Still planning on sending around a unit for testing??- sub phase
Actually, that's quite incorrect By switching the phase of the subs, you could theoretically (and in reality) move the subs perceived positioning by around 6 foot since phase adjustments work as sort of a psuedo-time alignment. If you are having problems with perceived "up front bass", switching the polarity of the sub could help integrate it with the rest of the system and bring the bass more "up front" as well as smooth out the sub to midbass integration. Really, as req said, about the only thing you can do is fiddle with it. It would really help you out, IMHO, if you listened to some good sound quality music with definite bass placement and integration and see which way works best.- fs??
I've heard that he's working for SVS now??- HDD Took A Crap......
Hmmm.....yeah, I'll check that out tonight.- HDD Took A Crap......
Absolutely, anytime. Just let me know when you're ready to lose What's your username on there?- fs??
Enclosure and enviornment are far more important. Along that line, driver Q is better indicator than Fs. Overdamped speakers (low Q) will tend to have less low end capabilities than a higher Q sub (hence the reason low Q subs are typically best suited for ported enclosures). Here are a few quotes from Stephen Ponte, formerly of TC sounds: "Fs is NOT a huge determiner of LFE. Qt is. The higher the Q, the lower the woofer will play - always. The more moving mass, the lower the driver will play (relative to Q). Less BL product (relative to Q). Etc etc etc. " "Cms, or compliance usually has VERY little to do with how low a speaker will play. Now, keep in mind, that the lower the Fs of a driver is, the lower the Q is - and remember, a high Q always plays lower. So, a low resonance speaker isn't always good" (note here; the 12" Rl-p's have lower Fs', but they also have a lower Q than the 15's). And here's my favorite one: "There is NO way to look at driver specs, to know how low a driver will play. You can get a good idea by looking at the Q. But, the BIGGEST factor of LFE, is environment. "- HDD Took A Crap......
Well, the other day my HDD took a crap on me. Here's the story; I was home trying to play some Yahoo! Pool (I'm addicted to it), and then my PC started doing this thing where everytime I tried to access the 'net (via either IE or Mozilla), it would automatically reboot my PC and/or freeze up. Well, I finally got tired of dicking with it one time when it froze up, so I went to shut it off at the power strip. Only, when I went to shut it off, my hand slipped and I shut it off/on/off really fast (turned it back on before it had completely powered down, then shut it off before it completely powered back up). And now when I try to use that harddrive, the PC will physically recognize it's there in the hardware list on the initial boot up screen, but is unable to read from or write to the drive (tells me something like "unable to locate drive C:, or unable to write to disk). So, my only thought is that with the quick power off/on/off, the arms inside the HDD got off track. That sound like a reasonable assumption? Any way to fix that myself, or atleast determine if that is/isn't the problem? I'm not looking to fix it permanently as I went out and bought another HDD to get my PC up and running again. Mainly just want it working long enough that I can transfer the pictures and a program or two to the new HDD. I'm really trying to avoid paying someone else to do it as 1) I'm cheap and don't want to pay them, and 2) there's personal info on it that I prefer someone else not have access to. Thanks!!- Project Kill Them All
From Rick at Raammat: www.raamaudio.com Not yet. Haven't officially put them on the market. But, decision has been made; they gotta go. Yeah, me neither :( Honestly, I'll love no other speaker like I loved my horns. But, maybe in the future I'll be able to pick up some horns again. Gives me something to look forward too. Plus, this "budget" setup I have in the works now should still sound superb. So, all is not lost I guess- fs??
