i've been around some pretty amazing fires, including the 1991 oakland hills fire. the fire we have burning now, is the most hellish, awful, terrifying fire i've ever seen. i took this pic last night with a broken point n' shoot digital. it doesn't look like much but those flames from that hotspot were 8-10 miles away and shining through a shit ton of smoke. the flames are a couple hundred feet high and blowing laterally for hundreds of feet at a time. i watch a home literally vaporize last night.
