Sound deadener, car doors and best practices... wanting to root out t
LOL, totally unfair!

mirror rattle?
I'd suggest taking a look at removing the mirrors and treating just them if that is truly the only thing rattling. I mean if everything else is solid, why spend the time, effort, and money treating something that isn't the issue? Two SDS Tiles and BOOM problem solved.

Sound deadener, car doors and best practices... wanting to root out t
Personally, this is how I would approach it. Start with 25% coverage and see what the resonance level is at this point and bump the coverage up to a MAXIMUM of 50% if need be. I just recently tackled an AC unit and ended up going with 30%-35% panel coverage, took some time and effort but well worth it. Add the MLV inside the door to help block the outside noise as well as combat the rear projected sound waves. It may be difficult to get the MLV in there, but well worth it. Sealing off the door cavity with sheet metal/perf metal/plexi... I'm a fan of doing this because it always seems to improve the SQ and bass response of the door speakers. Of course always cover the openings in a way that is reversible. That's my opinion.

Team Second Skin - Looking For Members!
The team as it stands is small, so doing this contest will give everyone across the country a fair chance to become part of the team. Of course we have final say and we may invite some people onboard just because. But allowing the forum members (your peers) vote on who they would like to see at these meets and competitions helps give us a good a bit more info about the individual. Obviously if the person is an asshat none of their peers will vote them through.

Team Second Skin - Looking For Members!
We're flexible on the decals. We'd like to have at least one on the front or rear window.

Team Second Skin - Looking For Members!
That is right, Second Skin Audio is looking for four individuals to become part of Team Second Skin and aid us in our quest for world domination! The contest starts today, so please read and understand all of the rules, it'll make your and our lives that much easier. This contest is posted on several forums, so please only one entry per person. If you frequent another forum more often, I would suggest entering over there instead. The contest consists of three rounds. Round 1: Initial entry Round 2: Member voting Round 3: Final selection RULES Round One: To enter for your chance to become part of Team Second Skin, please post a video showing off your build(s), awards/trophies, whatever you think best showcases your ride, your skill level, and yourself. We're looking for the complete package. If your attitude stinks, we don't want ya. Those who don't have access to a video camera can still enter, just post a hell of a lot of pictures, a little bit about yourself, and why you think you should be part of Team Second Skin. Entries must be posted within 30 days of this thread being started. Round Two: After 30 days of collecting entries, those who have followed the rules from Round One will be gathered up and a new thread started listing all of the entries. The members of the forum will then vote on who they would like to see at meets, competitions, and to be part of Team Second Skin. Voting will last for 14 days after this thread has been started. Round Three: After 14 days of members voting, we will take the winner of Round Two and enter them with the winners from the other forums where this contest is being held. Out of all of the winners from Round Two, Second Skin Audio will choose at least four to become part of Team Second Skin. Winners will be notified via PM. A winners list will also be posted on each forum where this contest is being held. EXPECTATIONS Members of Team Second Skin will be required to abide by the following. - A "Team Second Skin" decal must be installed on the front and rear windows of your vehicle. Size of the decal will range depending on the size of your windshield/rear window. A smaller "Second Skin Audio" decal must be placed on both driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. So a total of four decals must be placed on the vehicle, one on the windshield, one on the rear window, one of the passenger's side (location at your discretion), and one on the driver's side (again the location at your discretion). All of these decals will be provided to you at no cost. Second Skin themed paint jobs are optional and must be approved by us. Of course you would have to pay for this yourself. - You are required to hit at least four big shows each year in whichever organization you are competing in. - You must check in and post your results with pictures and or video after you've competed, within a timely manner. - Please try to hit events with your teammates as often as possible. Of course this isn't always doable because of location or the fact that you might be in two separate events, but you should at least try to support your fellow teammates. PERKS Of course there are perks for being part of Team Second Skin! - 50% off everything Second Skin Audio has to offer. - Decals and other promotional items. These will be sent out periodically. - First in line to receive and test new products. - Street cred. - And any other stuff we can think of. THE FINE PRINT Second Skin Audio reserves the right to terminate this contest at any point and time. Second Skin Audio also reserves the right to boot any team member that is unable to abide to the EXPECTATIONS set forth or if they do not conduct themselves to our high standards. If we get reports or see first hand that you are being an ass or a jerk, we can and will remove you from the team without warning. This "Team Second Skin" is new and completely separate from any previously formed team sponsored by Second Skin Audio. The team that was created by the previous owner is no longer the official team. If anyone has any questions, please email Ken, Max, or myself to prevent cluttering up this thread. Let The Contest Begin, Round One! Now that all of the rules are out of the way, lets get this baby rolling! To enter please post in the following format. Real name: i.e. John Doe Organization in which you are or will be competing in: i.e. USACi Comp vehicle: i.e. 1984 VW Rabbit Cabriolet Current setup: i.e. Two 18" DC Lvl 4 XL, etc. Why you should be part of the team: i.e. Post video(s), pictures, and whatever you think best showcases you and you're ride. Little build in a '99 Chevy 1500 for a co-worker
Dang that does look good. And I agree, even if you could have talked him into spending just $50 bucks on some sound deadener it would make a noticeable difference. Eh, it'll give you guys something to do later down the road. Still can't believe you were able to get 1/0 in the stock tracks... I had issue running 12 gauge in mine.

