Sprint is offering some hellaciously good deals right now, I think I might pick up one of those LG phones...the POS Nokia has seen better days, with a cracked LCD and all It's had a hard life the past four years.

I've tried to follow that, being around people who are smarter than me constantly - some of the guys in the local ham club are serious gearheads who'll draw out the workings of some pretty heady stuff on a napkin while having a biscuit and coffee, and I'll just sit there and go into sponge-mode and try to internalize as much as I can. That's how I got my background in tube gear...I went from going "Hey, that looks cool" to reading post after post of people who are a heck of a lot smarter than I am over on DIYAudio... I've always thought that it's better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt

I love blockquotes He says a lot's been replaced in the last 1000mi, runs smooth, but is asking $1850 Which seems really steep for a Honda built in 1973, no matter what the condition is...I've got $900 free and clear right now, $1200 seems like a doable offer in a couple weeks.

Hmm, got another hit on my CL WTB ad, '73 CB500 in supposedly excellent running condition, little low on mileage but we'll see... Now just how much to lowball
  5. The new SI Mag sounds like it'd be perfect for what you're looking for. Relatively shallow mounting depth, under $300, put it in a sealed enclosure and it'll do all you ask, without the need for a 200A alternator

Eh, thought USA's coverage of the Olympic Trials was going to be better. I guess my ex didn't make the finals in the 200 fly...
  8. Eh, more drivers doesn't always make things better I'd echo the sentiment in this thread and highly recommend starting out with a 2-way design for your first build. Jumping into a 3-way build with no prior experience is a good way to get overwhelmed with all that you're trying to do.
  9. Not bad, harder on the eyes than the Graphite, though.
  10. Zenon is South Korean...and I thought Morel was US & Israeli, depending on which part of the split you're talking about I believe Pioneer re-introduced its ODR line in the Japanese and European markets in the last couple years...if they're still available that would definitely be something that would be rare in the US Not exactly cheap, however, even if the dollar was stronger than what it is.

I'd skip the whole multiple-speakers thing unless you're actually going with 5.1 surround, which really isn't going to work well in a dorm. Unless you can convince the roommate to put speakers and wires running everywhere, and do it in a way that's not obtrusive. $800 for two speakers is a very workable budget, that would put you in the range of some nice used speakers or a DIY project using some very good components. For amplification, I'd prefer something older, late '70s integrated amps are a heck of a value for two channel use, especially if you don't listen to broadcast radio. I'm not a fan of modern receivers, by and large.

Eh, I don't know, it has its own appeal Massive bannings. Although to be honest, there are very few current audio-related posts I'll bother to read here lately.

It'd be helpful to know the T/S parameters of those speakers, however, so you could build cabinets that would work with them, instead of just randomly throwing them into whatever size box fits. Not at all.
  14. I don't see any reason to change what you have, for now...
  15. Baroque pipe organ music. I've been trying to find a recording from the Atlantic City, NJ Convention Center pipe organ...it's the largest in the US and is one of only two organs in the world that has a full 64' pipe for contra-bassoon with an 8Hz fundamental frequency. The other one is in Australia and I don't know if it's been recorded. But even the lowest stop on the 32' pipe of a typical organ has quite an effect if you have the undistorted output ability for it... John Williams' theme from Superman II ends with the sustained 16Hz tone. That's the end of St. Saens' Organ Symphony, you can clearly see the fundamental of the 32' pipe being played wide open. That's from a 64-footer, not sure which one or what the recording is, but you can see the 8Hz extension Telarc has a lot of stuff that's good, as well. Their mastering of the 1812 Overture is a nice 7Hz test...

Well, it depends on the situation. Snooty pricks can be useful from a connections standpoint, but incompetent morons can be exploited

I don't know if I could ever live in a state that elected Bush as governor, though...and didn't give the rest of the country a warning Same could be said for Florida, I don't see myself there anytime soon, either... I can't understand you...

I couldn't deal with the heat, or the people. Both would drive me insane eventually.

The pucking generator on the bus better work this year, no A/C all night and a diesel leak all over the place last year was no good... But OEMS can afford to buy brand-new Chargers, disaster relief budget, meh. Why an EMS agency needs police-issue Chargers I'm not exactly sure...

Chance of lightning Saturday night...and I'm going to be out in the middle of a field as we're putting up two 60 foot antenna masts... What's life without a little excitement

Audiogon still has its share of idiots, but I've found it's a lot less hassle And even the vintage stuff on there doesn't seem to be quite as much of a crapshoot.
