  1. Wow! I thought my k's had good sq. If this is any indication wow! I've got it turned down and even in the insanely small box it is running in (probably 1.5 cubes) this thing is sounding nice. Hopefully when I turn the speaker up it will maintain the sq. There isn't much cone movement at all with the volume I'm playing it at (I can hear bass being produced but I don't see the cone doing anything). I did seal off the two holes that the box had so that doesn't have anything to do with the sub not moving now. Should I turn it up more or just leave it where it is. To give an idea of how hard I'm driving this sub, my previous k's I has the remote volume control dial running from the amp turned about 3/4 when I was driving my old subs hard. Currently I have the it turned all the way to the minimum setting and my hu volume is about 2/3's of what I was playing it at before. I guess my question is, by break in am I trying to get the surround and spider loosened up and does the cone need to be moving a decent amount for this break in to occur? Sorry probably a stupid question. If you already wrote about this on how to break in the new mags and the purpose behind it, just put a link to it.
  2. I figure it will sound like crap with the $15 box I have from kragen from another sub setup I purchased just as a joke. THe box isn't sealed and has holes/slots as I my previous post states. But I just want to get the sub moving as soon as I can that way I'll be able to turn it up sooner. THanks for input, I almost waisted money making a 2 cube box for it. Space is no consideration if it will sound better in 3 cubic ft I'll do three. Otherwise I'll go for the 18"X18"X18" sealed box, which should give me around 2.5 cubic ft. I have to buy the wood for the box maybe tomorrow. I bet the wood will be more expensive now since I hear there is a shortage due to the hurricane hitting New Orleans.
  3. mine didn't come in foam.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> uhhh....that's impossible. Every driver shipped out is packaged in blue foam on top and on bottom of the driver. If yours didn't have foam you would have a messed up motor. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The packaging job, freaked me out a little as I don't trust UPS being gentle with packages. I figure they toss them around; hopefully the foam was enough. We will see once I get a chance to hook it up.
  4. Well I'm going to use the garbage box until I can build a sealed box this weekend. Do you think my current box will damage the sub at all? I plan on making the sealed box 18"X18"X13" which will put me around 2 cubic ft. or should I go 18"X18"X18" which will give me 2.5 cubic ft? It will be sealed because my main thing is sq and I listen to all types of music from classical, jazz to rock to only a little rap now.
  5. Well I received it today and was going to use my garbage box to break it in. The box is very small and I don't expect good output or sq but it is just for break in. My question is, this cheap box came with plastic carrying handles that are recessed into the box and the sub wouldn't clear them, so I had to remove them. I now have two 3-3/4"X 2-1/4" slots in the box. Will this damage my sub? I don't plan on playing at high levels in this box.
  6. Edit: Received sub today, but they came really late 7:10 PM. Post it on ICIX and then put the link over here so we can see what happens.
  7. Crack open a nice cold Budlight you real man of genius.
  8. Well my situation is a little different. The only sub I've ever ran is a 10 and I'm used to the way they sound. Now I totally skipped running 12's and went straight to a 15. If it has quick response like the 10's I have I'll be fine.
  9. I just hope the 15's sound good and have quick response. I've nevered owned a 12 and I've decided to jump all the way to a single 15 in a sealed enclsoure. Might have been a mistake. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.
  10. I still have to build a box, and I'm broke right now so won't be doing that for a while. I do have a 1/2" thick 15" box that's crap that I can run it in gently for a little while.
  11. Hey don't say that. I could have got a w6 for under $300. I wasn't impressed but that was in the store and people say that tells you nothing.
  12. Don't have the money for an o-scope. How many shops actually have an o-scope? How much do you think they'd charge to dial in your amps?
  13. This is an interesting topic. My hu says that it puts out 5v on the preamp outs but according to my amp I have them setup for an hu that puts out around 2 volts. I have no distortion in my mids and highs and no clipping in my subs. I will say that I currently have the sub level at the deck set to 0 and it's settings range from (-6 to +6). I had to do a similar thing to the last deck I had that stated it put out 5.5v on the preamp outs. I've had my current subs and mids and highs for around 3-4 years and have yet to blow a speaker, but maybe this is because I'm sensitive to how the speakers sound on a particular song. If a song makes the speakers sound like they are distorting I'll adjust accordingly at the deck. Maybe my problem is the amps I have (planet audio) understate the voltage so that it is impossible to cause clipping if you are following the voltage numbers on the amp. For example if your deck says it puts out 5v and you set the amp to 5v, the 5 volt setting on the amp can really be used for a deck that is putting out 6.5v but they do this so that you can't cause clipping if you go by what the amp says (if that makes any sense to you).
  14. I have a feeling we're getting very close. I'm thinking the subs will be shipping in the next 2 weeks.
  15. Maybe. But you're presuming that they are correct on their estimate for when they will get them in. Might not happen until mid to lat August. You never know.
  16. Yes. It had a kevlar cone or so called kevlar cone. The voicecoil got messed up and was rubbing against the magnet. It wouldn't put out any sound when this happened.
  17. I had a dream on Monday night about getting my new magnum. It was a nightmare though. I listened to it and it wasn't as loud as my current system setup and didn't sound as good. Fortunately I woke up. I'm pretty sure this won't be the case in real life as I bought a $20 15" to mess around 1 time and it was a little quieter and didin't have the range of my current 2 10's and didn't go as low as my 10's. This 15" sub's voice coil fried in 1 week or less of use.
  18. Lucky! Did you get a tracking number or did it just show up at your door step?
  19. What should I use to seal the joints in the box if I make one myself?
  20. This upper bass issue worries me.
  21. Yeah the tinsel leads that I had a problem with were on some not so good subs I got from crutchfield. It happened to around 7 subs I believe. They had thin wire though and one of them the tinsel lead wire was too short in my opinion.
  22. So the prototype beat two momos (I believe I saw this in someother post) and it has defects!? That's awesome if I understand this correctly.
  23. Noticed in those pictures the sub isn't using woven tinsel leads. Is there a reason? Aren't you worried about tinsel slap? Also I've always had problems with speakers that didn't have the woven tinsel leads (the tinsel leads would break).
  24. Actually all those comments are on their site. As for matching the performance I figure the new SI will win. Not to put ED down. I currently have two of their flat cone 10's in a sealed box and they get pretty loud and I know other people have had reliability issues but mine have been fine. I know someone that bought their new 13kv2 and the sound quality impressed along with how loud it got for a single 12/13". It played all types of music including classical very well. I sounded like you were listening to a live classical performance. My 10's on the other hand sound good with anything but classical. They just don't seem to respond or reproduce it well. Anyway yeah I figure the SI 15" although I've never owned their speakers will outperform the 16ov2. This is going to be awesome. I'm going to run the 15 in a sealed box hopefully it will be louder than my 2 10's and sound better. I will be getting 250 watts more than my 2 tens that received 600 rms total. I love the internet sub companies. I don't know if I'll ever buy another sub from a store like circuit city, best buy or good guys. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh if I'm looking for SQ out of this SI 15" I'm guessing I should run close to a 2.2 cubic feet box. Am I right? Or should I run 3 cubic feet? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can run whatever sounds best to you. You may find you like a larger, boomier enclosure. There are a lot of variables. As far as the compariosn is concerned, he he. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are these current up to date specs for the new 15's? http://www.stereointegrity.com/Magnum15.html
