    Well played, sir.

My profile is rated 3/5? I pity the fools that voted...

I like a program called Exact Audio Copy...it rips it to .WAV first and then converts it to FLAC. There are others, though. People torrent FLAC albums just as they do MP3 ones, as well...

Wasting posts? How are they wasted

All you'd need is a RAID controller and you'd be set... My server takes IDE drives, don't know why Dell didn't go with SATA...

Saw the Sonic Impact T amp and had to ask, I just don't see myself being satisfied on 6 watts (8ohm) but then again I've never done a BIB If you're ever in this neck of the woods I'd gladly give you a demo of what 8 watts to properly-chosen speakers sounds like I still love the way my amps sounded on the Altec horns, 113dB/W will do that though...wouldn't work in the apartment

*looks both ways* *mutters* Almost all my music still is. All of your speakers deserve better...
  8. There used to be some good stories about Value Electronics-built amps, the Avionixx ones (like the 800.2 I used to have) had a habit of their Tripath circuitry coming apart on its own That was during the pre-ICIX days...
  9. I personally would avoid it, but YMMV...

Hell, when I was a freshman all the music on my computer were MP3s anyway

When I was in the dorms, it was about sounding decent at high volumes, and making sure all the equipment was party-proof. So the NAD and JBL Studio gear was perfect...didn't matter it wasn't the last word in accuracy, because you aren't getting perfect staging in a dorm to begin with I saved the good stuff until I moved into the apartment...and now I'm running into the limitations apartment living has.

6 watts efficient? FR125's wouldn't be too great with that power. They'd probably still sound great, but they're meant to be used with a bit more oomph to really fill a room. The 4.5" versions of the drivers I have, the Fostex Sigmas, on the other hand, would be perfect...

They're efficient as hell...matched with the right speaker, you only need a couple watts. Scott used a pretty inefficient driver though. Hence the reason I see some tube amps matched up with them? Yep. Going without a crossover has a lot of benefits...no power wasted in heating up parts, no funky impedance swings...
  15. Really good point here - the BIB is a full range (or semi-full range with a supertweet) design, with no crossovers at all. It's not going to measure particularly well, especially when you compare it to a two or three-way design with computer-optimized crossovers like what Zaph builds. They're two totally different approaches, made with different goals in mind. But something that looks hideous on paper doesn't always perform that way in real life
  16. If you really want the full BIB education, there's an excellent but long thread on DIYAudio - when I say long, you could probably get through Milton's Paradise Lost in less time than it would take you to read that thread. But there's a wealth of information there. They work pretty much the same as any tuned quarter-wave pipe does, http://quarter-wave.com/ has a bunch of theory on that. So does DIYAudio, if you do a quick search. CSS FR125's were/are pretty reasonable in price...

That's not what's printed on my license... They're efficient as hell...matched with the right speaker, you only need a couple watts. Scott used a pretty inefficient driver though.
  19. He was here, we punted him elsewhere though...I think he ended up on FloridaSPL or one of those other forums I avoid like the plague.

  21. Sounds like the oompa loompas dropped the ball on that one
