  1. Alright. Here is what I have to work with. The box will be for a 12" ICON. I want it ported to play low and deep. As you can see from the picture, the only dimensions I have play on are X and Y. I know nothing about round ports so help me out here. The ports coming out the top will be placed directly beneath my open 6x8 reardeck holes.
  2. I would like to make a vented box similar to this with the top ledge on it. The pic attached is of my current box. The front of the box is to the right. I'd like to make a ported box in the same shape with two ports each pointing out of the top directly through my open 6x8 speaker holes in the deck.
  3. Thanks, so whats the benefit of a second battery when the car is running?
  4. Yeah, I've done this before. It works well. As long as you don't care about looks.
  5. is an isolator or relay required for this? Also, what is the main bennefit? Just being able to play without the car on? Doesn't the alt have to run twice as long to recharge both batteries?
  6. I'll be needing some RCA to run from my HU to my amp. I have some that I got from parts express, but they seem pretty cheaply made.
  7. Wow, thanks. I never knew that about th ground noise. That helps a lot. I'll check out the Pioneers and Alpines today.
  8. I got tired of all this back and forth and order the last used Icon 12.
  9. fudge it, I just ordered the last used Icon 12. I try it in 1 cubed seal box when it arrives and build up a ported box later. I will need help with dimesions and tuning, but I'm sure that won't be a problem for you pros.
  10. I was under the assumption that higher voltage outputs required less gain on my amp for the same level of output. Was I making an ass for myself for thinking that?
  11. I have a unit I bought a couple years ago that I'm going to try and do a warranty exchange on. I think I paid a little over $200 for it. I could add another $200 on top of that, so $400 total. What does BB sell that is actually good? High voltage outputs (at least 4v) and ipod connection are extremely important.
  12. I've run a car amp off a car battery charger before. You'll only be able to get about 10 amps, but it will be suprisingly loud. Best advice would be to use a car battery for testing.
  13. You always fuse to the wire capacity. Anything else is pointless unless the individual componenets connected to said wire do not have their own fuses. The fuse inbetween the alt and the battery is protecting the WIRE. Not the battery. Not the alt.
  14. Alright. So that makes 1 vote for Icon.
  15. Goals are to install a sub in in the corner of my trunk. This requires a multi sided or glass enclosure. I want to be keep the ability to fold down my back seats and have access to my spare tire. Budget is $350 and JBL 1200.1 is my amp. There is no sub-sonic filter on my amp so ported is a problem anyway. I love low body shaking bass. I know I'm not going to win any comps with a single 15 sealed, but my trunk is to small for that anyway.
  16. First, let me start off by thanking this forum for dealing with all of my threads. They've honestly been all over the place. (IB, ported, sealed, etc) As you can tell I've been going from plan after plan trying to make my mind up, so I finally stripped my car's trunk today so I can make a final plan. I removed my current setup from my trunk today and took out all my panels, measured and laid out several cardboard cut outs. I can provide close to 2.5 cubes for a 15" sub. Havoc Icon Fi Q etc I know all of these subs will provide more than enough SQ for me. I honestly wouldn't know great SQ if it smacked me in the face. I can tell when I hear bestbuy crap though. So now I'm just concerned with SPL. Like I've said in my other threads, I'm working with 1200watts, of course I don't have to use all of them if the sub doesn't require it. Also, I want a 15" because I've always had 12"s and I want a change. So even though my space is limited, I refuse to go with a 12.
  17. Is this a good list of what I need to buy? I found it on another site * 1 gallon fiberglass resin & hardener (Home Depot, about $25. Comes with 2 tubes of hardener.) * 1 extra tube of hardener (Home Depot, about $6.00. The 2 tubes that come with the resin aren't sufficient unless you're working on a hot day.) * Fiberglass cloth (Home Depot, each package contains a 3' x 9' sheet. I used 5 sheets. About $6.00 per package = $30.00) * 1 quart Acetone for soaking brush and cleaning up (Home Depot, about $8.) * 1 paint brush, 2" wide or less, cut bristles to 1" length (Home Depot, about $1.50) * 3M spray adhesive (Home Depot, $don't remember) * Speaker enclosure carpet (Home Depot, $don't remember) * 5/8" or 3/4" MDF (I used a scrap piece I had lying around) * 24" wood dowel stick, 3/8" or 1/2" thickness (Home Depot, abu $3.00) * 1 piece of stretchy cloth (At least 14" x 10". I used an old t-shirt.) * Hot glue & gun (I used superglue, but hot glue would have worked better) * 60 grit sand paper * Duct tape * Cardboard (thickness of standard cardboard box) * 8 T-nuts, #10-32 (Home Depot, about $5.00) * 8 #10-32 screws (Home Depot, about $3.00) * Banana plugs (Radio Shack, about $4.00)
  18. Crap, I was hoping I could get away from having to worry about my interior. So where do you all get your supplies for glassing?
  19. I've attached a picture of the panel I need to make a box to fit in. I would love to be able to mold the box outside of the car, but I'm concerned with the trunk panel folding over and not keeping its proper shape. What are my options?
  20. I love those huge systems, but I'm not rolling in a SUV so I'll be limited to just one sub. Who here has just 1 12 or 15 havoc. How do you like it and what kind of numbers are you getting if you've ever been metered. How big is your box? thanks
  21. Thanks, just to make sure I'm on the right path. Icons are considered high output subs right?
  22. Thank you. I appreciate the replies. Loud to me a is a 12" Brahma in 2 cubes ported to 32hz powered by 1200 watts. Thats what I used to have and it was awesome. Thats what I'm trying to achieve.
