Efficiency is simple...the ratio of the power the amp takes vs. the undistorted output power of the amp. It's also relatively unimportant in daily applications. Amps don't "have bass", as long as the THD is in line with amps of similiar topology, you're fine...

Do you absolutely need a receiver? Could you live without a tuner? Part of your problem is looking at stuff that's sold in Best Buy, you're not going to find deals that way, on BPC (Black Plastic Crap)

What crossovers you'll need depends on what kind of setup you end up with. The higher-end head units usually have some sort of active crossovers onboard, but they may or may not be flexible enough for your install. There's a couple good brands of outboard crossovers, Audiocontrol comes to mind.

No I think it is cabinet-less True, the speakers are sitting on my kitchen table, just nothing to put them in. And with 2mm of Xmax and a 0.2 Qts, they don't do squat in open baffle.
