It's very hard to find a quality 18" driver that's made for SQ...especially one that's optimized for under a kW. AA is about it...

No, although that's on my list of things to do when I get the cash to do it...probably just deaden the doors. The window cranks vibrate at around 100-120Hz...gets annoying sometimes.

For most solid state amps, the THD+N values are going to be well under 1%...and of course, what you actually hear is dependent on frequency. You can hear 3% THD much easier at 1 KHz than at 50Hz.
20 cubes? Well...I'm not walling it off, I want to have some cargo space left over I was thinking something along the lines of dual 18" Avalanche's (the old kind, if I could find them) in a 27-30Hz ported setup...I've got four feet between the wheelwells, so the box could take up that and however deep in it needs to go. I want something that will sound excellent at low volumes and put up some decent numbers at higher ones...but this won't be a dedicated comp setup. Musicality comes first. Basically I'm tired of opening up the back and seeing only a 1.5 cube box and a single 12" in there, I know I could do so much more with the space...
Of course...always need to have something in the works I'm thinking about building the "just for the hell of it" system out in the van. Big moofers + big enclosure = big fun.
just checked out the Ascendant Audio site...still have the old drivers up, heh...I wonder if they have any still left :/ I'm playing with some crazy ideas in my head, once I get the cash to do them...which'll be in about two or three months.
It is just that cheap. Like within 40 bucks. Will the new RL-i's truly have comparable output potential?
Hey... I might have found an 8W7 that could fit in my budget...however, I've got a question. Do JL's recommended enclosures work well at home? I've heard they're optimized for in-vehicle cabin gain. If so, does anyone have recommendations for enclosures (sealed or bass reflex) for this little beast? Thanks in advance.
