Keep in mind they have to put a warranty on this beast as well. I don't want to see a forced induction Corvette, I'd much rather see a N/A engine kept. Have you ever driven a supercharged car?? And I don't mean one of those non-GNX GM things with the 3.8 either. A real supercharged V8 is a helluvalotoffun ohhhhh so it's like that now huh? *giggle* I was waiting for that. Almost as blatant as Eh-Ron with his "hummy and shitty low-fidelity tube amps" comment. Oh, I notice. But I will not give in to temptation.
  2. It makes a lot of sense if you're looking at the objective parts Sean is thinking of
  3. Ugh... I prefer to think of it as listening to music, rather than "bumping"...

I don't know how much GM is actually spending on these $100k+ cars, but somehow I don't think they're going to stave off the impending implosion that's coming

I do. Not that I even have a landline to tap, and a cell can be listened to by any goon with a scanner, but it's the principle of the thing. If they want to tap someone's lines, let them get probable cause like they're supposed to, and go through the legal channels.
  6. x2. Is all you're doing tonight adding generic "me too" replies? You might want to look at the glaring contradiction you made with yourself in the other thread... Look here: http://www.t-linespeakers.org http://www.quarter-wave.com There's a project with a Shiva on the first site that could be scaled up to a Havoc, would require a massive Sonotube, though.
  7. I'd go sealed...or put it in a quarter-wave pipe.
  8. Depends on how picky you are...everybody's preferences for "daily" use vary so it depends on what you like to listen to, it's really useless as a term to try to describe sound...

I don't know what "decent" SPL is to you...or "low" for that matter. You aren't going to touch the low end extension of a sealed enclosure very easily in a trunk with anything else... IMO, that's really sealed, but obviously it's not doing something for you...

15" quarter-wave pipes are big, if you're going for linearity. Unless you have a heavily folded/stuffed line. That's a mass-loaded TL for an 18"...just to give you an idea... Even then, a TL would not be my choice for output.

There's way, way too much gain in the preamp stage, I noticed the same problem when I auditioned the TU-300C. IMO, 12AX7's have no place in hi-fi equipment...six volt tubes like the 6DJ8 or 6922 are vastly better to use. There are tubes out there like the GE 5751 that have less gain than a 12AX7, that might reduce the problem but I can't say for sure as I didn't have any on hand to try...places like the Tube Store and Tubedepot.com sell them, IIRC...

In a few weeks most likely, especially after I let my folks know that I was selling the SMG's, they were all pissed off because they liked the sound so much...
  13. JimJ replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
I really have no hurry to get these sold, I don't urgently need the money for anything, but dammit, you cut into my lunch time and I start getting angry.
  14. JimJ replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
OK, this guy who wants to buy the SMG's is starting to piss me off...I know he's got an hour drive or so from where he's coming from, but it's been two and a half hours without a phone call...

Nah, McCain will win the election, and I'll be moving to Canada.
  16. You can, my point was that that's not really the best thing to do.
  17. The BL is really meant to be put in a ported enclosure, and for that I wouldn't use a pre-fab. Sealed, it's a little different, though still not ideal...
  18. Just being loud? I don't think you'll really notice the massive problems they're going to cause in terms of a coherent sound stage or anything like that.
  19. I would steer far away from those.

The one down by the river? Sometimes it's down by the river...not at the moment though.

Van hasn't burned down yet. w00t.

I got magic smoke to escape from the PG 500.2, but for some reason it didn't die...yet. Went to check into the local SKYWARN net on 2 meters, I hear this crackling behind me...look at the amps and see there's a bit of smoke coming out of the 500.2. It wasn't turned on at the time. After initially thinking I've toasted it or it's still on fire, I turn the head unit on and both amps come on, I get sound...very strange. It still smells a little smoky, but the heatsink feels cool. I think the smell is just residual from whatever smoke might still be in there...think what happened was I didn't have the shield of the coax cable on the radio I was using connected, the radio probably had a crazy-high VSWR but it rolled back power to protect itself, the amp went apeshit with the high RF content, it usually has the entire van to act as a Faraday cage for it. So those of you that think SQ people can't get smoke to come out of amps, you're sadly mistaken...we just come up with unique ways to do it
  23. just to start off once i get an idea of companies, then i will comp. and con. products Useless just to compare companies. Look at Fi, for example. There's woofers I can't stand and would never own (BTL, BL) and woofers that I probably would (IB ones, SSD's, etc...) Same with JL. While I love the W6v2, I wouldn't look at the W3's or W1's or even the W7's for that matter.
  24. Does it? If it's measuring pressure, then where does the voltage reading come into play, or how does it need to? I'm still shaking my head at the theory behind this, if any...just because it's comparable to a TL for certain readings really means squat, LORAN-C was comparable to GPS in accuracy if you were comparing two known coordinate points, but as soon as you went to a random point on a map the accuracy went out the window. Repeatable accuracy with new values is what's important here, and I'm not getting how they're coming up with a number. These questions aren't directed at you, more in general...until I read otherwise this one is going in the file with power cords that improve the sound stage and supports that get the interconnects off the floor.

I like the way the new NIN is being distributed