- Project Kill Them All
Thanks guys!! I plan on also starting a worklog when I start the speaker install. As you may or may not know; I had to ixnay the horn and 10" mid plans because, well....I'm broke, and need the money back in my pocketbook. But, don't fret. Again with the assistance of Dave (audiolife), I have a pretty trick and "old school" 3-way active frontstage planned. And as such, I'll probably wait and show pics of the finished work before I show the work-in-progess pics B) Should be pretty slick when we're all done. Shouldn't be. Only thing that could cause a problem would be the Ensolite. But, my door panels are deep enough that it shouldn't pose a problem at all.- Project Kill Them All
Thought "sound deadening pics" sounded a little boring.....so, I'll name this project Kill Them All (referring to resonances, vibrations and sound waves). I'm corny. I know, and I don't care. Anyways; part one of my four part sound deadening endeavor is finally complete, with a good amount of assistance from Dave (audiolife). Shot of the rear seats (well, where they should be) and rear floor. Mat used here was SecondSkin Damplifier (thanks Nick!!). Two layers everywhere: Here's a shot of the front floorboard. Mat used here was Raammat 60 v2. Again, 2 layers everywhere. But, since I overlaped like crazy up here there is really more like 3 layers: And, that's where I'm at so far. There is also 1 layer on the rear deck, one layer throughout the entire trunk, and 2-3 layers on the outter doorskin of the front doors. Part II, which I'm hoping will be done by the end of this weekend will consist of spreading 5ga of SecondSkin Spectrum everywhere throughout the entire vehicle; top to bottom and front to back. Started working on that tonight, got most of the rear floor area done. Part III will be installing atleast 100sqft of Ensolite closed cell foam. Plan on 2-3 layers on the floor, 1.5 layers on the roof and 2 or so layers in each door. Part IV will be all 4 door panels, rear doors and various panels as needed. This is the first time I've really went all out on deadening and did the entire car as it should be. So, I'm pretty stoked, excited and dare I say....proud. Unfortuntely, however, none of those emotions can trump my primary trait; procrastination.....otherwise I'd probably by done by now My main goal here is to decrease road noise as absolutely much as possible, and to kill as much panel resonances as possible. So, more pics as more work gets accomplished. We'll see how the end result turns out- fs??
Fs = [6.28(Cms * Md)^1/2]^-1 You can use Mms in that equation for a very close approximation. [Md includes mass of the air] I ran through the calculations myself. All of them seem spot on. Was within +/- .25hz of each one....the difference is due to using Mms rather than Md I presume.- What mono amps do you have?
In the original plan, there was supposed to be a 2000w RMS monoblock amp aswell (can't recall the name off hand). But, there was some sort of delay that did not allow him to debute the amp with the others as planned.- Welcome to the IHoP
Fish sticks! Blaaahhh...... Not a big fish man myself.- Welcome to the IHoP
I just read the whole thing. I now wish that I hadnt. Yeah....quite the IQ killer. However, apparently audioholic can tell me what I am thinking. Must be nice to be able to read minds. Wish he'd tell me what I'm having for dinner, because I can't decide- Welcome to the IHoP
Suuuurrrrrreeeee Glad to see you back in action though- Welcome to the IHoP
that sucks man what pics have you been posting? He was female doging and whining about how he thought that it was aimed at him, when I directly said "this isn't aimed towards anybody, just thought it was funny"- Welcome to the IHoP
Oh well, now that's just pucking great. I just had a 5 paragraph response typed up to a PM from mr. Audioholic for that pic 2nd pic I posted in the RE vs. Alpine thread, and the board freaking freezes on me. Stupid chit.- Welcome to the IHoP

You know, I kept getting into arguments with this one dillhole over on carstereo.com (yes, I try to be nice and help out over there to dispell the myths that are still circulating around at that forum). I really can't stand the kid, especially since he tried to lie to us and tell us he has worked for Lightening Audio's tech support for 10 years, when he's only 17yrs old. Then, today for some reason I decided to look at his profile page over there......and check out the name of his sounddomain page: http://www.carstereo.com/forum/profile.cfm?userid=21818 Here is his AIM from ECA: http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/member.php?...fo&userid=62421 Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha That explains why I can't stand the kid He hath resurfaced.....- Welcome to the IHoP
