I have a build log over at CA.com as well but I'm really getting tired of the childish behavior of the mods around there (I got banned for "joining in '08" along with a bunch of other people) so I decided to come over here to SSA and show you guys what I've been up to the past couple months. At the time of this writing, my setup consists of the following: 2 15" Fi Q's (DVC 1ohm, wired to total load of 1 ohm) AQ2200D amp 7cuft ported box tuned @ 32Hz - designed by Chris at Fisher Customs, built by me Infinity 475a Reference amp running highs (soon-to-be IDCTX65CS comps, I just need to build the door pods for them. Running some Kenwoods up front for now) All KnuKonceptz 1/0ga wiring, Big3 done in 1/0ga Optima RedTop battery 100sqft Damplifier Pro - entire trunk, and two front doors (roof soon to come ) Rear deck port OK well I hope you like it if you have any questions or advice then shoot! Do you think the Q is going to "pound harder" though? Maybe a BTL? Get the Q. You will not be disappointed. I am running two 15's off of 2200W and it's painfully loud

To the OP - I'm running two 15" Qs ported and they get very loud... my box is 7cuft tuned to 32Hz. Have Chris at Fisher Customs sketch you up a box design for $25

Why don't you invest in something like a single 12" BTL then?

Skip the fabric store and try YourAutoTrim.com. Check into their Ozite Superflex unbacked carpet (http://www.yourautotrim.com/80wideozite.html). It comes in a variety of colors, has a short nap to it kinda like a paint roller, and is VERY easy to work with. I ordered two tones of carpet, bought a can of 3M Super 77 spray adhesive and you can check out the results below. Hope that helps

Hmm well when I was 16 I bought my first Caddy, and my friends at the time knew about 4 people named Matt so they started calling me "Matt, the one with the Cadillac" which evolved into them just calling me Cadillac Matt. It's stuck ever since. I also know a Cadillac Joe :fyi:

Yes 93-96 are the same body style. The steel wall has a small triangular opening on the bottom-middle, that's about the only place for the bass to come in (and when your box covers most of the hole then you see my problem lol. I think the reason that my old subs sounded better in the cabin was because of the box's small size, allowed plenty of bass to flow back around it.

Definitely not wired out of phase. Ooook. So I checked my LPF on the amp, and I had it set in the middle (20-200Hz range, so it was actually set at 110Hz). I figured this was my problem, and set it down to about 60Hz... and the bass lost most of the higher notes, lost any sort of blending with the speakers (it sounded exactly like two speakers were wailing in the trunk... horrible) and to kick it off the bass output was not even increased in the lower end, and the voltage drops were much bigger. I was really at a loss for words. So I set it back to about 90Hz and voila it's back to the way it was. Still sounds to me like the bass is getting "stuck" because at higher volumes I hear a sickening rattle noise that I believe is actually the trunk lid and not the subs (it overpowers the bass) so I need to do a little more investigating I suppose. I ordered some more cable today for the Big 3 and some 12ga speaker wire from KnuKonceptz so I will get that done ASAP... Electrical seems to be OK, at full tilt it drops to about 13.0-13.1 but the higher I set the LPF the lower the voltage drop is (but I don't seem to lose any output... go figure). Also, the amp rarely gets hot but the dust caps on the subs get a little warm (not very much so but slightly warm) is this normal as well? I don't smell anything burning or anything like that. I've heard that front firing technically yields a higher SPL reading, but "seems" less loud. Yeah with the windows up the bass REALLY sucks. I never play the system at any volume with the windows up. If it's cold outside I just turn up the heater and crack them halfway lol Seats don't come down... I have a small triangular cutout behind my armrest and a couple of empty 6x9 holes to let the bass in... why I think that's the problem. People with BMWs I hear have the same problem (trunks are completely sealed from the cabin) and end up porting the rear deck to remedy it... I don't see what this can really hurt anyways. Something like this:

Yeah I was a little unsure what to set the subsonic at... should I play a real low test tone and turn it down until it's right, I mean, is there a correct way to do this or just a general setting I should use (i.e. a certain # of Hz below your tuning freq).

1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville I thought about this option too but in all of the experiences I've had it's actually made the bass less intense (more mechanical noise and less actual bass is what I'm trying to say) but I need to put handles or something on the box first, lol (it weighs about 130lbs with woofers inside).

On HU or amp? It makes it **MUCH** louder when I adjust ANY of the settings (be it EQ, Loudness, SLA) but wouldn't this defeat the purpose of setting gains in the first place? I don't want to blow these things up man And besides the louder it gets the more sheet metal I hear rattling and less actual bass in the cabin... Did not check with DMM but I can do that... the subs are 1 ohm DVC, and their voice coils are wired in series for a 2 ohm load per sub. The subs are then wired in parallel to the AQ2200D for a final 1 ohm load. Well, it's actually 18ga (waits for a slap) but I used the wiring speaker calculator on the BCAE website and it seems to be working fine... the distance is so short I don't think it's hurting anything (correct me if I'm wrong, lol!) I've experimented with moving the box all the way back, and the bass response starts to get worse (like all of the energy is focused into the hapless sheet metal on the trunk lid, lol). I set my gains with a DMM originally, with everything set flat on the HU using a 50Hz test tone @ 0dB. I plugged the speakers back in and the bass was actually worse than my Xplods . So I boosted a loudness curve slightly in the meantime and it helped out a bunch... sooooooo I'm a little skeptical of the DMM method. The crossover on the amp is set at around 85Hz, subsonic at 30Hz (go lower maybe?), bass boost OFF, gain about halfway (set with DMM). On the HU the Bass Boost is OFF, Loudness is OFF, Sound Retriever is set at "1" out of "0-2" (some sort of EQ booster that boosts the highs and lows), Sub LPF set to 80Hz, SLA set to 0.

So I got my 2 Q 15's installed in the box (7cuft @ 32Hz), running off an AQ2200D, and installed my 36sqft of Damplifier Pro (great stuff FYI) but I seem to be having a problem getting the bass into the cabin. I knew that I'd probably run into this problem with such a big box so I'm weighing my options now. The box is rear facing, and when I pull it within about 6"-8" from the back of the car the bass seems to be the "best", but I still have limited clearance around the top and sides of the box. The bass sounds extremely peaky at higher frequencies (60-80Hz) and I believe this is because the trunk is actually functioning something like a double vented bandpass and blocking most of the lower frequencies from passing through. The only openings into the cabin are a small triangle section in the middle of the back seat, and the two holes where the 6x9s used to be. I am thinking of cutting a hole in the rear deck to port the trunk, something like 6" x 24". I removed my 6x9's (the compression from the bass blew one of them so I need to come up with a different solution there anyways). Do you think this would have a better effect on the bass, giving it a large area to come through? Below are some pics of the temporary trunk setup (until I order my carpet and the rest of the Damplifier to make it purdy ) Thanks! Hmm... on the card I got with my Qs it says something about "Fi X" subs, a "low powered alternative to the larger Fi subs." Is this the new line?

Jah man I will let you know when I get everything kosher. I should be installing the Damplifier Pro this weekend and the amp is coming tomorrow, all I need to do is the Big 3 and order my Mechman alternator next paycheck.
