Maybe I'm just getting old and bitter. Maybe I'm maturing. Or maybe it's just my depression talking. But I'm almost tired of car audio anymore. Everything is a hassle. Any setup I'd actually want to have in my car would require a major modifications and about two months of installation. Running wire is a pain in the ass. Sound deadening can kiss my ass. Cramming yourself into positions and spaces you never thought possible to install anything is getting old. And you do all this work just to shove some overpriced audio equipment into an acoustic hell hole that will sound worse than even a mediocre bookshelf setup. My god...what the hell have I been thinking the past 7 years I'm half tempted to ditch most of my car equipment and switch my focus on home audio. I don't spend nearly as much time in my car as I used to (like, went from hours/day to minutes/day). The setup is never freaking finished anyways....always a constant work in progress (read: constant headache). Home audio just seems so much...nicer. Acoustically better enviornment. No major modifications to anything. If you want to change the location of your speakers....just slide the damned things across the carpet to a new spot. Want to switch speakers? No door panel removal, etc etc. Pop off a grill, grab a screwdriver and your work is done. No spending hours cramped into a blazing hot vehicle in 100* heat, parked directly in sun light.....spend a majority of your time in my nice, air conditioned house. And the DIY selection is almost limitless. Having no space restrictions (within reason) would be a blessing for once. And the more I think about it....the more I talk myself into the idea of ditching car audio in pursuit of home audio/theater. But I know as soon as I make the "transition", the car audio bug will bite again and I'll kick my self in the ass.......so it seems almost not even worth it to try. And I surely don't have the funds to do them both. I don't know....I just felt like ranting and thinking out loud. Thanks for listening.
  2. Think I found my next home theater fronts: http://www.objext.com/Dayton8.htm For the cost of the parts, really a hard deal to beat even if they only sound half decent. Maybe toss my Rl-p into HT duty with them Nice sized ported box tuned loooowwwww
  3. I give up........
  4. Funny. I was just coming here to say the same thing....LOL
  5. anybody got a gun I can borrow?
  6. 125w x 2 should be all that's needed if you stick with good 4ohm drivers (mids atleast....due to the tweeters higher sensitivity 8ohm will still work good). Hell, even ~60w to most 8ohm mids would be great on all except the real power hungry ones (like the Dayton Reference). Max Fidelity MF-170-75L/4 is a good 4ohm midbass driver that is supposed to be very similar in sound to Dynaudio. For infinite baffle setup (i.e. in your doors) you would want the high Q version: http://www.meniscusaudio.com/products/Meniscus.cfm Peerless HDS, Vifa MG, Seas CA18 and L18, Morel and Usher all make great mids that would work. Max Fidelity Neo30, LPG 25 and Seas (can't remember model # off hand) are all small dome tweets that would work. Morel has some large format tweets that are great.
  7. What ya looking for??
  8. Got my new box done. Going to have one of the 15" Coustic DR subs up and running tommorrow. Also realized that I should have the box from my old stereo (consisted of four 12's) laying around at my dad's house. Should be able to just plug up 3 of the holes, drop the Rl-s in the 4th and have ~4-5cuft for it to play in. Saves me having to build a box for it when it's my turn to play
  9. Okay..well, let me ask you this (you can wait to answer till you're sober ): Two amps. Ones a class A. Ones a Class D (full range). Both measure to have a frequency response of +/-1db from 20-20khz, THD of below .1%, power output is identical, set for the same gain structure, damping factor is sufficient (>50) on both amps, and both have inaudible noise levels. Slew rates are likewise both in above the sufficient level. Will those two amps still sound different? If so, why? For this, we'll presume that no internal processing is in use (crossover, equalization/bass boost, etc). Nick must be drunk...he misspelled a word
  10. As of now I have full intentions of making it over there for atleast one day of the festivities. And if you are going to be there aswell, I would indeed like to meet you in person.
  11. WTF....why is this forum so dead here lately? We need a good technical debate going in the advanced section. Someone think of something interesting to talk about
  12. Great news Kent. Keep us updated on your thoughts and experience.....
  13. I "pad" my shipping costs when I ebay something. But that's mainly as a way to recoup the $5-$10 ebay fee
  14. All of them....except my two ofcourse
  15. Holy chit it's dead in here tonight.....
  16. It wasn't even just LMT vs XBL^2. It was just an "in general".....everything from Faraday rings to underhung to LMT to just a pretty damn flat BL curve for a standard motor
  17. The only thing Hifonics makes that's worth two chits in a bucket is the Gen XX series. They took a good name and turned it into a majorly sub-par brand. Autotek also is, for the most part, not comparable to the Autotek of old. If they do the same with MBQ.....well...... MBQ may be designing the speakers, but they'll still have the parent company, Maxxsonics, telling them what to make and how to make it. And thus far I think it's pretty apparent that high quality isn't the first thing on Maxxsonic's mind. Yes, I'm a pessimist.
  18. He knows his chit, though...or at least from what I've read of his line array work on CAF. Who knows. He just comes off as a cocky arseho, especially in that particular thread ... That he does. Ofcourse, I can't complain too much. From what I'm told, that's how I come off a majority of the time
  19. the one that isn't here anymore...lol..out of country investment scam type of thing.. Dammit!! You ruined my chances of getting rich quick!!
  20. What opportunity thread?
  21. So bypass her and go to the root of the problem
  22. Well, if they do with MB Q what they did with the Hifonics and Autotek names.....I think we can kiss MB Q goodbye as far as quality mid-line priced products go.....
  23. Time to put your foot down and tell them what's what. Either they clean up after themselves and obey your rules, or find somewhere else to stay. If the wifey gets mad at you for it....she'll get over it. And if she doesn't, well....then she must not have much respect for you or your sanity, which makes her a non-keeper anyways.
