  1. What does sounding better to you mean?
  2. Gain position on the amp is irrelevant as long as you're out of the clipping threshold and you don't have inductive noise issues. What higher voltage preouts gets you is a higher noise floor, so it might help if you're getting noise in your interconnects, but if you don't have noise there to begin with it's getting you nothing.
  3. What does he want out of his setup? Since you made no mention of a front stage, is he just looking for bass with rap music or something more demanding?
  4. High voltage outputs are overrated. Since you're concerned about the Ipod connection, I'd buy based on that...how well/easy it is to use, etc.

They haven't started around here yet. When gas gets to $5/gal I'm sure people will be thinking differently If it gets to 5 bucks a gallon there will be riots in the street. I'm confused why big companies that employee trucking and have waste fry oil i.e. Mcdonalds and the likes don't just have their trucks run on bio deisel, or at least suplement. I have seen rigs as cheep as 500 bucks for a prefab set up. Ah well. I doubt it. Think frog in a boiling pot...I guess I misstated that, the mainstream won't think differently, it'll just become economical to experiment more with homemade fuel.

Bah, who needs horsepower? I could go every place that would be able to go in a diesel 'Mog, with better fuel economy Just a lot slower I does! Plus your mog is not as purdy as Old Blue and the price of diesel SUCKS!!! Price of biodiesel is a lot better than gas
  8. It's a slightly better speaker
  9. You don't need anywhere near that power.
  10. Impedance matching, volume control, and input switching. For people who either want everything in one box, or want to save money versus a separates system. Personally, I wouldn't get the Prologue 2...it's a stereo integrated amp, not really what you're looking for if you're going with a multichannel setup. It would be a lot easier going with a multichannel power amplifier and a 5.1 preamp/processor, from Outlaw Audio or Rotel or others. Tubes and multichannel won't be cheap, any way you go...

That's a lot of power to be setting things up without an oscilloscope...

Tell them to get on the net and do some research. If they wanted something that was cheaper to maintain, they never would have purchased a Volvo in the first place. Of course these vehicles are going to be more expensive than their American or Japanese counterparts. There aren't as many of them on the road. They should know this as it's just common sense. You will be surprised however, that the German cars, at least in my research, are not far off in maintenance costs. Of course I may just be used to paying higher prices for parts. You wouldn't think a Cobra is much different from a regular Mustang, but when you mention the Cobra part, you can automatically add a hundred for the parts. I don't think the cost of the parts themselves is what's the killer part, it's the fact that car has next to no reliability, ironically it's a turbo but the engine is the only thing in it that works without a problem ...I'm not sure if it's due to the redesigns they've had lately after Ford bought them, but they're a far cry from the old, boxy ones. The high cost of parts would be acceptable if something didn't need fixing every few months or so.
  14. SQ

But take what happened to Dave last weekend. Staging cues are relatively absolute, but so much is decided by timbre, tonality, ambience...things that are starting to get into the murky realm of the subjective. One person might like more of a midrange presence than someone else...or in Dave's case, subbass. I guess that's where having multiple shows and multiple judges comes in, so in theory all their differing viewpoints get averaged at the end of the season.

Oh well, time to be productive I guess...buy some books that I need, get signed up for a summer class...a nap will be on the menu, I'm sure...

As long as you're not getting into the clipping region of the amp or have a lot of inducted noise, the actual position of the gain knob is meaningless as long as you have the correct amount of power.

Maybe my folks will listen if I recommend a BMW wagon to replace the POS Volvo that they've been trying to find a way to get rid of They're in the trap of "it's a BMW, so it must be expensive" thinking, when I know they've dumped more money in that V70 than a 330i would cost to keep running well...and it was by no means a deal to buy in the first place.
  19. SQ

SQ = SQ competition = IMHO.
  20. Fuse anytime the wire has a chance of coming in contact with grounded metal through wear...for example, if you have a connection through the firewall that's grommeted or passes through a rubber boot, you still need to fuse it as there's a potential there of the power wire shorting out on the chassis. I'd also put a fuse anytime you drop in wire gauge - so used a fused distribution block at the amps. As for the fuse sizing, you want it under the wire's rated ampacity, that is the amount of current it can handle for that certain length and gauge. Do a Google search for this.
  21. Crunch is a horrible amp. If you're looking for a very compact yet quality amp, I'd look into trying to find a used Alpine PDX.

Never been there, no desire to go there either.
  23. I wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot pole.
  24. I only heard the Atlas ported rather high, so I can't really comment on its SQ, but I heard the Avalanche 12's sealed and I was very impressed. I agree with Brian, they're very nice drivers. The pair of 12's I heard could play the 16Hz organ tone on John Williams' score to Superman with confidence... The W6v2 is far from BS, it's actually a pretty fine driver for SQ when properly installed
