototype ovoid drivers one weekend, using a line of about ten 1" x 1" x 0.25" neo mag's, doubled stacked and I had nothing but sore fingers and frustration trying to get dem b
  17. Epoxy, silicone, any way you slice it just make sure that hole is patched up good and the remaining screws should keep the driver tight. If that fix doesn't stop all the leaks, try using some of [this stuff] around the mounting flange of the driver to seal up any weak spots. You might even consider sealing up all the previous screw holes, rotating the driver, and drilling new ones.. that or build a new box
  18. The main advantages for switchin' to neo would be to increase the Bl (which would be great from a marketing standpoint, as people don't seem to care that the Bl is constant throughout stroke on this driver, since at rest it seems comparatively less than others due to the minimum windings in the gap at that time), increased efficiency, and decreased weight. I'm pretty sure the RL-s uses more ferrite than the LA Storm series, so the reduced weight benefit should be even greater. Unfortunately, just for cost of parts, the neo motors are about a $60 increase, and going through the proper channels, my production would increase somewhere between $75-$100 per unit, which given the relatively slow sales of the driver in its present state, is a risky investment so far as I'm concerned. But, if people start buyin' em in mass, then I'm sure you will ultimately see the switch to neo as well as two other upgrades that will increase the driver's efficiency and practicality. I won't go into details on that, since I don't want people to be "waiting" for it, in case it never happens!
  19. The Eclipse linear motor driver will be using a considerably smaller coil.
  20. It is possible and has been discussed, however at this point in time the cost is prohibative - particularly given that most people aren't even ready to take the plunge for this beefy beast of a driver as is. This is of course subject to change as the linear motor design gets more mainstream publicity. The graphs are nice if you understand 'em, but are typically only provided on the engineering / OEM side of marketing, as the general consumer often isn't informed enough to extrapolate the data. When I first opened up shop I had posted three Dumax graphs on the parameters page for each of my initial stock of drivers, but after a couple months it was evident that most people didn't know how to take 'em due to all the curious emails I was receiving asking about 'em. Then I added some new drivers that I didn't have graphs for (ie. the RL-i8 and LM's) and ultimately pulled those images from my pages. Kyle says they broke the machine trying to measure the RL-s.. I wonder if that means they pulled a graph sucessfully or not - cause that is one driver where a comparative BL vs excursion graph would be nice.
  21. > "rl-x 8" Are those the correct specs for the current 8 out? Likely not, check our [website] when in doubt. > Any plans to expand the line in the future, or ya stickin' with 3 for a while longer ? Keepin' along the solid straightaway for a while longer.
  22. RL-m would've been the 7, yes.
  23. Don't forget the greens and your surfboard Good to see you here Kyle.. hope they aren't workin' ya too hard down there Did you guys lose that Klippel yet? I'll be headin' down there hopefully later this week. *crosses fingers that you have some tasty graphs for me*
  24. Not sure how the WinISD folks source their information.. but they seemed to have those param's in there before I even started shipping woofers, likely pulled from our proto website which was initially going to include a TC2, TC2+, TC7, & TC9 woofer variation. I ended up deciding that would be a little redundant and in the efforts of making my product line easier for the consumer to grapple, I dropped the smallest TC2 and moderate TC7 motor designs at launch.
  25. Decide based on sound, since the inverted style will allow for roughly 0.2 cu ft greater net airspace. Lookin' good, show us what it looks like once you get 'er in and fully dressed!
