yeah it's just hardboard with 1 layer of glass on the back so it wouldn't bend or droop when I pulled the fleece. and yes I am surprised that dropping the face once would damage it that bad, I've dropped many things including other faces and they held up MUCH better than that...

I have the San Francisco CD72 and it is crap, I dropped it ONCE!!!! and now the faceplate falls off at arbitrary moments. I'm really just not impressed with the unit as a whole... I can't wait to replace it. I list that Blau as my biggest audio mistake ever, and I used to think audiobahn was good... so that should say alot about how I feel about this H/U...
