70's HT Amp Porn
My '75 vintage Kenwood KT-5500 tuner has the same sort of string arrangement for the dial. And real analog VU meters...yum. You can't kill those brutes.

Kent still scares me. He's going to Jamaica, I'm on a plane Monday morning bound for NYC. I'd take the Caribbean anyday

Welcome to the IHoP
There aren't that many drivers to choose from, though. Actually...you're right, that would make it a whole lot easier to set up.

It's going to be interesting...

Welcome to the IHoP
Probably. It was for sale a few months ago, but nobody in their right mind would buy it for daily use. It's a true SPL sub, good for nothing else.

Welcome to the IHoP
I'm sure it's not going to be used for the trials, but why is it there...

Welcome to the IHoP
That's because there was only one built. It's a BL freak of a moofer, gets crazy loud for one note but that's all it'll play.

http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php...5613#post145613 scroll up a little. All current production-run drivers? That looks curiously like a eD-built 12q lurking there, second from left chillin' between the Orion and the Kicker

Welcome to the IHoP
there are no good meets close to me, and I'm debating whether or not to drive the 5 hours to DC in a few weeks. I might be out of town somewhere else anyway, so I probably won't make it even if I wanted to.

I'd love to see the face of an audiophool as you try to scratch a $3k table with a cartridge worth a third of that...

Supa - nice amps. Except, for all that money you're paying, there's a solid state rectifier? Huzza? For $57k, I expect it to be all-tube. That's cheap compared to the WAVAC monoblocks that Stereophile reviewed a while back - $350,000 for the pair. They were around 12wpc, though, and used different tubes The designer would come to your house and install them as part of the purchase price. That's probably the most expensive 300b I've seen. That's easily a thousand dollars in tubes alone - I know Western Electric 300b's sell for around 700 a matched pair, and the input tubes are probably around 300 or 400 a pair. Then again, I don't like the sound of 300b's - too sloppy. I like 2A3's better...which is why I went with them for my next amp

The next person who says that distortion will kill speakers on CA.com is getting e-slapped. Hard. Not having a back seat comes in handy, too Starsky, is that you?

My dad will never let me forget the fact that the first car he bought on his own was a '67 green Mustang fastback he bought in DC when he was there on co-op...how I'd love to buy the same car when I graduate, and not let him drive it

The Stereo Integrity Cobra.
With the exception of four foot line arrays, those are probably some of the most massive tweets I've seen.

Welcome to the IHoP
Well, for my friend's install, I had him buy the larger one because he had a very low powered amp - so I went larger on the enclosure size to compensate. Increasing enclosure volume will actually tighten up transient response and group delay, as long as it's not critically overdamped...just the overall output goes down.

Welcome to the IHoP
Why not buy the larger one and fill the "extra" space with wood blocks?

Welcome to the IHoP
I installed a buddy's single Type R 12" in one not too long ago. Was very decently built for a pre-fab...and a local shop around here used to sell them. I would steer clear of their ported offerings, but sealed is fine.

What's the mounting size you need?

SubZone boxes would be my choice if you're looking for a good prefab.

Welcome to the IHoP
The only sub I'm not using at the time is the TC9 15", which is just chilling in the corner and looking pretty. The Shiva is currently serving HT duty, and the '12a is still alive and kicking. I've just got so much stuff floating out there now - the amp, the cabinets, the speakers...July/August is going to be like Christmas around here.
