  1. ya i got a job and moved from pa to il so i need to get back to the log. no line driver was needed. the sls 8 are pretty amazing midbass drivers. however, you need to do lots of work to the doors to prevent rattles. i still have more work to do on that front. hopefully, i can get rid of the rattles and keep them running IB, if not then ill have to make fg enclosures on the doors. edit: they're good for 50-250. i run them 50-150 currently but that depends on how low your mid can mate up. you could run them down to 30hz if you dont need tons of bass or dont listen to music w/ much low frequency content. i should mention that output is limited by your doors ability to handle the bass with rattling to pieces

  4. i have a build log for my buick you could check out. i can link to it if you cant find it. i should probably update that log sometime too... my set up right now is tablet - behringer uca202 (usb dac) - minidsp 2x4 (2) - amps. using a bluetooth remote for volume right now until i figure out how to hack the steering wheel controls. also, I'm running a separate gain control (pac unit) for sub amp (some times i want more/less bass).
  5. yep, i think mike is refering to sub that may overrated from the manufacturer so in the case of underpowering the sub, its still over powered. in any case the number isn't important. if you pay attention to the sub (listen and smell) for signs of overpowering then you shouldn't have an issue.
  6. Awesome I appreciate that. As far as port its just a single slot port tuned at 32 hz with internal net at 4 cubes with displacement its around 3.6 cubic feet . I sound deadened the fire out of my trunk and door panels iit is way better than it was it doesn't buzz in the cab area but if you stand outside of the Car it sounds pretty wild. I still have a ton of deadener left about 75 sq foot its just such a pain getting everything when I get the time I deaden a little more as I go like I said though it has already helped tremendously . I want to stick with a 2 twelve setup as I listen to a lot of metal and have heard 15s get behind on that style of music but I do listen to a lot of rap as well hell even country but the lows I get are still pretty impressive . the three subwoofers I have been interested in are sq hds300, american bass xfl and possibly sundown sa 12 but I don't want to run the sa at 2400 watt I want to get full power from the amp on whatever I end up getting and the other sub's than the sa have 3 inch coils not sure if that makes a big difference??? port area is the height and width of the port. i still recommend your read sounddeadenershowdown.com, the info is invaluable to anyone in the hobby. the larger sub = sloppy bass is bs. been to a movie theater or music concert? how big are those speakers? its actually an issue with overall frequency response that responsible.
  7. Just remember the Thermal rating has absolutely nothing to do with power requirements, at all! I did my research and I understand that now but I guess I have a hard time thinking of buying a higher end sub and not running it max I guess I've been brainwashed by a bunch of bs that isn't accurate. But would it be suitable to get a higher end sub and not giving it max. It confuses me as to why people run almost double wattage at times and brag how much louder it is Under powering your woofer can lead to damage as the same as over overpowering due to damage from distortion..while they are some that are rated "for example" 1500 watts rms and can handle 2000 watts all day long..Not wise though to give 250 rms to a sub that is over not rated with a 750 rms..really all depends on the manufacture. IMO if the sub is from a reputable manufacturer than underpowering isn't an issue. just trying to avoid confusing the OP.
  8. sounds like you have more problems than wanting more bass. i'd chase down those rattle first. close celled foam between the trim panel and whatever its mounted too. read up on sound deadening at sounddeadenershowdown.com. i know you've listed the specs of your current enclosure but i haven't seen you mention the port area. just want to make sure you build the current box correctly. when i get back to my appt next week i can model some subs if no one else has helped you out.
  9. id model them for you but dont have access to my pc.
  10. you could play around with winisd and see how they perform against each other and with different box designs
  11. I like to listen to albums, not songs. Doesn't mean I don't skip songs, skip a ton but shit like Pandora is good for background music not listening. you can listen to albums on spotify. dont use it myself but might be worth checking out.
  12. It is sound deadened. Box is sub and port forward sealed off in the trunk. On a crescendo bc3500. I guess I could try a different box first. My electrical and everything is on point. Doesn't drop below 12.8 at full tilt. mlv?
  13. rather than buying a new sub you could sound deaden the vehicle. lowering the noise floor 3db would be the same as getting 3db more output from the sub, for example.
  14. and i thought my post count was bad... .
  15. yep, microsoft lost the hd dvd vs bluray fight.
  16. xbox one has that pass thru thing. you can "snap" a tv channel while you game. never tried it myself as i dont have cable. i think the ps3 when it came out was one of the cheapest bluray players at the time.
  17. currently building a headphone amp. next up HID retrofit for the buick (if new bulbs dont cut it).
  18. dont need much for my current apartment. I wont be tackling this project for a few weeks. just curious if i'm on the right path.
  19. Budget? 3-400 including amp.
  20. i'm considering building some speakers for my living room. any opinions on the Tritrix kit that PE sells? Looking for something that includes a knock down enclosure.
  21. same problem i had with partsexpress. felt obligated to spend 100 for free shipping. now they have $6 flat rate.
  22. never had a hdd or ssd fail on me yet. running two intel ssd since sept 09, no problems. also have a pair of WD blacks in raid 1. I'm hoping my laptop hdd fails at some point so i have a reason to stick a ssd in it.
  23. some laptops can add a second hhd/ssd by removing the cd drive.
  24. win 10 preview http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso
  25. i've heard of people using win10. might try a duel boot on my mac
