  3. 2 8's could take a little more power compared to a single 10 or 12. i agree that he would definitely save money going with a single sub and thats the route he will probably go. until i see how much trunk space he is willing to give up, sub selection is pretty much in the air. thanks for the post on the amp. im also looking at some offerings from soundstream and refurbished kickers. im partial to kickers since i found all of mine super cheap. 2 x kx250.2s for 80 bucks each and a zx100.2 for 50 but i cant seem to find deals quite that good right now haha
  4. hell they look better then most coax's in the 50 dollar range
  5. excellent, thanks m5, i was hoping not to spend much on his stupidity
  6. concerning the rear speakers, stock speakers are toast.. need some cheap rear fill.. he's dead set on putting something in there. looking for cheap stuff
  7. i have some wire and things left over from his last car.. didnt get it all out since he couldnt pop the hood believe he wants to save space, 2 12's ported would probably fill up that trunk. a single 10 or 12 is also an option.
  8. looking to piece together a budget system for my brother. i need help selecting are the front components, maybe rear fill (might be left stock for now). small sub(s) pair of 8 (thinking sa8's or e8 v2's) and just the amp for the front (im thinking a 2 channel amp and run rear fill off hu). will also need a cheap hu with 2 sets of outputs(and ability to control subwoofer output level from hu) he wants speakers all around, fine by me but i plan to put something decent up front, could care less about the rear. goal is cheap decent shit that sounds half ass quarter ass decent.. this will be assembled over time. starting with hu, front speakers, and amp. then later sub. car is 04 nissan sentra. stock locations are 6-3/4" all around, not sure on depth. my choices so far. front stage (budget around 100 bucks) pg rsdc 6.5's or Bravox Audio CS60D for 120 -just by looks i think the bravox option will be the way to go but i've not seen reviews yet rear fill - has some stock speaker back there now that we could leave for now. but open to suggestions amp for front stage- (budget around 100 bucks) maybe i should look for used equipment but here is what i found new. --------amp-----------------------$ (prices from sonicelectronix, can post individual links if needed) -Soundstream TRX2.550 - 100 -Soundstream PCX2.540 - 100 -Crunch GPV 1000.4 - 95 -Crunch GPV 1600.4 - 114 -MB Quart DSC 480 - 120 hu (budget around 100 bucks) -> clarion w/ usb - $75 subs (budget will probably vary quite abit here between 100 and 250 dollars, just looking for suggestions) i should mention sub amp is currently this (kole audio qx1-3000d (this was going to used to power his 15 l7 before it failed, and before he totaled his last car.. needless to say we wont be using this amp anywhere close to full power. probably wire subs at like 4 maybe 8 ohms. sa-8 $130 each e8 - $90 each heard these are very nice 8s http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-GTO804-CAR-AUDIO-8-INCH-SUBWOOFER-SUB-804-FITS-AUDI-/380292180473?pt=Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures&hash=item588b2e29f9#ht_2513wt_1139
  9. <<<< hates chrome i vote #2
  10. depends on alot of things.. like how its installed... and loud compared to what?
  11. someone had to take over after Ant left..
  12. actually the leviathan can high pass and low pass on channel 3 and 4 from 80-4k and high pass channel 1 and 2 from 80-4k edit: new hu would be better though
  13. im looking into the W4's first (focusing on the titanium and underhung as you mentioned). i totally forgot how many W4 models there are... Titanium, poly, underhung, bamboo, and an aluminum which i think is new price wise, i dont mind spending more for the titaniums, or more on speakers in general. if spending a little more opened up a substantially better option in mid or tweeter? let me know. i figured my budget would give me a good price/performance ratio as far as tweeters go, i cant remember what a metal tweet sounded like compared to a textile tweet. honestly, i think i've never heard a decent metal tweet before. but of the tweeters i've owned (which is very few) i believe they've all been textile, the tweeter from the pg rsd component set probably being the best of the few i've heard. at this point im thinking ill go with the dayton tweet and titanium w4, but i have no plans to order for a week or 2.
  14. You are in over a lot of peoples heads on this board...but in a good way As with any setup that is really custom buying a single driver and listening isn't a terrible idea. Just make sure to enclose it properly. The 4" maybe small enough to run sealed instead of IB/AP. Normally I don't recommend that in a car, but considering the frequency range it isn't a bad idea like usual. i think i will start off sealed before i cut the carpet up...not that im afraid to cut up a car with over 180,000 miles on it. ill start another build log when i begin the install.
