New BM information
How soon until these subs will be done? I'm so glad you're designing a shallow mount 12" sub! I was headed towards being stuck with a pioneer, kicker or sq10 by edesigns. Do you have a price estimate yet and will early adopters get a discount?

Aveo + SI mag vids!
What do you think it would do at 45 hz?

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
Well once I get the new amp and after market alternator my sub will get 1600 watts rms. I wonder if I will notice a difference in the sound of my 15? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wow you're right about the pricing on the HO alternators. It be $400. I'm going to go with the other place db electric which you didn't give a great rating but a decent rating.

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
I'm having a hard time understanding why the amp failed now. I realized to day that my inline fuse is 60amps and it didn't blow. If I was pushing this amp anywhere near the 850 rms watts shouldn't the fuse have broke?

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
Anyone have clues on what damage occurred and what it would look like in the amp? It looks like new inside. Thanks a lot for the replies everyone. How much would alternator be from HO $350?

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
Do you know if any of these companies make good alternators or can you direct me to a company? It's for a 97 SL2 saturn http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SATURN-200-...itemZ8069477495 http://www.highoutputalternator.com/ http://www.highoutputalternator.com/online-catalog.aspx http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=8215 Also I opened up the amp because it will cost $185 with shipping to fix so I'm just going to buy another new amp that has a higher rms rating for $100 more. Anyway what should I be looking for inside for signs of damage? I see no burn marks nothing seems to be melted down. No electrical gone bad smell. As I may have stated in a previous post the power light comes on and the protect light is off. All the fuses are okay. Maybe I shouldn't have turned off the amp when it started to cut out because now I hear nothing lol.

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
Damn. So chances are I need to get an aftermarket alternator? Where would I get one of those for a saturn 97? I bet having my head lights on put it over the edge. What about one of the batteries designed for heavy power drain would that work? I loved that amp. I believe I got it for around $220. Unfortunately the place I bought it from no longer carries planet audio amps (online store).

Who's liable? Sub broke Amp!
Well I'm listening to my music loud last night and noticed my lights seems to be dimming quite heavily, more than I recall. Then after playing music for about 10 minutes my sub cuts out then comes back on and cuts out. So I turn the sub off. I figured maybe a tinsel lead failed because I didn't smell any burned voice coil scent. Then I start to think. Man that sub was expensive how could it break like that on me? I'm only feeding it 900 watts rms. I thought you could power this sub into the 1kw range. Then I start thinking about how much shipping will cost to send it back to stereo integrity. Today after school I decide to check the sub. I hook it up to a shelf stereo and the sub works! I then take a spare sub and hook it up to the sub amp and it doesn't work. I WANT TO KNOW HOW STEREO INTEGRITY PLANS ON COVERING THE COST OF THAT BROKEN AMP!!!???!! Just kidding. I'm actually insanely impressed that the sub didn't fail at the time the amp failed (dirty signal). When I took the sub out I was thinking how could this massive thing break? I guess the answer is it didn't. What would cause an amp to fail? My external cooling fan setup was temporarily broken but the amp wasn't on that long and it was only like 70 degrees out. I checked the fuses to the amp and none are blown. I checked my fuse at my split off point and it is fine as well. The power light on the amp is on and the protect light is off. Any ideas? Would an amp fail due to lack of juice from the alternator? If so please explain why. It's a planet audio amp and I've had it around 5 years I believe.

15" mag causing battery failure
I don't think it's an electrical drain from a device staying on because that would just cause the battery to go dead. My battery left a large puddle of battery acid, not typical of the battery being drained from some unit not shutting off. The alternator is charging the battery as I have daytime running lights and have driven the car for a few days without any slow engine turnover. Since no one else seems to have had a battery problem like this with their high current drawing systems I'm guessing that it was just a messy battery failure. We'll see how long a $34 battery lasts from costco.

15" mag causing battery failure
So you think I'll be okay turning the stereo up with the new battery? I just don't want another one to fail like the last one because it makes a mess and takes a while to clean up before you can install the new battery. Nothing is hooked up incorrectly; I've had this setup running for over 2 years, the only change was bridging my amp down to 1 ohm for the d2 15" which caused a considerable increase in dimming of the lights compared to my old system that had the amp running at 2 ohms. I turned my sub up briefly and it gets even louder than it had gotten before the battery failure but I was afraid to leave it turned up. Do those Optima (or whatever they're called) batteries really make a difference? Are they more rugged/ last longer?

15" mag causing battery failure
Well after running my 15" mag for a while I noticed recently that it seemed like it was running out of juice when I'd turn it up. It was like it wanted to get louder but couldn't. My lights at night seemed to dim really bad. Then a few days ago I go to turn my car on and the battery is almost completely dead and the engine won't turn over. I didn't leave any electrical on overnight. I got a jump and the battery seemed to work to start the car two more times that day but I left my stereo off so there was no strain on the electrical system. I lifted the battery out to replace it and there was a large puddle of battery acid in the battery tray. I had to use all kinds of baking soda to neutralize all the acid, it was even on the engine block of my car. My question is, will excessive current draw cause a battery to fail/ explode? Does anyone know where I can pick up a high current alternator for a 97 Saturn SL2? My current setup is pulling around 1250 watts rms or (104 amps) and I usually have my stereo cranked as most of my driving is freeway. Also since I've replaced the battery it seems like my system isn't being choked off.

