MECA has two comps a year in Hendersonville, which is a good six hour drive from me...there's also a MECA show in WV that I can make when I'm up at school, but c'mon...there needs to be more than one show a year I can make it to

Audioholics is a good source of info... cable snake oil salesmen make me giggle. although i've got a roll of Canare 4S11 twisted-pair speaker cable for my new system...but i know it doesn't make it sound better, honest! besides, i got a very good deal on it

I believe I've settled down for the van install for a while...but I'm starting to lose it in the house... when Kent's cabs arrive and are loaded with drivers, I'm going to have four pairs of speakers to choose from, three of which don't have an amp dedicated to them i need more rooms...

I guess I'm being really optmistic here, but are there any pieces of software (free, would be nice ) that accurately model horn-loaded speakers in room? I'm trying to model efficiency gains from different types of enclosures, and most modeling software comes painfully short... All the research I've done on horns doesn't give actual numbers for efficiency gains; of course, most of that is room/placement dependent, but some general guidelines would be nice to go on...

You're going to blow those brands out of the water, for the money. It's probably in the league of Paradigm, JM Labs, Tannoy, Ascend Acoustics, Axiom Audio, etc...the lower-high-end that inhabits the $750 to $1000 range like you said.