  15. started a thread on a new front stage, if you guys have some advice feel free to comment, m5 has it pretty much taken care of already. linky link
  16. wow you guys got a hell of alot more then here so far, only about 2inch or so here.
  17. x2 i dont like hearing much over 60 from my sub but i have decent midbass, start about 80 and go up and down.
  18. here are the speakers recommended by m5, anyone else want to chime in please do. tb w4 after adding the w4 to my cart, parts express says there is a backorder issue, no problem since im in no hurry to purchase and install. pretty sure m5 is referring to the titanium cone model but here is the bamboo cone model for comparison's sake tb w4 bamboo i believe this is the CSS driver he mentioned. 4.5" fullrange (sexy phase plug!) css fr125sr here are the tweeters 2 models for the dayton, dayton tweet 1 dayton tweet 2 aura nt1 aurasound nt1 any thoughts?
  19. must have missed the news, what vehicular did sean end up getting?
  20. sls in the doors , midrange in the kicks. yep ill look into mids you've recommended. i like where your going with this
  21. thanks for the help m5, here is a list of each cross over point and ill reference the range of frequencies for each one. 20k 16k 12.5k 10k 8k 6.3k 5k 4k 3.15k 2.5k 2k 1.6k 1.25k 1k 800 630 500 400 315 250 200 160 125 100 80 63 50 40 31.5 25 16 tweeter hp 25-20k mid lp 630-10k and hp 25-10k sub lp 25-10k and hp 16-250
  22. i thought about running something like these in the kicks based on zaph reviews, tang band w5 i build a mounting ring to see what size speaker would fit (to see if the tang band would fit) in the kicks and there is plenty of room for a 5.25. as far as the hu goes it has a hpf on the tweeter channel, and can band pass the sub and midrange. if you need specific points i can get them. and the slopes are 6 12 and 18 db
  23. previous set up was a 2way; sls 8 midbass in the doors w/ a kx250.2 powering them, and a Peerless 830986 on a kicker zx100.2 in/on the a pillars. plus the mj18 ib. hu is a clarion dzx785usb (i think thats the model number irrc) problems with previous setup were that it looked bad and my attempt to fg new pods didn't improve it. it was also lacking the upper midbass region, either the 3 wouldn't play low enough or the sls wouldn't play high enough. im looking to move the midrange to the kick's and add a tweeter to the a-pillars or kicks aswell(if i dont use a full range again). (note: since i had a set of polk tweeters laying around i threw them in the a-pillar to fill the hole that was already there. i hooked them up to the hu but i really dont use them. i was using them from 10k up with the 3" playing 10k and down, and they sound a little better then the 3" full range in the kicks. later i swapped in a the tweeters from a set of pg rsd comps, however one tweeter is damaged, the dome was pushed in, using a needle i think i fixed it.) the polks blew asschips, the pg's sound good imo i clarify how im doing the processing, im running the tweeter and midrange on separate channels and sharing the 3rd channel with the midbass and sub (using the hu to lowpass @ 250 and highpass @ 25, midbass amp highpass @ ~60 and subwoofer to lowpass @ ~60) yep its alittle rigged. im was thinking about getting one of these so its more legit, it would also open up some more EQ since the clarion HU only a 3 band parametric minidsp as far as amps go for the 3 way, i have 1 zx100.2 and 2 kx250.2 last think i should mention is that one of my 3 incher is damaged.. stuck my finger through it, pulled the surround off the basket and put a little fold in the cone but repaired it. so im still looking for a new set of midrange/fullrange regardless of whether or not i commit to a 3way front stage. budget, ill go 150 for midrange and tweeter maybe more (not including that minidsp if anyone thinks that it would be a good idea) i've looked at alot of speakers. i cant pick... so many options listening preferences are pretty broad. but i mostly listen rock, grunge, alternative rock, etc. my fabrication skills ok, still learning.. tried to fg dash pods and failed but i learned alot. (the mounting ring moved when i stretched the material over it)
  24. It would have to be pretty open for it to work ib, otherwise it'd sound like a leaky sealed box? as long as its sealed to the door and vents outside the vehicle it will work. i bet deadening is going to be be needed, check out sounddeadenershowdown.com, great products there. id guess a hand full of tiles and some close cell foam would suffice (better yet, start a tread in the sound deadening section) if you want to seal it up just make a fiberglass mold of the panel behind the subs and join that to the mdf.