db drag at stop light
Your system would definitely blow mine away. I think this is going to be my new routine. When someone is at a stoplight with the windows down and their subs hitting, I'm just going to turn mine up and blast them away. Maybe they'll think twice about turning their system up again at a stop light. I wish I could fit 2 15" SI d2's just to see how insane it would be.

db drag at stop light
Well usually when I'm at a stop light I turn my sub off so I don't annoy anyone. But some other guy was blasting his bass at the stop light. So I figure why not embarass him or give him a taste of his own medicine. I crank my 15" way up and a matter of seconds later he stopped playing his. Then when I stopped playing mine he tried turning his up and so I cranked mine up and left it cranked up. It was pretty fun. Wasn't anywhere near my house so no worries of getting ripped off. The best part was the guy was probably running 2 10's or 2 12's as he had blazer style truck and couldn't keep up. By the way, don't know if I posted this or if I thought about posting it, but do any of you know a really strong rear view mirror? My sub has worn my current mirror out I think because it just keeps falling down.

Got The Sub thanks Nick
I don't think I can sell it now. I've fallen in love. It does everything I ask it to. I can play it quiet with nice sq. I'm just waiting for someone at a stoplight to role next to me blasting their sub then I'm going to let mine lose. It's like the sub adapts to every kind of music. Like it knows how to play rap and how to tighten up for kick drums in rock. I've turned it up loud enough to where my ears hurt afterwards, but I don't think I've maxed the sub out yet. Before I do this though I want to make sure my gains are set good. But really there's no need to play it any louder. I need to find a place with an oscilliscope or whatever it called.

Got The Sub thanks Nick
Yeah it sounded decent in the 1.25 cu ft. Then I put it in the 2.5 cu ft enclosure I built and wow!! It's almost frustrating trying to explain in words how good it sounds. Still don't have it dialed in yet either!

Never heard a SI Mag D2...help me imagine it
Words can't describe it. Incredible. This 15 is so clean yet gets crazy loud. It feels like my car is moving (like a wave is rolling through it when certain bass lines hit) or jelly like when the low bass hits on certain songs. Toss in some rock with tight kick drum and it plays it great. Put in rap and the sub wangs. Haven't played classical yet but with some of the rock I've played I'm sure it will sound great with classical music. I can't compare it with any of the subs listed because I haven't owned them. I've heard a w6 in a shop but people say you have to hear it in a car. In the shop I thought my 2 ed 10k's got louder and sounded better than the single 13" (I believe) w6. It was also in a custom jl box. Anyway this 15" magnum puts my 10's to shame so that gives you an idea.

Got The Sub thanks Nick
I've had my sub for a while now. Finally completed the box and put it in. Ran it for about 2 hours at low volume in a tiny box 1.25 is cu ft. Turned it up in the new box and what gives?! This thing sounds worse than my 2 ed 10's. I was playing a burned copy of dave matthews. Maybe the sub can't breathe in the trunk (not big enough trunk). So I open rear seat and sound improves. Then toss in some rap. Wow!!!! That is one crazy loud 15" sounds good too. Then I put in Mr. A-Z and it sounded great very tight bass response. But then I noticed something I had my volume dial for the sub turned all the way down and it was too boomy. Couldn't turn vol control on head unit up past about 27. The bass boost had to be turned down. Unfortunately I have to pull the massive sub out of my trunk to do this. So I go to adjust bass boost and it was hardly on so I turned it all the way off. Played the sub again and it sounded flawless. SQ was incredible played the dave matthews again and it sounded great. I still have to turn the gain down a tad because as I said the vol control for the sub amp is turned off and the hu sub vol is set to -4. This sub doesn't need any bass boost help from the amp that's for sure. I think this sub is more efficient than my 2 10's because I'm having to lower the gains and turning the bass boost off. CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS! BUT I MAY HAVE TO SELL IT. IT TAKES UP ALL MY TRUNK SPACE. I DON'T THINK I CAN AFFORD TWO OF YOUR 12'S. What kind of db difference would there be between 1 15 and 1 12? I'll send you an email to see how much I can get a single 12 for.

Things I got today!
Hey why did you buy a planet audio sub? Just kidding. Before you expand those pics the sub logo looks like a planet audio logo.

Will bad box damage sub?
I actually had this problem by my place. The audio store said their box was 1.5 cubes I believe. THey wanted to sell it to me for around $50. Now I'm making one for a little over $20 that will be the optimum size. I'm getting more for less. Then again my dad has all the tools to do it.

My new babies!
I'm guessing it is made out of a more pure form of copper and is oxygen free? But you also have those speaker wires that are braided for some kind of cancellation or something. Rockford fosgate was doing it a while back not sure if they still are. Do you think we'll ever see gold speaker wire?

12" SI Mag review
What kind of car, is it a hatchback? I see your from Texas, I might head out to Dallas once I finish school. I think it would fit my lifestyle better than CA. Funny I've lived in CA my whole life, but can't take the housing prices, traffic and environmental insanity (have to waste a lot of gas getting to a location where you can ride a dirtbike legally). Anyway awesome review. I'm still in the break in process so I have a little while before I get to know my 15". I'm running it sealed as well. I've always been a sealed fan and probably always will be. I listen to too wide a range of music to use anything else.

REVIEW TIME >_<
I'm scared I might lose control and buy a second 15" or go to a dual 12" setup. But I have to at least break my current one in and hear its potential.
