Welcome to the IHoP
If you end up with anything with a fairly high Qts, let me know, I've been itching to do an OB project Not a fricking clue on the specs, but I can ship you some if your interested for damn cheap. If you could shoot me some pictures of the 6's or 8's after you get them, I think I'd be interested Bound to be something in that lot that's good OB...

15's for extended cab truck, SSA, eD, Mach5, AA?
I've heard a lot of good things about the eD subwoofers however. Was it just a bad owner but they actually make good products? For a long time they didn't "make" anything...they used Resonance, TC Sounds, Image Dynamics, and Destijl for their build work...so not terrible engineering, nothing spectacular (my five-year old e12a.22 is still working like new with no problems). Of course, if you go by what they tell you they've always made everything in Iowa I haven't kept up with them in the past couple years so who knows, they could be molding cow turds into soft parts by now... However, with the attitude I've got from them, I wouldn't buy again from them...regardless of what the products might do. Not just Ben, either...some of his newer cronies were a real joy to deal with the last time I bothered to log into that forum.

I NEED MAJOR HELP
It's just that most of us have grown out of that phase, or never were in it to begin with

need opinion on setting gain
how could it be wrong??? explain.... Is the DMM telling you how much power you have at the moment? Is the DMM telling you what the waveform looks like, whether or not it's clipped, what your actual impedance is at that frequency...etc All of those are things that ideally you should know, and the DMM, while a great piece of test equipment, is not going to tell you.

Is a single ICON 12 ported to the optimal specs loud?

2way & 3way
How do you know?
-
2way & 3way
2-way: Midbass & tweeter, or HF driver 3-way: Midbass, dedicated midrange, tweet Basically, you need an amplifier channel for each driver. So you'd need a 4-channel or two 2-channels to run a 2-way set active, or six channels of amplification to run a 3-way set active.

Time for a change
Technical difficulties aside, do you really hate your sense of hearing that much that you'd subject it to that? I can think of cheaper ways of going deaf...

Oh, by the way, Sean's proving what little of a point you had to begin with wrong as we speak in that linked thread.

Time for a change
If I remember correctly, I'm just echoing what you said in the first post of this thread, so obviously someone's bringing it up again About the only thing that annoys me more than someone making a thread like this is someone making a thread like this that won't back up what's being asserted.

So JL is a rich boy toy but Audison and high-end Focal aren't? Check the price on a Utopia lately?

Yes, you can have high SPL in the very literal sense of the term and still have very realistic SQ. This is a goal I'm going for...I like when this happens. But what happens is people take "SPL" to mean lots of subwoofers and lots of subbass - which is not SQ. As soon as you can easily localize the subbass, poof, SQ has now gone out the window.

I'm just curious, have you heard any SQ competition vehicles or maybe a demo room at a high-end audio store? You're free to believe whatever you want, but I'm just curious what your reference is.

Still doesn't make it "SQ"... See, but that's the wrong approach to take if you're truly into that. I totally agree with Dave Brooks in the "stupid loud" thing - but that takes a front stage that can play those high volumes realistically, without distorting or losing linearity...and that's a lot harder to do than putting some subs in the back and sending them kW's. If you're into a flat response at earsplitting volumes, the way to go about it is to work on the front stage first, then worry about blending the subbass to that. Don't get me wrong, I like things loud - hell, otherwise I wouldn't be building BIB's or wanting to get Altecs or other really high-efficiency designs. But when it comes to the subbass, it has to concede to the mains, always, if you want a flat response or something approaching it.