thanks for the sponsorship
Glad we finally got you taken care of. Good luck!

Damplifier Pro Confusion
And here I am in Idaho enjoying the upper 80s and avoiding the heat for once.
-
Damplifier Pro Confusion
Man... it drives me nuts having stuff sit around for a few days waiting to be installed. A year and a half?! Good luck and have fun!
-
Damplifier Pro Confusion
Yeah it makes a hell of a difference, but like I said I don't think that was the reason for the change.
-
Damplifier Pro Confusion
The black anodized foil also allows for installation in sunny weather without you going blind but that wasn't the reason for the change, just a happy result.
-
Alpha Damp vs. Damplifier Pro
I believe that it will be/is silver.

Second Skin 4th of July Sale!
4th of July sale has been extended thru 7/8/11! Have a great and safe 4th everybody!
-
Alpha Damp vs. Damplifier Pro
Alpha Damp is projected to be 60mils thick with a 10mil foil. That means the foil is a solid 1/6th of the total thickness of the product, major stiffness! And I believe that twenty tiles per pack, totaling close to 21 sq. ft. Just stay tuned for more info.

Fatmat Rattle Trap?
As a rep I can't really say a whole lot about other companies, but there are several of them out there that are doing a great disservice to the entire sound deadening industry by allowing such BS statements to be posted on their websites. Be it false claims, fudged specs, or flat out lies, it hurts everyone. Unfortunately one of the few ways to combat the sh*t they are spreading is to constantly be on the look out for these sort of threads and try to bring some clarity and correct information into them. On the plus side, when people post here on SSA, the community as a whole is intelligent and posts correct and knowledgeable info and I know I really appreciate it (less typing for me!).

Fatmat Rattle Trap?
Dumping fuel on the fire much? These threads pop up on literally every forum about once a week so there really isn't any reason to continue this discussion. Tremonic decided to use FatMat. It's his money and his vehicle. I assume he looked at several of the other options that were available at the time of purchase and decided to go with FatMat for whatever reason (assumably because of the price point).
-
Fatmat Rattle Trap?
Based on FatMat's own guide and installation method, heat is not required, just simply clean and apply. So I would have to argue that 99% of the people using their product are installing it correctly and this product still has an extremely high failure rate. FatMat, RattleTrap XXX, and even their Mega Mat products are all fairly low on the Sound Deadening Scale of Awesomeness* (*patent pending). All sport a fairly thin aluminum constraint layer too. In this day and age, with all of the information that is out there on these products there shouldn't even be any hesitation as to which products you should really be looking at. Yet still people will continue to go the cheap route and slap on two or three layers of sh*t.

Trunk rattle/vibration
LOL exactly. Give me a few hours so I can build the ultimate sub box, a 22 gauge steel enclosure, corner joint welded together. It'll sound amazing!
-
Trunk rattle/vibration
You also need to be realistic at the goals you are trying to achieve. Sound deadening can only do so much. This is especially true when you're looking at flex issues. People have and continue to try to prevent flexing with layers and layers of sound deadening mat... and that is just not going to happen. And I totally agree that moving the sub and changing which way it fires would probably help.

Sound deadening on a budget?
11¢, you forgot to add the cost of the release paper.

Sound deadening on a budget?
How many years have people been saying this, yet so many people still insist on going cheap. My favorite are the people who go with a $1 sq. ft. product and use three layers of the stuff... didn't that just make that $1 sq. ft. product $3 a sq. ft.? Math fails people like that. Have you heard anyone complain about the performance of SDS's or Second Skin's products? Hell you can even throw Dynamat Xtreme in there too. The only complaint I ever seem to hear is price...

Trunk deadner
I will admit I was one of those fools that put vibration mat on the back of my license plate all those years ago... what a waste. I've since moved onto using CCF too. What about putting some of your EBR around the perimeter of the license plate?
